Free Republic is NOT a liberal debating society. We are conservative activists dedicated to defending our GOD-GIVEN rights, defending our constitution, defending our republic and defending our traditional American way of Life.

In other words, you are urging us to vote FOR all the things limited government conservatism stands against. Rationalize it how you will, but that's exactly what a vote for Romney would be.

And God forbid he won the White House, Romney -- and the people who voted for him out of fear, the people who were so busy thinking about who they were voting against that they missed completetly what they were voting FOR -- will strengthen liberalism and statism in the Republican party as well as the Democrat party. It would kill any hope of the Republican party providing an antidote to oppressive government expansion. Americans would come to hate the Republican party with all the passion of betrayal and cynicism.

If Obama won the White House, the Republican party would grow stronger: Congress would go right in the mid terms, and more and more Americans would identify the Democrat party as the party of Bigger Government, and find hope in the Republican party as its antidote.

Decisions made in fear are almost always, in retrospect, stupid decisions. Voting FOR all the things limited government conservatives stand against, i.e. Romney "because if you don't you support Obama" is a coward's rationale and a genuine coup for liberalism. Romney in the White House would be a coward's victory. Liberalism would win even bigger than it would if Obama was re-elected.

Either that or you support Obama.

Wrong. A vote for either one means you support bigger, more intrusive government, only when you vote for Romney, you support making the Republican party the party of bigger, more intrusive government.

Fear is clouding your vision of reality.

emotional reactions are dangerous things...they interfere with the rational side of the brain.

Then why are you on here trying to elicit them?

AMEN AMEN AMEN!!! Great post!!!

Who would conservatives have more of a chance to influence on matters of policy? O has a vision. a known quantity who will act predictably. We can stop him in Congress. Our military is giving him good advice. We may survive O2. But Mitt is a project manager, not a visionary. He’ll want to appease Dems to enable everyone to get along. Of course the Dems want what he did in Mass done on a national basis. If they get Mitt to get it done for them, its as if they won, isn’t it? We can beat O on what we know he will do. Stymie him in Congress.. But if Mitt has a GOP controlled House he can have the same power to encroach the 2A and introduce state sponsored compulsary health care systems as in Mass.

Romney could be even more dangerous than Obama - conservatives are mobilized to oppose anything Obama demands, but Romney will come with a GOP chorus demanding that conservatives not do anything to undermine a Republican president. The last time this happened we ended up with Medicare Part D, the Department of Homeland Security, the TSA and the Patriot Act - and Romney is well to the left of Bush.

Thank you for a courageous and RIGHTEOUS post. Fear makes people do really stupid things, such as voting for a guy who advocates all the things they oppose. Romney is BAD NEWS for American and bad news for the GOP.

Thank you for the thoughtful question onyx.

My problem is we are all on the same side (or so I would like to think). We need to lighten up with one another and work for the common good and the common goal, which in my humble opinion, is putting the USA first. Things are bad right now, very bad, even globally, and good people need to band together. The amount of corruption running rampant just within our own country (think MF global, fast and furious, etc., etc.) is actually mind boggling. Truth is at a premium.

I apologize for the somewhat naive earnestness of my post!! I am also very much aware that things are never what they seem.
