This may have happened inadvertently to me the other day. A woman with about three layers of headgear knocked on my car window after I dropped off my family member ;she asked for a ride because she would be late waiting for the next shuttle to work. Since it was just a couple blocks, I agreed. She got out of the car across from her building and leaned back in to say thanks; I assumed she was Hispanic, said “you’re welcome and Merry Christmas.” She averted her eyes, pursed her lips and didn’t reply in kind. As she did so , I noticed the second or third layer layer of her head covering, only the edge showing above her forehead at the hairline, was black. I wondered whether it was some kind of Moslem head scarf.
