I think it is a bad political strategy for conservatives to attack Donald Trump this early in the game. The conservative media, many conservative blogs, the liberal media and Freepers are going after Trump for his ideological inconsistencies.
The liberal media will use all its powers to destroy ANY GOP candidate for president. That is a given. They want Barack Obama re-elected, even if the entire country is collapsing around them and regardless if the GOP candidate was as spotless as Jesus Christ.
But, conservatives are going after Trump also.
This early in the game that is a bad strategy for us and here are the reasons:
Donald Trump, out of every GOP candidate out there, has the most power to do the most harm to Barack Obama and weaken him as a candidate for re-election.
Donald Trump doesn't fear the liberal media like the other candidates. He is willing to go every MSM media outlet and tell the truth about Barack Obama.
Donald Trump doesn't mince words about Obama and isn't afraid of the race card. Trump doesn't talk in weasley politico-speak like most of the others.
Donald Trump has the most power out of all the candidates to nip a Romney or Huckabee candidacy in the bud.
Donald Trump is willing to use his own money to go after Barack Obama and the liberals, saving conservatives hundreds of millions of dollars in campaign contributions and ads for media. I think we conservatives under-estimate the power of free media that we get with Donald Trump's attacks on Barack Obama and his policies.
Every time we conservatives attack Donald Trump that gives the liberal media sound bites to destroy Donald Trump and his message, which is to get Barack Obama out, and it gives ammunition for Romney and Huckabee to go after Trump in the early primaries and debates.
Donald Trump isn't beholden to any GOP establishment money or establishment players who would give us Romney, who really is no better than a McCain or Bob Dole when it comes to winning a general election.
With all that being said, conservatives have every right to criticize Donald Trump for his intellectual and ideological inconsistencies, and I would never in a million years want to censor anybody for their beliefs, but RIGHT NOW, Donald Trump just being out there with his message against Obama helps us in the long run, especially before the primaries begin.
We have almost a year until the primaries begin and having Donald Trump attacking Barack Obama day after day in the media doesn't hurt conservatives, but makes it more difficult for Obama to win.
Whatever one thinks of Trump, I think it is imperative that we have somebody on our side who is willing to take the fight to other side and fight hard and point out the weaknesses, incompetence and their destruction of the US.
I am not a Trump true believer and welcome debate on this issue and would like to hear from people about the holes in my argument and their concerns.
he would also make a better friend then enemy.
I’m not dissing him. I say go for it! As long as he’s tooting the ineligibility horn I’m on his side. Any other issue, well, that’s to be seen.
I don’t think Donald the RINO is exempt - I appreciate that he goes after 0bama since many of Trump’s TV fans are liberals but he is too far left to adequately represent conservative interests.
um donald trump is attacking obama— why would you attack someone who’s attacking your enemy?? there is a time and a place for that— the guy hasn’t even announced he’s running for prez. until then let him attack obama all he wants— why trash him??
Trump takes crap for daring to speak about the BC, but I enjoy listening to his views on the economy and global issues. In a debate he would run circles around the community organizer. Likewise, Herman Cain.
I agree. Trump is very useful to us. I support what he’s doing, I do not expect to support him for president.
I’m sorry but Donald Trump is not on our side. Anyone who thinks so is fooling themselves.
I agree. Have you seen how low Obama’s poll ratings are lately? Part of that is the “Trump Effect”.
Let’s hope that Trump will do to Obama what Pat Buchanan did to Poppy Bush in 1991 - that is substantially weaken him for the GOP to beat him in 2012.
Agree 100%. Thanks.
Qualification #1 is willingness to savagely attack Obama over and over.
Only 2 meet this entry-level requirement. Trump is one.
And you think Donald Trump is okay with just being our useful idiot? He’s okay with you liking him now but not supporting him if he ran? I think this ‘he’s useful now’ stuff’ is dangerous. Freepers may like him now because he’s hammering Obama, but what happens if he runs and gets the nomination or worse runs third party? He’s no conservative. Might not be as bad as Obama but are we really going to settle for that?
Anyone who takes on Obama is on my side. There is only one Republican that does so and she isn’t running yet.
We don't need any pantie waists or sugar britches going up against Barry.
And if we pick to support another, the Donald will go Independent and make it very hard to choose.
Trump thinks we need tariffs while he makes no mention of less government control, less government spending and lower taxes.
Sounds like more of the same big government nonsense to me.
I will happily settle for a Trump win over a Palin loss. I won’t lose a second of sleep over that decision. I’m conservative but not to the point where I would allow Obama to win a second term just so I could say I supported the most right wing conservative candidate available.
The big reasons for not attacking Trump is you can’t “take it back” and providing fodder for the Dem media.
As a lifelong conservative I don't give a hoot about what you think. There are NO "ideological inconsistencies" in Trump. He is a lifelong liberal. His recent conversions at CPAC2011, just two months ago in February, can not be taken seriously by principled conservatives, or by anyone in their RIGHT mind..
Trump is a charlatan and giving him the benefit of the doubt, or defending his 30 year public record in support of liberalism, is not consistent with FRee Republic. Its always been open season on liberals around this forum --- Democrat, Republican, Independent, Socialist, Libertarian, Reformer, whatever! I don't see that changing.
An additional reason to support Trump now, regardless of how any one of us might choosed to vote, is his candidacy puts terrific pressure on the GOP estblishment to come up with somebody, acceptable to the Tea Party, who can take on Trump and beat him in the primaries. That will require a pit bull who will attack the Illegal as hard as Trump is attacking him, IMHO either Rick Perry or Chris Christie.
