Sheriffs from six Arizona counties held a press conference outside the Arizona State Capitol today. They said it was time for an independent investigation into Operation Fast and Furious.
The sheriffs represent Pinal, Cochise, LaPaz, Mohave, Greenlee, and Yavapai counties and are both Democrats and Republicans. They all agreed that it was not a partisan issue for them but rather a feeling of betrayal by the Federal government. According to the report by ABC 15 reporter Lori Jean Gliha, all the sheriffs were united in their call for an independent investigation.
"It's embarrassing to this country and me," said LaPaz County Sheriff Don Lowery. "I've spent fifty years in uniform, and it's embarrassing for me to stand before you and apologize for people that we elect."
Lowery, a Democrat, said when it comes to this case, he is not a politician and believes people should be held accountable for the case, no matter what their party affiliation is.
"If this guy (Holder) done something wrong," Lowery said, "He needs to be terminated, if he did. It needs to be investigated first."

Any one of those sheriffs would do a better job than the current occupant of the White House.
I note the Chicano sheriff of Sta. Cruz county, where the killing of ATF agent occurred, did not choose to be included. An apologist for the illegals, he stands out aat a time that Nogales is avoided as a tourist attraction and as unemployment in Nogales, AZ, now exceeds twenty percent.
I also did not note the name of Sheriff Dupnik of Tucson, that phoney excuse for a law officer. It was interesting to see that there were four Democrats and four Republicans on hand. Thank God there are some honest law enforcement types left. The dangerous situation along the border and further inland has gone well beyond political gamesplaying.
Good for these brave men.
I await the lawsuits that sue the fed for restricting the 2nd amendment rights of CA,AZ NM and TX citizens specifically.
The bogus law that says citizens of border states must be reported to the fed if they purchase more than one gun in a day.
The NRA has one already going. I personally know one of the plaintiffs.
If I’m not mistaken, the sheriff in each jurisdiction is THE top law enforcement official in the county and has the authority to tell these folks to get out of his county. Of course there would be a huge uproar from the feds but concerning states rights etc., they could make that stand. ‘Nuff is enough!
I know there are some gun shops that are suing as well, but I have not heard of any state legal action.
I suspect that is because this stupid law is toothless, since FFL sales are already reported via the NICS check.
Still, I would like to see a legal response from the states to protest border states being singled out for state specific federal restrictions.
IMHO, the regulation was primarily to set the precedent for national registration. The BATF is already maintaining a national database of information on the forms that are required when two handguns are sold to an individual within a week. This data base is claimed to be “grandfathered” into current law and not subject to the congressional ban on a national registration database.
Adding a reporting requirement for semiautomatic rifles is a logical step in the process to expand the existing database and erode congressional support for the ban on national registration.
They are making a stand.
They are holding the feds accountable.
I agree, that the new reg is another cut, in the death of 1000 cuts.
It needs to be rescinded.
If this press conference had happened 4 years ago, there would have been no end to the the media coverage of it, and criticism of the president.
But now, all we hear are birds chirping. . . . .
I would think that F&F broke the laws of the state of Arizona. Maybe the DAs of each of these counties can start inestigations..Impanel grand juries or the Arizona equivelent process. Subpoena documents and witnesses. Offer transactional immunity. Federal officials are still responsible for obeying the laws of the several states when in their jurisdiction. That’s what these sheriffs should be pursuing.
Let's get them out there and get them beating the drum for an in-depth investigation of the collusion to break U.S. and international laws leading to deaths of both U.S. and foreign nationals and law enforcement officers.
The cast of characters so far is:
1. White House
2. State Department
3. Justice Department
4. Department of Homeland Security
5. BATFE
6. FBI
7. DEA
8. ICE
9. USBP
If you have sheriffs, state AGs, and governors screaming their heads off every time they get a chance to the media, even the brain dead media might just start going, “Duhh. Maybe there's a story here?” That and the fact Sharyl Attkinson of CBS is really hammering on this. It is becoming obvious that this story has “legs” and Attkinson is shaping up as another Woodward and Bernstein figure. Then you'll see the lamestream reporters get involved to try to garner a piece of the pie as a resume enhancement.
Remember that reporters are like sharks. Once they sense political blood in the water, there with be a feeding frenzy and they will go after anyone and anything. What the Issa and Grassley committees need to do is keep bleeding the various guilty players in this drama. Play to the press and get the press. Even the stupidest among them will start to wake up.
