Ann Coulter thinks Mitt Romney was superior to Ronald Reagan, and she is embarrassing herself

Really Ann? You mean Romney's one debate bests Reagan's decades of advocacy for conservatism, his battles with the Republican establishment, and his building a conservative movement? Fact is Romney has done nothing for conservatism. I repeat, nothing. No leadership. No grassroots efforts. No major policy initiatives. Nothing. Reagan won two landslides. Romney won nothing. Cherry-picking facts Ann, in some strange cult-like obsession, fools no one. Same with your cheerleading for Chris Christie.

Ann does have a point that it’s easy to forget how difficult the media environment actually was in 1980. We think it’s bad now, and it certainly is, but . . .

There were plenty of things that Reagan trimmed on. Had he not done so, he would have probably come closer to having a Goldwater result. As it was, he trailed Carter (!) in the polls until the last week of the campaign. Hard as it may be to believe, looking back on it, at the time I was sweating bullets that Reagan wasn’t going to be able to pull it out.

There was no talk radio back then, Reagan had to help the Fairness Doctrine die first. And I think that we expect quite a lot more of our politicians now precisely because they do have talk radio behind them. But as we see from Benghazi - or rather, as we painfully realize that most of the country still does not see - it still isn’t enough. And I should know how difficult it is to persuade people of the obvious truth - there are things that I see as plain as day, that I can’t even get a consensus of FReepers to see.

Ann Coulter’s not a Conservative, she's a Republican...

No, she's a lawyer. She is trained to argue and advocate for the position that pays her bills.

We have no way of knowing whether she's really a conservative, or just found it financially profitable to argue the conservative position.

This article is an 18-wheeler load of red dog crap. Its author needs to put down her crack pipe. Romney presented no strong contrast to Obama- he couldn’t. He’d already governed in a way that Obama would have found acceptable. He couldn’t beat Obama over the head with Obamacare precisely because he had already launched Romneycare. He couldn’t beat Obama over the head with gay marriage because he already supported it himself. If the tent is so big it is full of Democrats/Progressives/Communists, then there is no point in having the tent at all- something faux-cons like Ann cannot or do not want to grasp.

Sure we do. Who does she choose to spend her personal time with, Bill Maher.

But we will never know, will we? I admit I am in deep grief. I see our country as over and there is no bringing it back. I've even been looking on the internet about moving to Mexico. Obama is out to destroy us. He's taken away health care and left us with nothing but premiums and now he wants to go after the savings we have left. If we remain here, we will be bankrupt.

This election taught me that when you factor in those riding in the wagon and loving what they're seeing and those who committed fraud, and those who turn a blind eye to it and those who feel they are too virtuous to ever vote for someone they consider less than perfect, our side will never win another presidential election and I'm not kidding.

Did Mark Levin or anyone on this message thread read Coulter’s article? I thought she made some excellent points and yes, when Reagan was governor of CA, he was not some fire breathing conservative.

I personally thought Romney was a pretty good candidate and would’ve made a great president. But, we will never know.

Mark favored Michele Bachmann and Rick Santorum. Mitt was his last choice - just as he was for most of us.

In a sense Coulter is right. Romney was not the problem.

Indeed he was a weaker candidate than we would have liked but overall it was the campaign “managers” who we’re the problem.

They never went after Obunghole the way that they needed to. He lost because he tried to be nice and play nice according to the media template. They feared being Painted as “mean” rather than attacking rightfully on the glaring failures of the administration.

There is a Republican, even a conservative, establishment. It is lead by elitists who, in truth, care nothing about Christianity or any religion. Instead, they care about global financial interests, big business, and the Treasury bond ponzi scheme not popping suddenly. They do not adovocate for government being held to is rightful amount of power and cost, per se, just a slower growth rate of government than their left-wing counterparts do.

Millions of people know that these elites do not represent the true interests of millions that are staunch conservatives but outside of elite power circles.

The elites, knowing the interests they represent, can't help the feeling of needing to tip-toe into a win as opposed to loudly espousing the Bible, the Constitution, free enterprise, etc., ergo they continually take positions that compromise with the radical left. They simply can't figure out a way to avoid the tacit admission of elitism that such compromise implies, and for good reason - there is none.

I don’t know what she’s smoking because that’s almost an insulting thing for her to say.

Ronald Reagan united the country and never shied away from conservative ideals. Romney ran a cautious campaign and shied away from everything other than reciting a GDP report and lost the Republicans seats in the Senate and the House.

To suggest that he did “better” than Reagan displays a lot of ignorance. She’s trying to save face because she smeared all of our conservative candidates in the primaries, but she’s only making herself look more foolish.

"Reagan won two landslides."

Careful, Reagan did not win two landslides. His first margin was 9% but his vote total was only 50.4%, because independent 3rd party candidate John Anderson took about 7% of the vote. Anderson's voters were definitely not liberals but they were not conservative and definitely voted against the status quo (Carter) but also against Reagan.

Reagan's second win, definitely a landslide, did not necessarily win over these independents. His margin came from "Reagan democrats," basically blue collar voters who liked him personally even though they disagreed with his policies.

Why do you all think that the King Obama empire spent so much money and time destroying Romney? They knew that Romney would change America around to what the Constitution was written for. They new that corruption would be halted and law and order restored. Most idiots in America were so blind that they did not really know this man. So smell the roses and enjoy communism under Hitler that we have now.

If you ask me, I think most of these so called conservative republicans have lost their edge. They are so defeated, they simply do not know what to do or say. They have gotten their butts handed to them two elections in a row, giving us candidates like McNutCase and McRomney. Neither has the conservative values to do what we need done. They all simply make me sick of the whole process. America as founded is finished. America has started down the back side of history. Sliding faster and faster into nothingness. Soon, all that will be known about America will be from old history books that liberals have hidden in the back of the shelves.
