Republican leaders in the Oklahoma Legislature have killed a pro-life bill without even allowing a floor vote on the measure.
The personhood bill would acknowledge that life begins at conception and has been passed or is under debate in a dozen states.
The Oklahoma House and Senate are controlled by Republican leaders who run for re-election under a GOP pro-life platform that promotes the sanctity of life.
One GOP lawmaker said the personhood bill was killed because the State Chamber of Commerce instructed the GOP leadership to do so because the chamber didnt want any negative national publicity.

How will pro-lifers respond?
By continuing to vote for any Republican, no matter how liberal?
“One GOP lawmaker said the personhood bill was killed because the State Chamber of Commerce instructed the GOP leadership to do so because the chamber didnt want any negative national publicity.”
How would the Chamber of Commerce be affected by pro-life legislation?
Also....I keep hearing that the economy trumps Social Issues in the upcoming election. Christian Social issues taking a back seat? There is a term for this, it`s in the Bible and it`s called backsliding.
Ah ha - the old “decision by the caucus” has now joined the “decision by the committee”. No one wants to own up. Chicken livered skunks!
A friend of mine contacted Eddie Field’s office and spoke with him regarding the bill in question. There is more to it than what is being reported in the article:
Following is the email I got from my friend regarding this issue:
“I also called the same day that I emailed him. I spoke to an aid who said he would get more information and return my call. Later Sen. Fields himself called. He told me everything that was in the below email [shown below] and also that he had talked with the chief justice of the state supreme court. The chief justice’s agreed that HB 1552, if passed, would immediately be attached to the same law suit that in which the state question is now in federal court in Denver. We also discussed the fact that an amendment to the OK constitution would be far better than a law. He expects the federal judge to vote in our favor. I think he may be too optimistic, but I pray that he is right.”
This is the email my friend also received from his office:
Xxxxxxxxx, thank you for the email. I want to start with that I was one of the co-authors in the house on the HJR that put this to the vote of the people in 2010. Currently the state question is in federal court and there is still a chance to put this into our State Constitution but because of the lawsuit and potential of another lawsuit on this bill, I voted no because I dont want to waste any for tax payers dollars defending another lawsuit. I do agree with you that we need to outlaw the use of sharia law or foreign law in our state courts but I believe it should be in our Constitution not in state statutes. I promise you that next year we will take care of this one way or another. If you have any other questions, please contact me. Thank you, Eddie Fields.

I hope this sheds light on this subject!
This is a total bs article—get your facts straight..
Unfortunately the current two party system leaves us the choice of death by Drano or death by rat poison. One is quicker but the other more deceptive. Republicans co-opted and destroyed the tea-party movement, they have seduced and betrayed the social conservative movement (Mitt is more pro homo than even B. Sotero) they have fought against border enforcement, they mocked any who would enforce the natural born requirement, they gave us Dole, McCain, 2 Bushes and Mittens. The party is morally bankrupt, their self serving inaction has also bankrupted the nation. I do not believe that they want limited government, they just want you to believe tyranny will better under the GOP.
So what's wrong with joining the suit in Denver? The more states the merrier - btw in Colorado it is the person-hood amendment to the CO constitution. As far as an OK amendment, why not get a law and them move to amend. Do not let the best be the enemy of the good - especially when the good is going to save lives and make a moral stand.
Looks like you’ve got a RINO there!
The GOP leadership nationwide is just as immersed in eugenics as the creepiest liberals are in supporting abortion “rights”.
Great post, short and dead on Davey.
What did they fall for? What ‘could happen’. Where are the ones with a spine to stand up for what they believe - NO MATTER WHAT! Where is that Patriotic spirit in this country? Instead of what’s in it for them.
The Republican Establishment often says “Sell out on social issues just this one more election!”
Well it started with mitt in '08, when some where campaigning for him and calling him a good conservative - yet he had gay marriage and abortion laws under his belt. Social issues took a back seat, like in the trunk back seat.
Yet in '08 these were big for voters and every preceding year but many just settled for whatever. Now, it appears the moral fiber of our country is just gone. Now it's if you sit on the wrong couch. Not a mystery what is next on the agenda for America.
Yes, stop being so pure for just a bit - we have an election to win. So embrace diversity and think of a mother’s rights while we have you on (a throat) hold.
GO NEWT!! He’s STILL on the ballot! Disregard the maggot’s panic attacks.
LOL!
I get the sarcasm, and yeah, the overuse (and complete misuse) of the term "RINO" is obnoxious, and an embarrassment to this site.
Yes - prolifers should continue to vote for RINOs in general elections.
You must remember, however, that the word “primary” is now a verb.
This should also tell those who delude themselves that GOP legislators will somehow "hold Romney's feet to the fire" and not let him do blah, blah, blah, what GOP legislators REALLY respond to all too often: money, money and more money. If this is happening in Oklahoma, imagine how eager Boehner, Cantor, McCarthy, McConnell and the rest will be to outdo the Oklahoma hayseeds in abandoning the babies with glee. Those boys in DC are the major leaguers when it comes to sellouts of principle. "OOOOOOH, they like to do a little side step. Now you see 'em, now you don't....." This exercise in Vichy "Republicanism" in which legislators lusting for business cash stand idly by while the next 54 million or more infants are dismembered and slaughtered is, do not forget, taking place in OKLAHOMA not Taxachusetts, not Californicate, not Illanoy, not just at the 2012 GOP National Convention, but Oklahoma in the Bible Belt!!!
Does anyone else remember when WE had a Republican Party? Some say we need a third party. Maybe, it is more accurate to say we need a second party again.
TOM HOEFLING for POTUS on the American Party. He says what he means and he means what he says. What a concept!
That has become readily apparent given the number of Republicans who claim to be Conservative but espouse the need to support, yet again, another RINO candidate.
Remember, they aren't "principles" if your willing to toss them aside.
It already IS an [expensive] Oklahoma law suit. It is not with other states. It is the amendment to the OK Constitution and the law the people tried to pass recently regarding Sharia law. Fields explained to my friend that if the law regarding defining life had passed, it would right away be challenged in court and would be a further expense to the burdened Oklahoma taxpayer. He is not suggesting we put it off indefinitely. He is saying there is another way to do it, as I understand it...by state question/amendment by the people to the Constitution.
I had thought he was a RINO too, but I’ve been following his voting record, and I’m not satisfied that that is what is going on in this instance.
