The Competitive Enterprise Institute thinks so and [Tues]day filed suit to force the Treasury Department to release more than 7,300 emails believed to discuss a new carbon tax Obama administration allies in Congress are expected to propose in the upcoming lame duck session.
The CEI press release continues, the suit, filed in U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., seeks emails on official government accounts that CEI had requested under the Freedom of Information Act. Treasury has said nothing about this topic publicly, but the existence of such extensive email traffic likely reflects serious ongoing discussions between Treasury officials, outside pressure groups and other special interests groups.

The trillion dollar question
Since assuming office four years ago, President Obama has overseen annual trillion dollar deficits. Showing no signs of curbing record levels of federal spending, President Obama and the Democrat Party are searching for new sources of tax revenue to finance a bloated government.

They can propose a carbon tax, but certainly, Congress has the right (and presumably the will) to shoot it down, no?
Or, am I again over-estimating the common-sense and basic belief in conservative values of the Republican House majority?
We are hiring another 12,000 IRS agents to monitor OBCare, what’s another 15,000 or so to track carbon off-sets.
Nothing even Congress can stop this dictator from a carbon tax. So lets quit the BS.
I’ll agree to a carbon tax if we can trade the income, capital gains, corporate, and payroll taxes for it.
They’ll never get this garbage through the congress. They couldn’t even do it when they had the majority in both houses.
Perhaps EPA can simply dictate fees, penalties, contributions to remediation funds, license requirements, rent charges for air, and such totalling a trillion dollars a year.
On second thought, make that two trillion. And a half
It’s backwards. Only the house can originate a tax bill, and then they get to vote on whether it passes or not. The Executive branch cannot initiate a tax on it’s own.
It sure would be great if people demanded spending cuts. But there are enough old people on just THIS SITE that DEMAND their welfare (i.e., Social Security and Medicare) never be touched that we will NEVER be able to get control of spending.
So, for that, I support ANY TAX that hits the Middle Class (since that’s where the money is), because the alternative is to leave my kids with a BANKRUPT country.
A carbon tax is a good start, so is a value-added tax, and so is letting the Bush Tax Cuts expire.
When people ON THIS SITE are ready to give up their welfare, then I’ll be ready to discuss keeping taxes low.
...and no inheritance tax,too.
The Clinton BTU tax was blocked by one vote from a Democrat senator from Oklahoma...
The answer is yes, it will be imposed in 2 years.
“Its backwards. Only the house can originate a tax bill, and then they get to vote on whether it passes or not. The Executive branch cannot initiate a tax on its own.”
You should be aware that the intentions of the founders and the rule of the constitution are completely subverted now. Take for example something called Obama care. The Bill with all of its taxes was created in the Senate. The catch was that they took a spending bill from the house and erased all of the text it contained(It had nothing to do with Health care). Then they simply inserted Obama care onto it and voted for it. Then sent it to the house. See how meaningless that pesky Constitution is?
The bedwetting goobers at the GOP won’t do anything to stop it. They’ve got a plan, given to them by the DNC white boys and the liberal “media”, on how to get the “hispanic” vote and they won’t want to screw it up. LOL! Clowns.
“Perhaps EPA can simply dictate fees, penalties, contributions to remediation funds, license requirements, rent charges for air, and such totalling a trillion dollars a year.
On second thought, make that two trillion. And a half”
You are thinking small :(
Whats in store for climate change policy in Obamas second term?
Global Warming on Free Republic
That’s the reconciliation scam. The house still votes on it however, and at the time, the house was in the Democrats hands. Obama care still passed on a party line vote of xxx-0. Zero being republicans.
There is another interesting twist coming up. You can’t sue the FED to stop them from taxing. You can only sue after they tax you. Expect a flurry of lawsuits when the first Obama care penalty kicks in — which has already been determined to be a tax.
It is not the same however. Because if the constitution had been followed then this bill would have never made it to the senate. Or at least I believe that. Having it passed in the Senate first gave the democrats a physiological advantage when it went to the house. The reason it was created in the senate in this fashion is because it could not get passed in the house because too many people wanted something different.
The founded never intended that scam.
