Did you know that we have Special Forces soldiers dying in Syria right now? No? Well, if you haven't heard that, you must not have spoken to Nadin Brzezinski, wanna-be Woodward & Bernstein for the East County Magazine, and omniscient sage of the DUmp.
She enlightens all of her minions, who aren't buying her story about an Occupy San Diego chef-turned KIA Spec Op soldier, in the following thread:

SOLDIERS FACEBOOK POST RAISES QUESTIONS ABOUT U.S. SPECIAL FORCES IN SYRIA
Thats where Nadin Brzenstein goes for her deep cover, well-placed sources: Facebook. Because if its posted on Facebook, its GOTTA be correct!
NB: anuary 17, 2012 (San Diego) On January 2, a soldier in San Diego linked to Special Forces posted on his Facebook page that he was deploying to Syria. The soldiers Facebook page has been scrubbed, as well as almost all references to him. Still, this tantalizing piece of information startled readers, leading many to ask: does our country have troops in Syria and if so, why?
Don the tinfoil hat! The FB page was scrubbed!!! Know-it-All Nadin Conspiracy Theory Alert! Exactly HOW was he linked to Special Forces? Why would a special forces soldier post on Facebook where he is being deployed? Why would Nadin believe (and then report) such fanciful nonsense as fact?
The Facebook posting raises additional questions. Why would a special forces soldier reveal the destination for a mission online? That answer may never be known, since according to family, he lost his life overseas and his body is en route home.

