Time to close ranks behind Romney. He will beat Obama.
Owner....owner....now who would that be? Oh yes...Jim Robinson, of course!
Listen newbie, Free Republic doesn't have a lot of rules, but one of them is, if you speak about another member in a post, it's considered common courtesy to 'ping' them to that post (put their Freeper handle in the address block above, so your post goes to their inbox).
You ESPECIALLY do so, if you're going to disparage someone in a post, as you just did to Jim.
“Well, a couple things zotting definitely accomplishes is we dont have to read their obnoxious propaganda or their hateful anti-Christian posts or endure their vicious flame attacks on FR and it ensures theres one less promoter of godless liberal abortion and homo rights, etc, on FR.”
Then ban them for that. But banning, for instance, vocal Romney supporters, does not advance the political cause of conservatives - because Romney is not the real problem. You’d do just as well to ban the GOP in general - the GOP as an organization doesn’t effectively represent conservatives either - Romney is their guy, and it is quite apparent.
I am but a guest at your site, but I also wish to see the conservative cause advanced. The GOP has not effectively advanced the conservative cause, nor has it advanced fiscal prudence, nor has it been effective in advancing the conservative social issues that are important to the underpinnings of the country.
This isn’t Romney’s fault, or Ron Paul’s fault - as misguided as I feel they are politically (in agreement with you). The fault lies squarely with the GOP for failing to champion conservative issues or candidates - and ineffectively (if you are being charitable) supporting conservative social points of view.
My humble opinion: your site should have a lighter touch on the zot button, and less delight at the elimination of those who participate in the political process (presumably on “our” side politically) expressing their views as long as they are not otherwise misbehaving.
This site DOES advance the conservative cause. Romney does not. Period.
You claim to read here all the time, so why don't you explain to us why so many Freepers were excited about Scott Brown's US Senate run?
C'mon. Oughta be easy - you being an expert about this website and all...
“Posters who are not conservative dont benefit FR or the conservative movement. They need to be removed.”
Why not try to persuade them? No, removal and the resultant celebratory spiking of the ball for their removal does not advance the conservative cause. It may be fun to some people, but it does not represent rational championing of conservative principles.
It’s too often pointless political cannibalism, and represents a loss of opportunity to utilize reason and logic and conservative values in changing minds.
Really? That happened in 2007. You joined 3 weeks ago.
Isn’t it funny how there’s all this FR history knowledge with a 3 week old handle?
See Jim Rob's explanation at post 312.
I am not an expert on posting and such, I see this ping all the time, it is not something I wish to do, I post on interesting subjects to me. if you noticed I did post to Jim just before your post if that helps
“This site DOES advance the conservative cause. Romney does not. Period.”
I don’t disagree - but it’s the GOP that does not advance the conservative cause. Romney is just the manifestation of GOP hostility toward conservative principles.
Great answer, DJ. Exactly right, too.
I don't know how many times I've re-posted Jim's mission statement from the home page of FR to various malcontents, misfits, and disruptors.
Simple. You do not advance conservatism by becoming more liberal. People posting on FR to promote a liberal like Romney aren't looking to 'learn', they're looking to get all the good conservatives here to fall in line behind the big (R).
In case you didn't notice, this site isn't a Republican site. It is a site for conservatives.
Anyone can read here and be persuaded by the many brilliant conservative posters here.
But when someone comes on to obviously promote liberalism guised under the elitist entrenched idea of conservatism, it is sniffed out immediately by those who know better.
It is FR etiquette to ping a poster that you quote or talk about. If you don't, another poster will, and/or a Moderator will "smack" you for rudeness. We don't talk about others behind their backs.
If you don’t know what the first amendment covers, then you clearly do not belong here.
geez here we go regarding posting date, It is absurd that I have to answer to someone because I joined on a certain date. Read my posts and see why I didn’t join earlier I am not someone that spend slot of time on the internet, part of my day starts with reading Drudge, then FR first page of news and reading interesting debates. So again like i told others make life difficult for new posters all you want but all you do is discourage some of us from actually contributing.
You're barking up the wrong tree.
With all the info on here, they already know it. And they have chosen.
FR is an activist site and not meant for debating liberal leaning posters. Actually, they ARE hit with info before their zot. Their arguments for someone that is contrary to conservative principles is what gets them zotted.
And then there are the paid operatives and lib trolls.
But you have no problem finding precious time to criticize the site and other posters. Gotcha.
fair enough, but in this instance i did ultimaly post to Jim, but thanks for the advice, I’ll try and do that
Me too. Some just don’t “get it”.
