Romney Campaign Still Sees Perry as Threat
Race 4 2012 ^ | December 2, 2011 | Matt Coulter

Posted on 12/03/2011 3:12:38 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

This is really interesting:

An adviser to Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign says in a new book that the campaign was not happy to see former Godfather’s Pizza CEO Herman Cain’s campaign rocked by allegations of inappropriate behavior dating back to the 1990s.

“We didn’t want [opposition research] on him coming out. We wanted him to stay where he is. He keeps Perry down,” the anonymous aide said, referencing Texas Gov. Rick Perry.

The comments were reported in the new e-book, “The Right Fights Back,” which chronicles the 2012 Republican presidential race so far…

Even when Cain polled high, Romney never made an effort to attack him, likely because he never saw the former businessman as a real threat. On the other hand, Romney clearly sees Perry as a threat to his campaign, as evidenced by his constant attacks on the Texas governor.

Rick Perry does have all the money, organization, and endorsements that Newt Gingrich lacks. And he has been spending a lot of that money in Iowa running positive ads (in preparation for a huge negative ad campaign reportedly to be focused on Romney and Gingrich). Romney still sees something in Perry that makes him wary of the Texan.

And with Newt now approaching a national average of 40% support, and his state caucuses on fire, the money is rolling in. Thanks to all of us “one vote” folk.

It’s how elections are won or lost. The first primary is about 3 weeks away. Your candiate is running on empty for reasons beyond your control.

Thank you. It’s refreshing to see a post from someone who is intelligently looking at the candidates and issues.

I hope you will continue to look favorably at Perry.

His debate skills are not the greatest but his one on one interviews are super. Look at the difference between Perry’s performance on Brett Baier and that of Romney.

Perry was calm and affable and answered every question in a clear way with conviction. Perry has personal charm lacking in some of the others. He was great on Jay Leno the other night and he is great connecting with the people.

By the way, if Perry is paying me, I haven’t received my checks yet.

It's actually classless.

Marcus Luttrell, the Navy Cross recipient and only remaining survivor our of 20 SEALS killed in a mission is Afghanistan said Rick Perry is a man of honor and he calls him for fatherly advice or just life advice. He also loves Anita who has been like a second mother to him.

There is a video on rickpery.org of Marcus speaking about Perry and his relationship with him.

Liz, someone on a Cain thread suggested that I ask you to stop calling up your posse and spamming the Perry threads.

I have finally stopped laughing but why not?

Please stop calling up your posse and spamming the Perry threads. Your city is gone.

Hah! Ya think? I thought she was for Cain.

But I like your using terms grade school enough for them to understand.

I’m disappointed in you, Psycho. You know perfectly well that Perry has not offended any of the groups you’ve mentioned.

Has Perry offended Hispanics? Most people accuse him of catering to them.

Has he offended real conservatives? How would that be when he has a proven record on things important to conservatives, for example he has a top rating by conservative groups on abortion, gun control, pro-business positions, tort reform, to name a few.

Be careful about falling in love with Gingrich. He has much to like but just as much to be wary of. He lacks the steadfast character of Govenor Perry.

The people Perry has offended are the establishment and perhaps the in-crowd in Washington.

From Perry’s book, “Fed Up!”

“We are fed up with being overtaxed and overregulated. We are tired of being told how much salt we can put on our food, what windows we can buy for our house, what kinds of cars we can drive, what kinds of guns we can own, what kinds of prayers we are allowed to say and where we can say them, what political speech we are allowed to use to elect candidates, what kind of energy we can use, what kind of food we can grow, what doctor we can see, and countless other restrictions on our right to live as we see fit”.

“RINO”, you called Perry?

Sure thing, hotshot.

All RINOS hold those views. LOL

Some of these people have decided to transfer their mindless affection to Gingrich after losing Cain.

It’s sad.

Then the problem is in what you thought, not in what the actual truth is.

Now I know why his suits never fit! He thinks a campaign chest literally means stuffing the cash on top of his pecs!

Miss M, I can't believe you are on yet another thread checking out Perry's pecs! You are truly smitten, aren't you? He has so much more to offer. His plan for America will restore our country to greatness.

Might I suggest that one reason this campaign season has seen support swing so wildly from one candidate to another is:

Many people are making their choice based on who they think OTHER people will like/vote for/hate/think is stupid. And they pull support or denigrate a candidate, not based on the candidate’s positions or record, but because of their own personal belief in how OTHERS will react. It becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy:

“I like candidate #1’s positions, character, etc. but I don’t think others will, so I’m looking at candidate #2. Candidate #2 is now the only one who has a chance against Romney/Obama.

“Oh, and look...candidate #1’s poll numbers are going down. NOW he’s toast. He needs to get out.

“Oops, candidate #2 just had a flub. People aren’t going to like that. Uh-oh. A scandal! I think this one’s done. I’m looking at #3, now. #3’s the only one who can beat Romney/Obama.

“Oh, and look...candidate #2’s poll numbers are dropping. NOW he’s toast.”

What we need to do is have the guts to pick a candidate to support and then support that candidate. If the candidate has the stances, policies and character that best fit our own beliefs, ethos, et al we ought to pick ‘em, support ‘em and stick with ‘em. If they don’t win, they don’t win.

But to be blown about by what we THINK others might think or do is shallow in the extreme.

I’ve read and heard things like: “I think Perry is the best choice for President based on [put response here], but I don’t think he’s got a chance now. So, I’m going with [alternate who’s higher in the polls].”

I would bet that if everyone who thought Perry is the best choice actually supported Perry, there’d be a whole different look to this whole thing.

I think it’s highly likely that Newt will self-destruct because he simply cannot keep his mouth shut.

However, we won’t know till we know.

Perry is the better man.

All Perry has to do is get a significant bump or win one primary to get people looking at him again.

When they do, they’ll like what they see.

There is an unfortunate tendency to go with the perceived winner.

Such an ugly statement. It reinforces my opinion that you are congenitally incapable of communicating an intelligent thought about anything political.

*** Remember when the fangirlz declared the race over when Perry was in first place for a nanosecond? ***

Oh gaaawd, yes. They were insufferable. The, 'He's going to be the Candidate, Deal With It!' Was too much.

*** Pretty funny that Perry’s billing himself ‘the most conservative person in the race’ and can’t even beat flipper Romney as a second choice——looks like voters aint buying the snake oil Perry’s selling. ***

Yeh, Perry's the 'most conservative person in the race' who backed uber Liberal gun-grabber Rooty Julie-Annie in 2008 (LOL). And it's not only 'voter's' who aren't buying his snake oil. Perry's fellow Texans aren't buying it either. Now that's pretty bad when you can't carry your own state, as 'president' Al Gore found out ;-)

All Gore needed was to carry Tenn and he was in. Perry is n the same boat. Now he can't win a poll in Texas. When you're its Governor, that's not exactly 'good' (snicker)
