I hope your post doesn’t touch off the usual venom and dismissal of the Confederacy as a slavers’ rebellion. The Kennedy brothers’ book was the impetus (c.1992)to my research and embrace of my Southern heritage. Joined the Sons of Confederate Veterans in 1997. I moved from Connecticut to SC in ‘06..it’s not perfect, but what a difference. I’m happy to be in a place ( a small town) where people earnestly ask for God’s blessing on each other constantly.

Once the southern states participated in the election of 1860 [and didn’t secede before that election], they were bound by its result, whether they liked it or not.

The rebellion was a political power grab, not a legitimate expression of the Southern people. As NC's Confederate governor admitted:
"
.I have always believed, that the great popular heart is not now, and never has been in this war. It was a revolution of the Politicians; not the People."

Sighhh, the people from the NE part of the US are bringing their particular kind of “religion” to the South. It is what I want to kick back up there and not allow it to propagate. North, I don’t want your secularism or your Unitarian-Universalism here. And, I don’t want your particular kind of brainwashing liberalism here either. We have lost some of our religious colleges and universities to those stinking way of thinking. Now get thee back to your hole where you belong!

The South: Democratic Party, slavery, KKK, anti-semitic Jew-haters, etc.
The North: Republican Party, abotlitionists, Robber Barons, big business, anti-Irish, etc.
Everyone else west of the Rocky Mountains: glad they do not live in the east!

Now, before we go further let's do what we have to do, condemn slavery as the sin of the past. It was wrong. It was wrong in the North, and wrong in the South. Taking a man's liberty is taking a gift from the Almighty Father and that is wrong. No point wasting a lot of space in debate, or discussion. So let's move on. This article is not about the past, it is about today. End of discussion. Without slavery, there would have never been a Civil War.
