Why is FR the slowest I visit? I have almost quit coming here, not that anyone cares, due to slow loading of a TEXT forum .
Probably because Mrs. Piper is in the other room downloading porn.
Or it could be Sidebar haunting yuo from beyond the grave.
Or maybe I Am Not A Mod discovered that duct taped shut box in the corner with the neato toys that we were hoping to hide from them.
Or maybe the kitties chewed on the cords again.
I dunno, I’m just tossing stuff out there and seeing what is plausible.
(1) Donation funded = less $$$$$ = less horsepower = slower.
(2) HUGE user base.
(3) (Suposition, but verified on occasion): Under nearly constant attack by leftist hackers.
So yeah, it’s a bit slow at times. But understandably! And well worth it! Want to help? Give a little to address (1)!
Inability to remeber a few minutes back indicates that you don't have the intellect to be a valued contributor, so my bet is that 5 minutes after you dump FR, nobody will remember you ever existed...
Let me start the countdown: 5 min - 4 min, 30 secs - ...
Then why are you whining about it?
Vanity posts.
Most of the folks that enjoy this site are conservative. As conservatives, most don’t complain about recieving a service for “free”. There are exceptions of course.
Um, who are you talking about? /lol
In all honesty, it would be great if Jim or John looked into cloud-based infrastructure like Amazon Web Services.
I have migrated my company’s infrastructure to be entirely hosted from Amazon Web Services (and spread out the technology using their database hosting, their Simple Storage Service, and their on-demand computing instances) and it’s been a godsend. No more worrying about hardware or downtime (though the possibility exists, it’s out of my control). Plus, I can set it up to scale up and scale down as demand hits, to automatically add servers and shut them down after a traffic spike (I’ll soon implement Amazon Auto Scaling to add a number of “servers” each day during my company’s morning rush and release them in the early afternoon).
True. But I do notice a difference in the last month or so.
Apologies - aimed at piper and similarites confused the old eyes...
So FR should move from its own servers to those of a major internet company?? Not so fast. All of a sudden FR's continued existence could be threatened by a corrupt government pressuring that company with all sorts of threats (investigation, IRS, etc.) if it continued to allow FR stories and comments disparaging that government/administration to be published from its servers. How long do you think FR would be able to provide a conservative voice on the net with the threat of being shutout??
I'm sure Jim and John would say "No thanks" to your suggestion.
As I post this I'm at 104 - 120mbps at home at work we rarely go over 100mbps.
At least FR isn't SLOW AND STUPID like DU-land, LOL!
Are you logged in?
It takes a few seconds for the NSA/FBI/DHS/TSA/CIA/Whithouse to log your IP address into their database of possible domestic terrorists and install the latest tracking software on your computer.
I admit I don't understand what's involved with that kind of thing, but:
Suppose they did that. Suppose FR became dependent on another privately owned entity. Then suppose that other privately owned entity decided they didn't like FR’s politics or position on a particular issue and decided to cut FR off, as many here would say is their right.
What then?
same issue here. definitely the slowest loading for some reason.
my bandwidth and equipment are not the issue.
definitely an issue with the server(s).
i had called to offer a blade rack, if that would help... but i guess they have equipment.
it can’t be load, as the number of members isn’t over 100,000 and the number of posts aren’t that high (< 1,000 posts/min)
i’m guessing either issues with the database or nonstop ddos.
if the problem is ddos, make it public and contact the authorities, as ddos is classified as a form of cyber terrorism
