These are American senior citizens' favorite cars

The stereotype of elderly drivers preferring Lincolns and Buicks has to come from somewhere. TrueCar.com took a look at the past two years of car sales to buyers at least 65 years old and found a couple common threads. The first thing these buyers are looking for is familiarity. The nameplates and vehicle types that were popular when these buyers were younger rank high with senior buyers, kind of the same way people's musical preferences get frozen in time.

I’m 63 and drive an Infiniti G37 (hardtop) Convertible. Where did I go wrong?

And... I will NOT ever be accused of blocking the fast lane. :-)

When Harry S Truman was president of the local Rotary, that was one of his sayings:

"The Buick stops here."

I think maybe it’s because they’re concerned about turning away from deadhead kamikazi drivers like you.

Unfortunately.....yes, I do know what that feels like. Drove my 1988 Civic to the bar after I lost the Mustang. Gramps comes in and starts needling me about losing the Mustang. I told him to hit the road. A litle old lady comes in and grabs gramps by the ear. She hauls him out yelling, “I sold that Mustang to buy you some Viagra!” Whatever I was drinking shot out my nose.

Mainly I keep little “Mellow Yellow” in the garage and drive the proper Ford 1995 F150 4WD pick up truck which is required in these regions.

Loved the red Ghia too. Every time I think about selling this little guy I get sellers remorse and my kids all start screaming, “it’s mine, it’s mine”.

Toyota Avalon - the Japanese Buick. Nice car, but more refined than your more plebeian Chevrolet Impala/Toyota Camry. A step up for nice, neighborly folks who are in a more comfortable financial situation.

Demographic bulls-eye for Toyota.

Firmly in that demographic. Traded my Lincoln Continental for a Town Car.

But trying to trade for late 90s Mark VIII and a Mercury Marauder.

“Took my BOSS 302 Mustang out. Got beat by an old guy in a scooter chair. We were racing for pinks. Stupid JATOs.”

I am 64 years old and drive a 2008 Shelby GT500.

The floor in mine rotted out so I sold it to a neighborhood kid. I wonder if rotting floors are a VW problem ... my grandson just got his first car, a ‘75 convertible super bug and it has a bad floor too. His dad is going to weld it.

My 85 year old mother fell and broke her pelvis last year. While helping her in therapy I told the therapist that mom had to get the strength back in her left leg so that she could push in the clutch in her Porsche turbo. I was not kidding. Mom's back to stirring the gearbox!

Buicks have rear view mirrors for drivers in the Lubbock area.

"Happiness is Lubbock, Texas, in my rear view mirror."

I had a Buick once which had a rear view mirror...never drove it near Lubbock, though.

Good to see an Audi mentioned. Mom at the tender age of 72, and standing all of 5'4”, just took possession of her 2012 3.0L 280hp Super Charged V6 Audi Q7. She said she hates her friend's granny cars. She cracks us up, but as she always says, “I am 72, not dead”.

I'd love to have a Q7. Out of my price range. LOL

Good for your Mom! I hate "granny cars" too. :-)