Point one, sorry for the length of the article, it is long. It is best read at the ECM site since it is chockfull of links...
Nadia is best read at the DUmmie Funnies, since she is chockfull of nutty craziness! Now, the DUmmies chime in to pat Nadin on her ample back and congratulate her for her sleuthing skills!
Who was the soldier and what was his "link"?
NB: The soldier is dead and the page was scrubbed. I happen to have it. His link was to the US Army Special Operations Command.
Nadin responds tersely. But readers neednt fear. Nadin has the name. We can all take her word for it.
But what was the link? He was a member? How and when did he die?
NB: How he died, in action. where, I have my suspicions, but I could not tell you for sure, the DoD will confirm that when pigs fly, and it would put at risk an ongoing operation. You understand that. But we have, just form the open source material and doing a lot of reading between the lines, a good idea.
Nadin reveals her standards of journalism: I read stuff on the internets and I make a bunch of stupid guesses.
Did you call the family?
NB: Friends of his did I got a non denial denial from his command. He is being buried this week.
Post the denial, please. And the name of the officer you spoke with, thank you.
NB: No... that is info that I will not release here not on an open forum.
A reporter that wont report. Gotcha.
Then I call "nonsense", sorry. If you called a base and identified yourself as press, you spoke with a trained information officer who gave you a quote you can use.
NB: Yes I did... you are correct, one that took 36 hours to get back I both called and emailed the base. But you are free to call this bullsh**. I know that how this came out we were going WTF ourselves... due to the actual rank violation of OpSec... But in twenty years or when pigs fly and this finally comes out... remember you read it here first.
Ill be proven right within two decades er, business decades. And then youll come crawling back to me to kiss my feet!
Then you can post that email.
NB: It is out of respect to the family I will not You understand that? I hope you do.
Since when do DUmmies care about the families of soldiers? And since when would those families be reading the cesspool of the internets, DU, to see the name of their son that they already know has passed away?
In one post you say, you won't post the info because it violates OPSEC, something that you as a citizen are not obliged to uphold and in another you say you are protecting a dead soldier's family. I think you think you are some cyber Mata Hari, I haven't seen anything that you can back up.
NB: Ok there are things about this story that you will NOT get it will put lives at risk and sources at risk, You understand that? It has nothing to do with mata hari. No, the NYP does not print all there is to any story EITHER.
Wait a minute. Nadin already confessed that all she does is search open source material (read: I surf the web) and then she makes stuff up. Now shes worried about protecting her sources? What? Is she protecting Facebook? Mark Zuckerberg? And then she compares her work for the august East County Magazine to that of the Old Grey Lady? Well, they both make stuff up, after all.
OWS San Diego canceled the memorial saying Jay Polk's not dead Who exactly did you confirm his death with?
Ruh roh. The cracks appear.
NB: the memorial was held Patriot Guard was present, so was a largish contingent from OCCUPY SAN DIEGO, and Veterans for Peace. This event split Occupy to points that I only observe, but that is what it did. Not only that, it drove more than a few long time activists away as well... because of the ugliness and I am not going to go into more on this. Suffice it to say OSD went to war with itself.
I can see where the ugliness of Occupy could drive people away. So OWS says the memorial was canceled, but Nadia says the memorial was held. Which liar should we believe? And notice that Nadia will NOT say who confirmed the soldiers death.
His wife posted on his Facebook count that he had died, but would not respond to media request for c Only contact available was through the Occupy Page and family later posted that they would be returning all emails unread.
Nadias editor, Liberty Belle, chimes in (LB from here on). So, again, the ONLY source being used here is Facebook. Thats credible.
LB: Here is a screenshot of his post: Last day in sd leave in the morning for Syria love u guys at osd wish u all the best in everything yall do I hope I see u guys again I captured it before it was taken down. he also told local Occupy members in person that he was going to Syria. So there is no question that it was Jay who made this statement. I also have a screenshot of his wife informing the group that he had died overseas, but for her privacy will not post it as she does not wish to be disturbed in her time of grief. But anyone in Occupy SD can confirm seeing it - it was widely discussed. Is this firm proof that he was in Syria when he died? No, but he most certainly claimed he was going there
Okay, NOW we finally have some other corroboration, another CREDIBLE source: Occupy San Diego itself. Apparently, this Special Forces soldier was marching with the Occupier crowd and telling them he was going to go die in Syria. Well, why wouldnt we believe a bunch of dirty, tent-dwelling, bong-sucking anti-capitalists like Occupy?
I have a screenshot as well that says he's going to Paris. Well, he says "Puris." But I suspect he meant Paris.
LB: The deleted posts have been restored. As for the "puris" post not sure if that means paris, but if so it's possible that's a stop en route to mideast or perhaps the destination changed. No clue why site was scrubbed then restored, unless DOD saw screenshots posted and realized they couldn't hide those posts.
Yes, if Im going somewhere and I have a layover, I always post that Im going to the layover city. And since when does the military fly Special Forces through Paris, rather than through military bases in Germany? Is this guy traveling on Air France? Someone went in to scrub a Facebook page, and then they unscrubbed it?
LB: wife posted on Facebook that he died in line of duty. Sgt. Polk's wife has refused to return any messages and may have been told by DOD not to talk to press. Family also declined offers of donations made online from friends of the soldier (that was among the other posts scrubbed), not the mark of a scammer, but a proud military family more likely. DOD has not confirmed or denied the death (they responded with a nondenial useless response); Nadin contacted another military source she's cited who also was vague. For security reasons Nadin can't disclose more. Is there firm official confirmation? No but nobody's denying it either.
No one is denying the fantastic story that we reported without any facts whatsoever so it MUST be true.
"What I read on Facebook" isn't a source.
NEW NEW UPDATE from 1/12/12: A reporter from a local news website who has been researching this story, says this in an email this morning: He [Jay] died in the line of duty and what he was doing is supper, duper classified,
Supper duper! Yep, thats our Nadin! Shell DUpe you over supper, at lunch, during breakfast
UPDATE FROM EDITOR: Unfortunately for all involved, there have been some real questions raised as to the validity of Jays death. Our original source was within Occupy San Diego, but who is now having second thoughts themselves. Their source was reportedly a member of Jays family. Others have been making calls and have found NO confirmation of his death, either at the DoD site, Jays hometown, theres no funeral home, no obituary, no report of his death except via this family member. And that person is not returning calls.
Hmmm .curiouser and curiouser.
Lots of points don't make sense. Showed thread to ex-army hubby (very much NOT special forces) San Diego is a naval base but ranks is listed as "SGT" and "Master Sergeant" are army designations Master Sergeants aren't generally young men. I've met a few back when my husband was in and they're all within a few years of retirement. There are no Special Forces based at Ft Sam Houston. It's a base to train medical personnel. (This is when I contacted hubby as he was a medic and I recognized the name from his stories.) If he appeared in a parade wearing his uniform it was actionable under UCMJ. If he blabbed to OSD it was actionable. Special Forces don't blab Several other reasons too hubby is calling this guy a fraud.
Something is really starting to smell and its not just the Occupiers.
Occupy San Diego email blast: Death of OSD Food Cte member Jay Polk was based on bad information. Sorry, but we are happy to know that we need not have any memorial.
but the writer of the OP is infallible... or so some would believe. just one more hole in the dam of her supposed insights and knowledge...
If we could somehow just dam up her insights and knowledge.
Bobo the Hobo is so 2010.
“Bobo the Hobo is so 2010.”

LOL
Good post! We might have another “stand in” for PJ! :)
And him saying he's 'Well Decorated' and in the the Special Forces. In short - that don't happen compared to if you're a 'Leg'. Most officers can't even see your file so there's nobody to approve those 'decorations' - it's ALL friggen TOP SECRET. Plus the 'regular' Army brass hates the SF, but that's another matter.
(John Kerry prolly has more decorations than Lifers who spent most of their time (from E5 on) if the SF)
GREAT info, thanks! I knew the whole thing smelled fishy, but I don’t have a military background, so I didn’t know what to believe and what to reject.
What about Nadin’s contention that SF deaths aren’t acknowledged by the DoD for a long time? Any truth to that?
Well, I read something on facebook today that I know for absolutely sure to be a fact, despite the fact that it may or may not be scrubbed, or even of any use to anyone in the DoD...my daughter’s dog went to the groomer today and looks so CUTE!
