Freepers, I need your help.
A couple of weeks ago, I had a mini-stroke. As of this writing, I still feel horrible. I get fatigued easily (like I've read the New York Slimes )and I get constant headaches. Also, my short term memory is non-existent and my spelling has gone from lousy to it looks like Joe Biden is my editor.
Has anyone else had any experience with this ?
I assume you’re on blood thinner now.
I would bump up all antioxidants you could take. Fresh fruits, whatever you like, eat more of.
Supplement with Co-Q10, Omega 3 fish oil, Vitamin E, C and NAC (N-alpha acetyl carnosine), plus at least 5000 IU of vitamin d. I would probably add in ginseng, echinacea and goldenseal, astragalus, green tea, and acai berry supplements.
Would also use honey instead of sugar.
Prayer is good. You can always ask here for a prayer request. Lots of people will pray for you along with your own prayers.
You sound more coherent than Barack Obama.
If you’re getting headaches, you need to monitor your blood presure.
Dude, you didn’t have a mini-stroke, you have a stroke
If you haven’t gone back to the emergency room, you need to now.
For mile to moderate pain, if you take arnica montana (30c, or 200c) that can really help cut the pain without thinning your blood more like aspirin.
I know you also have to watch vitamin k intake while on thinners. You could always ask your doc if a combo of garlic, and aspirin can thin your blood as well (it would be safer than coumadin) as the coumadin.
I’m diabetic, so honey is out.
But I’m definitely going to ask about the supplements when I go to the neurologist later this month.
Of course, all prayers are gratefully accepted.
Take an 80 mg aspirin a day.
Take a 300 mg aspirin immediately after you think you may have had a stroke or heart attack.
It can lessen any damage.
So do most heroin addicts. LOL!
Prayers offered up for you, friend. Hope you feel better soon.
Are you subject to migraine head aches?
I have infrequent massive migraines. Similar after-effects to those you mention. Dr. used to think they might be mini strokes.
After episodes I have to stay in non-stressful situations, eat well, take moderate exercise (slow walks) and use natural calmatives.
Get a couple of massages, NOT deep tissue or rough ones, but maybe hot stone massage. Hydro therapy is very helpful.
Talk therapy is an option, it’s probably OK-ish.
I’ve heard acu-puncture (however that is spelled :) ) helps for some people.
Just call 911
You've still got your mind, and it looks pretty sharp from here.
I'll pray for you.
Done.
You’re strangely witty for someone who’s had a stroke.
Praying for you.
Hello I too suffer a very mild stroke back in December but thank no lingering effect except Fatigue. I was told this is normal. I remember how after being released from the hospital I notice how fatigue I would get and I would zonk out to sleepyland. I would try to fight it but I was told not to for your Brain heals as your body sleeps. I would get hit with such sleepiness and fatigue even during the daytime I had no choice but to fall asleep. I was told by someone on a forum that happens to be natural - don’t fight it - and get plenty of sleep. Now I still get sleepy but not like I use to also still get fatigued at times. I am better now, have return to work last February.
Just be patient, I know your eager to get going but give your body some time to heal itself. It went thru a dramatic situation. Rest, Sleep and let your body heal itself Thank God it was a mini one.
My husband used to get migraine headaches and started having mini-strokes at age 36. It was finally determined that the strokes were being caused by a hole in his heart, called a Petale Foramen Ovale, aka: PFO. They did open heart surgery to correct the problem and ended his migraines at the same time.
They now can correct a PFO without invasive surgery, but in his case the surgery was necessary because it turned out that he had two separate holes, one as big as a golf ball.
I take BP pills. My BP is usually around 140/90 with them and around 200/120 without them. The pills are kind of working, I guess.
