D.C. marchers rally for jobs and justice (Rev. Al and the usual suspects)
The Washington Post ^ | October 16, 2011 | Susan Svrluga and Bill Turque

Valerie Green-Thomas sees them every day in her classes at the Bronx middle school where she is a special education teacher. Kids hungry, anxious, living in the dark because the electricity in their homes has been turned off.

“I really wanted to come to this country, but I am so disappointed,” she said in her Jamaican accent. “To realize that the dream is not the dream.”

Green-Thomas was one of several thousand who rallied and marched Saturday as a prelude to Sunday’s belated dedication of the Martin Luther King Jr. National Memorial. The message of the “Jobs and Justice” event, organized by the Rev. Al Sharpton’s National Action Network along with labor and civil rights groups, was that today’s poor, unemployed and homeless embody King’s unfinished business.

Before the march to the King memorial on a radiant fall afternoon, they packed the lawn at the foot of the Washington Monument, near the Sylvan Theater, carrying signs that read “I AM A MAN” and “The rich must pay their fair share.” They demanded passage of President Obama’s $447 billion American Jobs Act. The legislation was blocked in the Senate last week.

“I’m not sure why the Republican Party has become such a mean and vicious entity in this country,” said Michael Chambers of Upper Marlboro. “People need to know — we’ve got to take to the streets, make our voices heard, turn out in sufficient numbers to get attention. If we don’t, all the things we have taken for granted will be put to the wayside. There won’t be a middle class when these folks are through — there will only be rich and poor.”

And to get media attention he’ll crawl into a plastic trash bag (a VERY LARGE one) have someone defecate on him, and say it was the KKK, GOP and Merril Lynch.

Justice is (apparently) when you work hard, and I get to take your stuff.

frigging idiots , we have been down this road before and it did not work.
Get rid of the regulations their man and his admin did and then jobs will come.

Hell even the CEO’s etc have said it is obama care and regulations which are stopping them from spreading their business.

These idiots are so frigging stupid and yet they voted for this and then still cannot grasp a simple fact that living in stench and voting the way they do is not going to get them a ajob.

It is a spending bill, and when a road is done and a bridge has been painted then what happens to the workers then?
Yes they frigging lose their jobs and what does the left want again another spending bill?

IDIOTS

Those evil conservatives running the Bronx must really be screwing things up.

The “dream” is no longer attainable when immigrants come wanting a hand out instead of a chance.

This is bullcrap. On my electric bill I pay a tax that goes to public purpose programs and they even include a pahamplet that tells you how to apply for reduced energy prices. And you can apply for food stamps the cities make it real easy for you. Life is not fair lady and if you don't like America move back to where you came from.
