Rick Perry Accuses Obama Of Leaving Astronauts To 'Hitchhike Into Space'
ABC News ^ | July 21, 2011 | The Note, Michael Falcone

As America bids farewell to the space shuttle era on Thursday, likely presidential candidate Rick Perry appears none too pleased with the Obama administration, accusing the president of “leaving American astronauts with no alternative but to hitchhike into space.”

In a sharply worded statement issued by the governor of Texas -- the state is home to the Johnson Space Center -- Perry charges that the Obama Administration “continues to lead federal agencies and programs astray, this time forcing NASA away from its original purpose of space exploration, and ignoring its groundbreaking past and enormous future potential.”

Five or six shuttle flights to launch and repair the Hubble, right?

For the cost of those flights we could have built a second Hubble, better than the first, and sent it up on an Atlas V.

If the thread was about Perry have at it. This thread WAS NOT about Perry. It was about the space program. At least it was till you tried to highjack it.

Look at the first two words of the title of the thread and look who was posting the thread.

It was most definitely about Perry.

And along the way we learned a lot about working and repairing in space. A very valuable and useful lesson. Sometimes things work out that way.

CW, do you have some personal skin in the game here?

Careers or investments in NASA, ATK Thiokol, Lockheed Martin, or one of their subs?

I'm having a hard time interpreting your posts on the topic in any other light.

I have no conflicts of interest, I'm not employed or invested in SpaceX or any other private space firm. I'm just a taxpayer who wants to see us get back into space with the minimum amount of bureaucracy.

No. I'm an American who sees the administration dismantling America piece by piece.

You believe the blind squirrel found the one acorn.

Please, wake up.

CW, if you want to discuss the issue of manned space technology at length, rather than making it all about Obama, I'd be happy to do so.

It's my opinion (and I'm not a professional in the field, just an amateur who's read about space and followed the space program since I was a kid during the Gemini days) that the fatal flaw in the space shuttle program was the decision to build a single vehicle for both heavy lift and manned transport missions.

I think that in hindsight at least, that's not disputable.

We should not repeat that mistake. The costs of man-rating a launcher are exponential, and destroy its economic viability for unmanned payloads.

We are now making exactly the same mistake with the so-called "Space Launch System" in which the (Democrat) Senate has effectively said, we must have something that does what the Shuttle does, and uses the same kind of SRB's that the Shuttle used.

This has nothing to do with Barack Obama. What it is, is NASA scratching the back of the Democrat Senate, and the Democrat Senate scratching the backs of the big contributors who have all the current contracts with NASA.

Like I said at the top of the post, if you want to talk about this in detail, I'd be happy to do that. But if all you want to do is say "Obama bad, therefore NASA status quo must be good", then I'll give it a pass.

Name me one politician that doesn't have donors, friends, acquaintances that benefit from their being in office. \\You can't. It's almost like you don't understand politics and the way things work, anywhere.

Do I think it's totally right....no I don't and in a PERFECT world with fairies and magic rabbits running the show, we would have perfect candidates and office holders.

Let me know when you find that perfect candidate (and hurry) because I want them to run against and slaughter that F%$Ker currently in the WH.

In the mean time, I've looked at the field (it sucks) and Perry is #1 on my list.(although I will support whoever gets in *maybe*)

BTW: as you know, I've heard, read and researched all there is to know about Perry, so you can spare me the long-winded responses.

I believe Zackry (SA based) Is building the continuation of SH 130 toll and maybe the I69 in east Texas.

I railed against the TTC when it was seen as a land grab and the basic route for Mexican trucks. I had friends and people I knew who were ready to start a shooting war to prevent the state/foreigners from taking thier land.

We stopped it dead but, as you see with the Mexican trucks, only stalled that issue. There's is and will be a need for necessary roadway improvement here in Texas.

Funny though that an eminent domain bill was signed into law as of late.

Perry is much better. He actually does have proven Executive experience and a solid record of running the third largest Economy in the USA. And also holds first place in Exports and is also at the top of the list in job growth.

I agree. he takes a lot of grief for extensive traveling on the taxpayer’s dime but, much of it is business related, helping Texas grow and prosper. A gaining valuble experience that will come in handy later on.

Thx for the *positive* remarks, not getting a lot of those regarding Gov. Perry.
