Tim Tebow's devotion to his religious beliefs is nothing new, but you'd never know it based on what the media is doing to him.
At HuffPo:
Drudge:
Love him. Doubt him. Praise him. Ridicule him. Gape in awe. As the last two months have shown, there are 300 million opinions of the Broncos' quarterback, and every one of them is right
SNL mocks him for his religious devotion.
And of course there is the incomparably disgusting and idiotic Bill Maher:
A "Tebowing.com" site has been created. The cynic in me has doubts about its intentions, especially based on Jared Kleinstein's own words:
After the dramatic win, Denver native Jared Kleinstein and several friends snapped a picture of themselves in the same pose that Tebow took after the game. They dubbed the action "Tebowing" and posted their picture on Facebook. After the pic generated an unexpected number of likes and comments, the 24-year-old Kleinstein launching a website dedicated to Tebowing.
The site sells Tebow gear which allegedly supports local charities. I have an email to the site asking exactly how much of their sales actually goes to charity.
One might to be tempted to think Tebow's acts are unique, but they are not.

Watch carefully during the baseball season and see how many players cross themselves as they come to bat. See how many point skyward after something positive. Watch during a football game and see how many players take a knee after a score.
Tebow speaks openly about his religion, but he does not proselytize. So why is he such a target for liberals?

Bill Maher, the failed comedian and militant atheist, is one reprehensible POS.
You know what, I absolutely agree.
I respect a man who believes in Jesus Christ and is not afraid to say so out loud and in public.
I believe in Jesus Christ.
Maher is just digging his own place in hell.
Amen guys! The critics mean nothing in the big scheme of things, I admire Tim Tebow!!
Matthew 6:5 ¶And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
Matthew 6:6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
You figure idiots like this would be coming out of the woodwork. We all have adversity in life and having faith in Yashua is not a ticket to everything going your way. Yashua also teaches us in many ways and failing is one of them. People like Maher crumble at the least bit of adversity in their life. People like Tebow learn and use it the next time. Yashua also teaches us humility unlike people like Maher.
>>Tebow speaks openly about his religion, but he does not proselytize. So why is he such a target for liberals?
He’s a white man who stand for something. The fact that he stands for Jesus Christ makes them extra crazy. These are people who have rejected the Holy Spirit and they hate themselves for it. Pity them. I’m sure Tebow does. Pray that God does too.
Well, you have to figure they (lefty/commie/progressive)have had some success at intimidating, harrassing, and plain just making crap up about public figures with which they disagree to the point where they have derailed those same public figures... so why quit now?
“Maher is just digging his own place in hell.”
He may have committed Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit.
He also is probably a sodomite. He is self-hating, woman-hating (Palin sexist comments) and God-hating.
People who use such vile language are self-loathing and filled with hatred as are homosexuals. Same hatred for God and the design of man.
He probably has a severe short man, ugly man complex....he was teased and rejected when he was a boy because he was extremely small with a big nose.
Bill skipped maybe one or two days a year not committing Blasphemy.
Another thing is the libs are mad as hell at Tebow is he was meant to be aborted according to them. They are mad at his mom who went against their ideology !
His testimony to and for the Truth makes him a big target !
Maher wouldn’t say this to Tebow’s face.
Maher is a sorry excuse for a human being.
If Tebow was black or even if he bowed toward Mecca, the media would be afraid of him but since he’s white, he’s fair game.
The big deal is 100% racism.
re: “Matthew 6:5 ¶And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

I assume, Bodleian Girl, that your out of context quoting of the two passages above are meant to say that Tebow is “hypocritical” in his faith because he happens to bow a knee in prayer during a game. I suppose, if we take that to it’s logical conclusion, that the same would be true for anyone who prays a silent prayer of thanks over their food in a public restruraunt.
What you are missing is context. The context of the Matthew 6 passeages are set up in verse one of that same chapter, “Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others TO BE SEEN BY THEM”.
In other words - if one’s MOTIVE is to be SEEN, i.e. to receive praise of men, when practicing one’s faith - that IS hypocritical. However, you and I don’t know the heart of Mr. Tebow. We do not know the motives he has for bowing.
In fact, in the very same book of Matthew, chapter 10:27-32, we read what I think is more appropriate for the “controversy” surrounding Mr. Tebow’s acknowledgement of Christ in his life:
Whatever I tell you in the dark, speak in the light; and what you hear in the ear, preach on the housetops. And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Fathers will. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven.”
Now, I could be wrong - if Tebow is doing what he is doing to get “recognition” of men, then that would be hypocritical. But you and I do not see into his heart - only God does that. So, let’s be a bit more slow to accuse someone of being a hypocrite or we may be guilty of spreading a false witness regarding another brother.
I think it is far more likely that Mr. Tebow is refusing to let fear of the world’s reaction keep him from practicing his faith openly.
Remember the example of Daniel who refused to stop praying publicly to God - even though it was against the law and got him thrown into the lion’s den. I think Tebow is being thrown into the proverbial lion’s den now.
If we pray for Tebow, it should be that he keep close to God publicly and privately because the world is after him to slip up - they would love to tear him down for some moral failure.
But Ann Coulter says that Bill Maher is really nice guy. She should know since she hangs out on his show all the time.
Ann also says you should support Mitt Romney.
Maher's fellow atheist Pol Pot was regarded by some as a "nice guy" too.
