SHTF Planning: 20 Lessons from the Streets of Cairo
SHTF Plan ^ | 2/1/12 | Mac Slavo

Posted on 02/01/2012 9:18:43 PM PST by Kartographer

From the somewhat guilt filled comforts of Greece, I have been thinking about what I learned from the recent Cairo SHTF experience. I am not putting myself forth as an expert of any sort and, frankly, many or even most items on the list below might be flat out wrong….who the hell knows. We were in Cairo from Jan 25th until late Feb 3rd when the neighborhood gunfire became full-auto and regularly occurring. At that point, we decided that Friday prayers (the next day) might not yield a pleasant experience. We had no way of knowing that we had already seen the worst.

I'm certain earlier examples exist.

Huh? A comedy movie (Airplane), what survivalist publication of 20-30 years ago is that? The electric fan was invented 126 years ago, the saying is nothing new to anyone,I’m not interested in individuals using it among themselves, (although it is growing quite dated).

To start adopting it as the name of our movement, to use it in our publications which are a permanent body of work, to make it a formal part of our public self description is new, and I can’t believe that any conservative would be fighting tooth and nail to defend taking that deliberate action.

Kart, your posts are inestimably valuable at this time, in this day. Thank you for your dedication to the subject. You have a following, and have created a huge group of like thinking fellow travelers who either seek your posts, or have joined your ping list.

We are here for a common cause, and if someone has a problem with your post, they can ask you to change, or they can change, or they can take it to the moderator. This needn't take a whole disrupted thread to resolve.

I hope your future posts won't be disrupted and sidetracked. I look forward to your continued postings, and thank you!

I agree with Lurker.

This is some good stuff and might get people to think a little better if they're caught in a situation.

For those who don't realize how different things can be a few blocks away, there is a picture of Washington DC in the '60s looking over a relatively placid Mall toward columns of smoke rising from areas to the NW (in town, riots were going on that day).

It was as different from where the smoke was rising to where the picture was taken from as the difference the writer describes.

When the SHTF, we'll all find out who is solid and who isn't, and some folks will be surprised.

Sorry, I got caught up reading the comments, or I'd have said so sooner.

How does the use of a word define either the liberal or Conservative movement?

Only liberals strive to incorporate such a thing into the mainstream.

Conservatives resist the destruction of our culture and society.

You never heard of the culture war between the right and left?

An Ad Hoc decision by you does not justify what words or phrasing can be termed “right or left”

Get over yourself. SHTF very aptly decribes what is coming. Don’t beleive me. Throw some in a fan. It will hit everything and everyone regardless who you are or your station in life.

Who is this "our" you keep talking about?

My time with preparedness and the survival movement goes well back into the 1960s, “our” means us, those who are a part of the survival, preparedness movement, or have an interest in it.

ansel12 what I see is a person more worried about someone using a word than if your fellows are prepared for whats coming. All your brag about how a great and experienced prepper you are, but after researching your posting history I could not find one instant where you posted a article on preparedness or survival. I couldn’t fine one instant where you ever contributed one iota, one idea, one comment using of your ‘vast knowledge of survival/preparedness’ in an effort to teach, assist promote or even discuss survival/preparedness.

Yet you have written reams about the use of the term SHTF. I would point out that you yourself used the spelled ‘s’ word more in your post than most people use it in a year’s worth of their speech.

The article of the thread was about the real world experience someone who has been through a period of social/governmental/financial breakdown. Such knowledge is invaluable to anyone preparing themselves for such an event.

It is near the same as a new boot arriving in theater being told by a vet to “Forget about what they think they know and listen to me and you might just stay alive.”

This article provided just that type of firsthand knowledge. Can you provide the equivalent?

Would you prevent such knowledge from being relayed because they use rough language. My goal is to keep people alive you goal is to clean-up some language in the great scheme of things which do you conceder the greater goal?

Now can you point out anywhere were you logical discussed the subject of the post that of the best stratagem for saying safe and surviving such a break down? Can you show where you used your vast experience and knowledge to analyze what the author did and then provide an intelligent critique of his actions? Or of the situation or of Preparedness/Survival in general.

No what you did was to highjack a thread and turn it into your own personal soapbox while provide nothing of benefit on the subject of the thread.

You say we need to write these author and convince them not to use the term. I ask you now how many of them have you written to? Me I will continue to comb the net and provide as much valuable information as I can to my fellow Freepers so that they and their families might survive.

I wish you well in your efforts to save them from fowl language, meanwhile I will continue mine to keep them alive.

Stop feeding the troll. He's hindering the free flow of information

You can always preface your posts with "eat $h1+ ansel12", and then proceed with posting something relevant, as if the fly in the room were not here.

Apparently JR approves of his behavior, just don't let a fly get in the way of your mission.

The view from the cheap seats.

I see someone who has WAAAYYY too much time on his hands.

ansel12, if you want to make this your raison d'être, you're going to have to carry that banner alone. The rest of us have more important things to worry about, the TSHTF, at which point, the language usage is going to be the LEAST of your worries.

Keep it coming, Kart!

Straight to hell with the disruptors.

You’re right on track.

We may go Argentina, we may go Mad Max, we may pull our heads out and save the republic, but whatever the outcome, your posts will save lives.

Keep it coming, Kart!

That post didn’t make any sense, too much time? raison d’être?

It is just a conservative freeper posting on a thread, see post 162, and I noticed that the excerpt from the article was removed.
