Modern wheat is a "perfect, chronic poison," according to Dr. William Davis, a cardiologist who has published a book all about the world's most popular grain.
Davis said that the wheat we eat these days isn't the wheat your grandma had: "It's an 18-inch tall plant created by genetic research in the '60s and '70s," he said on "CBS This Morning." "This thing has many new features nobody told you about, such as there's a new protein in this thing called gliadin. It's not gluten. I'm not addressing people with gluten sensitivities and celiac disease. I'm talking about everybody else because everybody else is susceptible to the gliadin protein that is an opiate. This thing binds into the opiate receptors in your brain and in most people stimulates appetite, such that we consume 440 more calories per day, 365 days per year."
Asked if the farming industry could change back to the grain it formerly produced, Davis said it could, but it would not be economically feasible because it yields less per acre. However, Davis said a movement has begun with people turning away from wheat - and dropping substantial weight.
"If three people lost eight pounds, big deal," he said. "But we're seeing hundreds of thousands of people losing 30, 80, 150 pounds. Diabetics become no longer diabetic; people with arthritis having dramatic relief. People losing leg swelling, acid reflux, irritable bowel syndrome, depression, and on and on every day."
To avoid these wheat-oriented products, Davis suggests eating "real food," such as avocados, olives, olive oil, meats, and vegetables....

Because comparing this thread to govt mandated foods is silly
that's the problem...what else is there to eat?
All I’m saying is that there’s people out there like Bloomberg who just troll for this kind of hyperbolic headlining statements to find some other reason to ban something. I have family members like that.
I watched sugar go through this process, where doctors say “Sugar is toxic!”, meaning you shouldn’t cram candy bars down your gullet all day and behave yourself. When NYC banned large sized sodas, this sound byte was everywhere.
So, in my humble opinion, people could at least refrain from such sensationalism and make it less easy for those people.
I hate it when that happens!
The thread is about a doctor who identified that modern strains of wheat contain a protein which causes harm.
Eat whatever you want. Personally I like learning about alternatives to the processed crap being pushed on us.
No, I didn’t! They are probably in the same class as bread, carb-wise.
Because I am engaged in a lengthy home remodel (”the vampire work-pig”, I call it) and have no kitchen, I eat out almost all the time. I eat lots of burgers, but when I do at a non-McDonald’s, I delete the bun. I am fanatical about eating breakfast, as well. And with that, I have hashbrowns, and they are probably not cooked all that healthily. With a steak, I proceed to a baked potato, loaded.
My 2 sentence diet is:
1: Delete bread and pasta.
2: The only fatal mistake is to skip breakfast.
Not eating breakfast means your metabolism doesn’t get started and in my completely non-scientific opinion, puts “your” (I am of course only talking about me) in a “hoard” mode where it doesn’t want to burn what it has stored and thinks you are going to starve it. Believe me, I am the last person on earth to be or get religious about a diet or tell anyone what or how to eat. I used to be 5 cups of coffee on an empty stomach before going into some kind of hypoglycemic shock state around 2 pm. I just can’t do that any more.
But I am convinced that bread is evil, and just trying not to eat any will lose you enough weight quickly enough to convince you that’s very probably “something there”. I’m fairly convinced that if you make a good faith effort to not eat bread and make no other changes, you might lose say 10 lbs in a month. Whether you’l look better or feel better or think better, I won’t posit.
I am not one to go for fads, but I ran across a link to his book, read what I could on Amazon and thought well, why not give it a try and drop anything with wheat from my diet.
After a few weeks I felt a lot better, more energy, dropped weight pretty easily. It's not as free a country as when I grew up, but folks can try it or not as they see fit.
>Anybody who believes modern wheat is going to poison them IS a gullible fool.<
So, would you like to enlighten the rest of us how wheat in the diet does not contribute, in many people, to chronic hyper-insulinity, high LDL cholesterol, type 2 diabetes and heart disease?
I'm gonn'a hold off 'til they come up with intrafats. .. cosier that way
“Anybody who believes modern wheat is going to poison them IS a gullible fool. Ditto to anyone who thinks that Monsanto corn is a tool of a giant conspiracy to experiment on the human race.”
So all wheat is the same? Why do some varieties grow faster, some more drought tolerant, others more pest resistant, or have a higher yield? Why? Because its slightly different and as such has a slightly different chemical makeup. Very minute amounts of some chemicals can have tremendous impact on our bodies. To think otherwise is ignorant.
Monsanto isn’t experimenting on the human race. They are seeking to control the food supply and the means of production. They are willing to use the govt and courts to force their will upon others. They and the other major food producers are willing to do anything in their efforts, up to and including using parts of aborted babies to design their products.
So please pardon me if I’m unwilling to accept your condescension.
There are several articles on the web that talk about the elimination of carbohydrates of all forms from the diet to get the body down to a healthy weight. Here is one of such articles that touches on the latest science on the subject:

I’m in the middle of Dr. Davis’s book. While it’s an interesting read, it’s a pity that he hasn’t compared his experiences with the scientific literature about gliadens (gluten) and the auto-immune system.
If anyone wants some scientific confirmation of the harmful effects of gluten on the immune system (not for everybody, obviously, but for many people), check out “Why do I still have Thyroid Symptoms If my Labs are Normal,” by Datis Kharrazian, D.C. (It’s a book, available on Amazon).
Food allergies. They exist. That’s all there is to it. Same reason some people break out in hives from some chemicals.

Yes, accepting reality is condescension.
We buy “Wheat Montana” red and white. Some Walmarts even carry it, in 25# bags. It’s about 14 bucks.
Some sources sell it in sealed five gallon buckets, which keep well for a long time.
You have to store it airtight or the weevils will get it pretty quick.
There are a lot of different mills out there, some good, some not so good. You tend to get what you pay for. Its’ worth a few extra bucks to get a good one, in my opinion.
We’ve tried several mills, but the best one we’ve got is about thirty years old. “Miracle” brand I think it is. It’s got stone wheels. There are some modern mills like the “NutriMill” which explode the berries somehow. I’m not so sure that’s a good thing. I like the stones.
But anything would be better than using that dead junk they call “flour” from the stores.
The diet you are describing is not too different from South Beach. I lost a lot of weight on South Beach a few years back and felt wonderful. Then, I stopped following SB and gained all the weight back, plus. I need to start over, and I just can’t get motivated.
Are you serious? (about the cake)
I’ve been on Atkins for years. I’m on the maintenance part of the diet. I allow myself one cheat day per week. I have to say that I have more energy, can dance up a storm and have no diabetes, no high cholesterol, no high blood pressure, etc. I have my doctor’s permission to party hardy! LOL
If I cheat too much, I suffer the consequences. I bloat up, I have less energy and I feel like I’m dragging around a thousand pounds. My acid reflux problem returns.
The Atkins diet works and works well.
