I take it “journalists” are licensed by the government?

I think it depend a lot on whether the blog was really being used to report news or information about any topic or whether it was being used as an online billbord to spouts lies and rants. A guick glance an the last month’s posts would be sufficient to tell the difference.

Presumably then, neither were the pamphleteers of the early republic... unfortunately the news comes more than 200 years too late to help the likes of Adams, Madison or Jefferson.

Reporters get their credentials from the media they work for. There is no government “journalist” license. Anyone I think can start up a news blog and report things or lie or do whatever. The media lies to us all the time. What determines a journalist? Being employed by some media outlet? Look at those supermarket tabloids. You think they’re telling the truth? “Alien Robot Found In Obama’s Bathroom In The White House” - since I wrote it, it’s not factual but if the Washington Post wrote it, it would be.

Another fear tactic to shut us up. Say anything about anyone and they’ll get you for libel or slander, or anything they want! A lawyer’s heyday!
