A LITTLE KNOWN OBSCURE FACT, IS THAT BILL W., THE CO-FOUNDER OF ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS, PRODUCED AND WROTE THREE PAPERS ABOUT THE BIOCHEMICAL ASPECTS OF ALCOHOLISM.
BILL, SUFFERED HORRIBLY FROM DEPRESSION MOST OF HIS LIFE, BOTH BEFORE AND AFTER SOBRIETY. HE FOUND SOME SUBSTANTIAL RELIEF FROM HIS DEPRESSION IN 1960 AFTER MEETING TWO DOCTORS IN NEW YORK; ABRAM HOFFER AND HUMPHREY OSMOND. THESE TWO DOCTORS WERE RESEARCHING ALCOHOLISM AND MENTAL HEALTH DISORDERS IN CANADA.
AFTER MEETING HOFFER AND OSMOND BILL BEGAN TAKING VITAMIN B-3 (NIACIN). BILL FOUND SUCH A GREAT RELEASE FROM HIS DEPRESSION, THAT HE SET OUT TO ADVANCE THIS SECOND VOCATION FOR THE REMAINING YEARS OF HIS LIFE.
BILL W. GAVE HIS ALL TO PROMOTE, FINANCE, AND HELP THIS AREA OF RESEARCH INTO THE FIELD OF ALCOHOLISM. HE WROTE, EDITED AND DISTRIBUTED THREE PAMPHLETS WHICH HE SENT TO DOCTORS AND MANY FRIENDS BOTH IN AND OUT OF ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS. THE FIRST PAPER WAS PUBLISHED IN 1965, THE SECOND IN 1968 AND THE LAST ONE PUBLISHED POSTHUMOUSLY IN 1971 WITH A FORWARD WRITTEN BY LOIS WILSON HIS WIFE.
THESE THREE PAPERS REPRESENT THE MAJORITY OF HIS TIME AND EFFORT DURING THE LAST DECADE OF HIS LIFE.
SHORTLY BEFORE HIS DEATH, BILL WAS ASKED WHAT ONE THING WOULD HE LIKE TO BE MOST REMEMBERED FOR; HE SAID THAT IT WOULD BE FOR HIS PROMOTION OF THE B-3 THERAPY, NOT THE CREATION OF ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS (Ernest Kurtz, Not-God: A history of Alcoholics Anonymous (Hazeldon Press 1979) P. 137-38.
BELOW, IN THREE DIFFERENT COMMUNICATIONS, BILL W. PRESENTS "THE VITAMIN B-3 THERAPY:"

SPEAK UP!
I CAN'T HEAR YOU!
LOLOL!
If cheese has a culture, does this mean we have to start making bizarre concessions to its religion, too?
[and what *is* the “natural flavor”? or does that simply, subtly imply that the other flavors are somehow unnatural?]
[and so it begins]....;D
Thx for the post. I actually only noticed the all caps in the responses. I must have too interested in the subject matter to notice. Suffice it to say I can use any advise Bill W. had to offer, we share a great deal
On display for your enjoyment -
- at every Green Bay Packers football game.
I take prescription niacin (Niaspan, 3000mg) once a day to reduce cholesterol. It works great.
Bump!
(All AA does is lead people straight to hell with humanism)
I take 1500mg niacin a day (flushing type)....and my skin does not itch all the time....only when I miss a couple of doses, usually.
Just dawned on me....Niacin would probably have saved my grandfather’s life.....alcoholism, depression, committed suicide...
That is why I use it. Dr’s advise.
Welcome to typing 101. There’s a little key on the left side of your keyboard, says Caps Lock. Press it and give us a break on the hollerin.
Just be aware it can cause diabetic readings. It happened to my wife. Once she stopped Niacin, her blood sugar levels returned to normal.
If true, then may it delay my entry for at least one more day.
Yes. Bill Wilson was a hypocrite of the first order. During the time he wrote the 12&12, he was engaged in adultery. It was so bad AA members instituted a founders watch to prevent him from preying on newcomers. This is all documented now but not known by many AAs. Although Bill Wilsons spiritual experience may have been real, he apparently fell away. Jesus talked about this phenomenon in the parable of the sower.
Those that have Bill Wilson on a pedestal need to learn a bit more about him. As far as schophrenia, a good book to read is:
The presence of Spirits in Madness by Wilson Van Dusen.
It is rightly noted that BillS sinful lifestyle was one which lent itself to the onset of depression. If he had given up his adultery as well as all his resentments, perhaps he would have found inner peace and serenity.

I took 3000 mg a day for a couple of months because it supposedly helps arthritis. I started itching all the time. It took me a while to make the connection. I still itch a little a year after I quit taking it.
