LA Times calls Rick Perry a ‘hillbilly’; will liberals demand an apology? [Perry defended Marines]

You hear that sound? Of course you do. It’s a dog whistle. I’m told that we conservatives (read: racists) use dog whistles all the time to clandestinely run down members of minority groups and others with whom we disagree.

It is fascinating, I will concede, that the people we use these coded messages to badmouth—blacks, Latinos, etc.—often seem more adept at hearing the high-frequency whistles than we do. Why, just today, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee became the latest member of the Congressional Black Caucus to call out Newt Gingrich for the “underlying suggestions” in his reference to Barack Obama as the food stamps president. A video of her remarks can be found here.

I heard Gingrich make that reference during the debate, and while it was my sense that he wasn’t attempting to flatter the president, on whose watch the number of Americans at or below the poverty line reached its highest level since the 1960s, I wasn’t unaware of any underlying message having to do with race.

Maybe I’m just that sort of tone-deaf person who needs to have ethnic slurs clearly enunciated in order to hear them. Here’s one that rang loud and clear when I read it.

"How long are we going to have to listen to this hillbilly nonsense before Perry bows to the inevitable and drops out of the GOP presidential race?"

The authors of that putdown were the opinion staff of the Los Angeles Times, and to their credit they didn’t mince their words. They came right out and called the governor of a southern state a hillbilly. The offense that prompted the use of that pejorative term was Rick Perry’s defense of four marines who desecrated Taliban corpses by urinating on them. But the reason is inconsequential. Name calling can be hurtful, as we are so often reminded.

Since the term hillbilly is a slur of an entire group of Americans, I am assuming that the leadership of the DNC and other voices on the left will be issuing condemnations of the LA Timesshortly.

What is next in their bag of slurs to define the Governor of Texas, the decade-plus executive of the 13th largest economy in the world, the one that is booming?

It certainly has been something to watch. His record is stellar and so he had to be given the "dumb" treatment.

Good 4:00 video – Fox interview this morning. Perry: Are "You Better Off Today Than You Were $4 Trillion Ago?"

Has anyone noticed that Governor Perry is the only candidate who is not a Washington insider. The article is being honest. The Republican establishment is Eastern and elitist. They see those who have never lived inside the Beltway as dumb, hicks who need to have their decisions made for them. And year after year after year, those outside the Beltway left those inside the Beltway make all the decisions.

This moron, the party of DC RATS who protects rats in DC, is calling Rick Perry a hillbilly. These people do not have two brain cells to rub together. I'd like to see their dear leader fly a C-130. I wouldn't ride with him.

Perry understands this is war and he also understands crap happens during war. These brave young men are not criminals--they are heroes.

Says a lot when a newspaper in a city taken over by third world illegals has the gall to call a sitting governor a hillbilly.

That’s probably why they think we’re dumb hillbillies.

If Perry got in it would be a conservative earthquake shaking up their money grubbing racket and the people would win in so many ways.

so he had to be given the "dumb" treatment.

Don't fret, he gets it here too, as do the other candidates by the factions of fans of the opponents......It's dog eat dog with the resident bullies attacking anyone who disagrees with their political favorite. And it's gotten worse with every political cycle since I've been here

Enjoy the FR "uncivil war"......and be careful what you say about your favorite guy lest the dogs be unleashed.

The only time the Left "cares" about our heroes in the military is when they can exploit them for their benefit.

Then too remember how Obama called the 13 people killed at Ft. Hood Texas victims of "workplace violence?" And the first lady dressed like she was going to a swank evening affair? We need some class in the White House. Perry class.

The timing on this "varmits" thing is perfect. There cannot be anything dumber in this whole world than one of our modern-day Democrats. I cannot get over those brain-dead RATS in DC actually passing laws to protect "families" of rats and demand they be relocated rather than killed.

God deliver us from D-E-M-O-C-R-A-T-S!! And they have the gall to call us hillbillies.

My beloved grandfather was a Democrat but if he could see what has happened to his party, he wouldn't believe it. There is NOTHING good about a modern-day Democrat!@!

Zell Miller wrote, “A National Party No More.”

He said the LIBERALS moved into the basement of his house [Democrat Party] and took over.

They say that like it’s a bad thing....

I’d rather be called a hillbilly than a Los(t) Angeleno....

If your car broke down on the side of the road, who would be more likely to stop and help you??? Some good ol’ boy driving his 4X4 or someone in a Prius??

I was born and raised in the Appalachian Mountains of southwest Virginia, so, yeah, I've been called a hillbilly more than a few times. :) You're probably thinkin' that explains a few things ... ;) It never has bothered me to be called a hillbilly, I consider it a badge of honor.
