Is this why CIA chief really resigned? Gun running to jihadists could dwarf 'Fast and Furious'...

JERUSALEM – The speculation surrounding the sudden resignation of CIA Chief General David Petraeus is focusing in large part on his role in an alleged cover-up of the attacks against the U.S. mission in Benghazi this past September.

Perhaps overlooked is the CIA’s role in purportedly using the Benghazi mission to coordinate U.S. aid to Syrian opposition groups and information those same insurgents include jihadists openly acting under the al-Qaida umbrella.

One week before he was slated to testify before Congress on the Benghazi debacle, Petraeus on Friday night announced his resignation, citing an extramarital affair, and it was reported he will no longer testify.

Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., the House Homeland Security Committee chairman, charged in an interview with CNN that Petraeus is “at the center of this, and there are answers that only he has.” King was referring to the Benghazi attacks.

Asked if he will still call for Petraeus testify despite his resignation, Rep. King replied, “Absolutely, to me, he’s an absolutely necessary witness.”

Patraeus resigned at a time when the U.S. intelligence community is facing criticism over both its response to the assault in Benghazi and whether it had early warnings of al-Qaida plans to attack the U.S. mission in that country.

The White House and multiple State Department officials had immediately blamed a crude film about the Islamic figure Mohammad for what they claimed were popular protests that preceded the attacks on the U.S. mission.

According to new, vivid accounts provided by the State Department and intelligence officials, no such popular demonstration took place the night of the attack. Instead, video footage from Benghazi reportedly shows an organized group of armed men attacking the compound, the officials said.

That Benghazi compound is repeatedly referred by the news media to as a “consulate.”

Plus, whatever the name was of the Secret Service guy who recently offed himself. That very rarely happens.

Now that he’s a private citizen again, is he own his own protection-wise?
If so, he’s a dead man walking. He’s a walking, but still not talking “assisted suicide” just waiting for the right moment and cover story.

I hope he has a deadman’s switch and that he and those close to him have God’s divine help and mercy.

I guess he and we will find out...one way or the other.

here is what we need to do. make up thousands of signs and bumper stickers that say, “we’re watching the health of gen petraeu”...we need to make everyone aware of it

Who was the woman who died in her car in the ‘garage fire’? She tied in somewhere, but I do not recall if it might have been tied in with gunrunning.

Senate determines if the impeached individual should be removed from public office. Now removing him from office is near impossible,

I doubt we could ever get zero thrown out office. But what we can do is get Senate liberals to vote to keep him "in" office. A vote they will regret one day.

FBI and CIA have no history of cooperation more like muTually assured destruction. His resignation will soon be forgotten as Obama clouds the waters. Not inclined to portray Petraus as a villain for taking this hit. More interested in seeing Hillary held accountable. Both need to sit in the SPOTLITE!

Good question. I guess all in the name of increasing the MB's hold on Islam. we have an islamic potus and of course jarrett was born in Iran and then there is houma and hillary. Of course what starts out to be the MB ends of being terror types if they weren't the same to begin with.

This is the overriding problem with the mid-east.There are no solutions/good answers there. Its always only a matter of time before islam rears its ugly head no matter who you deal with.

The best policy has always been just to sit back and let them destroy one another.Make them pay a huge price if they come after you.and, always bury terrorists with pigs. Its probably the best deterrent ever created.

I think he was being blackmailed, and rather than continue the charade, he decided to come clean with the personal dirt they were lording over him. Now team obama has no leverage, and Patraeus may be of a mind to spill the beans as payback.

But as other posters pointed out, he will need to watch his back if he goes ahead with the Congressional testimoy as he could end up being Fostered/Ron Browned or conversely suffer a timely and oh-so-convenient heart attack like Breitbart.

There may be one reason we have not considered that prevented Petraeus from taking a polygraph. For all we know Petraeus has been CIA for a long, long time.If so it would have made really good sense to put him in charge of CIA. If so he may have taken numerous polygraphs over the years before the affair.

Just a guess.

I'm starting to believe that you can't be elected to office or nominated for a post UNLESS you have some dirt that your PTB can use as leverage to keep you in line. Maybe that was Romney's problem - the global bankster/Soros/media cabal didn't have dirt on him and wouldn't be able to keep him on reservation - even though he believed in a lot of their agenda.

IMHO it's the reason for inJustice Robert's weird and convoluted out-of-thin-air creation of the individual mandate "tax".

I think your question is central. If Petraeus wanted to resign to expose Obama’s treason, he could, should and would have done so before his reelection.

I think at best this can be seen as his not wanting to commit perjury in his testimony to Congress, and in turn Obama’s crew making sure he got smeared with what they’d been blackmailing him with on his way out.

Personally I see Obama as the 'image' speaking for the hidden power brokers that we as Americans are clueless as to what is really taking place.

Probably the best comment made here so far. I have always seen zero as strictly Manchurian being played. Just a skinny, half black marionette.

It will not be Petraeus’s untimely death, it will be the death of his children, his wife, Paula Broadwell’s children, or husband that may keep Petraeus in check for Obama. This Chicago mafia will stop at nothing to maintain control of the country and therefore its billions of dollars. I do not know if Petraeus can protect them and still tell all.

When dealing with a deadly threat, if one has access to media it is far better to go public than to cower. Think Jennifer Flowers or Paula Jones. Both were so visible that it would have been very hard to knock them off without inducing an investigation looking into every similar case.

So Petraeus goes to the media. What did the media say about Benghazi or the Video or Fast and Furious or Black Panthers at the Polling places, or Iranian shooting at US Drones, or the 4 different birth certificates, or anything critical of Obama? Obama owns the media. I would not be surprised if the FBI background checks on Brokaw, Blitzer, and all of the rest has been done and message sent. Relying on media to do the right thing is as perilous as expecting Obama and the dems to do the right thing. Did the media give a damn about the killing of our Border Patrol? Do they give a damn about anything but obama spending trillions putting your children and my children in debt to communist Chinese? I am afraid if you are going to put your life in the hands of the altruism and patriotism of the Main Street Media you have much more faith in them than I have. As time grows close for a scheduled Petraeus testimony to be given Mr. Petreaus will be subtly reminded of how dangerous this could be for his family for the 4 and 6 year old children of Broadwell, for his wife, for her husband. The message will be received as exactly what it is. Again I do not know how Petreaus protects his family and the family of Broadwell (ALL innocent) and still tell the unvarnished truth. I think Petreaus is an honorable man who did something wrong. I do not think there is anyone under the sun who regrets more what has happened than Petreaus. But he is in a dangerous place and worse, he has put a lot of innocent people in a very dangerous place.

I would not write off any possibility. After Aldrich Ames they were SUPPOSED to have gotten better about following established security/polygraph timelines. If he had been subject to polygraphs for security clearances previously, he SHOULD have been polygraphed every time he came home from an overseas assignment. If he was CIA. Not sure about other agencies.

An affair with a US citizen, as long as he was honest, would not be a red flag, it’s the foreign nationals they’re worried about. I’m more inclined to believe he fessed up during the background investigation (which is why I find the reason he’s offering for his resignation ridiculous), but it’s possible he was not properly investigated because of who he was. If that’s the case, I hope they learn their lesson (again).
