Canada has had universal health care for a long time.
When Robert Bourassa, the premier of Quebec, Canada, needed cancer treatment, he came to the United States.

There will be a service vacuum that will need to be filled. I predict the more our system becomes socialized, I predict they will start to free up their system to the market.
I believe the way it works in Britain is doctors pay an extra 20% tax on their NHS salary to moonlight at private clinics. I kid you not. Their marxist brethren here will devise a similar shake down plan for doctors and their rich patients.
Costa Rica, like everyone else will....
They will continue to come here because we do not have Universal Health Care yet. The vast majority of it will not be implemented until 2014 and later...and before that time, it will be over turned.
From your lips...McConnell is already getting queasy at the thought and Romney is busy inserting his foot into his mouth, so it isn't looking good for repeal of any type at the moment.
I don’t know, but those people who live under socialized medicine already can expect to pay more for their drugs, as Pharma co.’s won’t be able to charge Americans more to offset losses in their countries.
In my circle of friends and acquaintances, I know of three or four who will not participate in the purposeful destruction of the American Health System.
It is fascinating how so many of our fellow Citizens embrace Tyranny through willful ignorance and apathy.
Have no fear, elite ruling classes will always get the best no matter what us useless lumps of flesh have.
To Tijuana with the rest of us.
The black market takes over in Canada, and the black market takes over in the U.S. It’s a win-win situation for the black market. It’s, still, possible for the U.S. to turn things around and, truly, become a conservative, capitalistic country again, but I’m not holding my breath. I’m of the opinion that it’s, already, too late for the political right to make a long-term, full recovery in the U.S., but I, really, want to be proven wrong about this, as soon as possible, please.
My guess, in the long run, is India. It will take awhile for the looters to hollow out the U.S. healthcare system, but the deterioration will accelerate as time goes on. Medical tourism is already growing due to cost differentials, and as U.S. quality slides ever lower, the trickle will become a flood. We have made a whole bunch of people in the developing world very rich, while offshoring another cutting edge industry.
Easy, they will go to the same place all the politicians and government workers go. You Dont really think Politicians and Government workers and all the Union Workers who have Waivers and who have Private Insurance Paid for by Taxpayers, will have to Be On Obamacare do you?
India, most of our doctors come from there anyway. ;-)
Much of the Canadian system is privately operated and is a provincial responsibility , not a federal one . Doctors are not government employees , they operate their own businesses and amongst others, there are 52 blood test companies and several privately owned MRI/CATscan companies etc.operating in Canada . They simply bill the provincial governments for their services.
Harper won’t change , even if he wanted to , the Canada Health Act. It would be political suicide. Obama care , or whatever label Americans choose to call it, is not the same as Canadian health care, not even close.
Bourassa died of skin cancer (melanoma)16 years ago. Stronach had her nipple rebuilt in California . Other than that wee touch up, Belinda had surgery and treatment in Toronto . In February 2010 Williams recuperated in his Miami condo after being treated at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami. . Miami or Newfoundland, in February . Where would you want to be?
You don't know how right your are. Most doc's I know that are old enough (most experienced) and financially well off plan on retiring early. I can't give you statistics but I can tell you they are not bluffing and this is going to happen soon. THose who haven't entered the pipeline (med school) will reconsider spending the next 7-12 years of their life giving up any significant income while working their arses off. In the end they will make more income and enjoy their youth as an elementary school teacher with a 4 year degree. That leaves the ones caught in the middle to make a decision to stay or do something else. I would not like to be in that group.
All the richie riches of the world used to come to the US for care. We also used to train their doctors. Watch it all die as we sink to the lowest common denominator.
I was talking with a close friend involved in hospital managment for years. He said he already knows which docs will thrive in a system of lowered expectations and which docs will move on to a different career. It’s bad news for patients.
