What has happened to Queen Ann? She was on Hannity and rips into Trump about the Birther issue that she says has been proved beyond any doubt. Claims the Cirt of Live Birth is the same as BC and basically calls him a kook. Why not at least support him in the slightest?
Then she states the big money donors are holding their funds waiting for Christie to run and if he doesn't then they will give it to Romney. What big donor is hoping Christie would run and win? Does she have any idea where he is polling 1%?
Then she doesn't give the time of day to Palin or Bachmann. Just not getting what she sees?

Ann Coulter has always sneered at the birth certificate issue. She might want to be careful about hitting on The Donald too hard. He has no compunction about getting down in the mud with you and rolling around. Ask Rosie O’Donnell.
Coulter has her niche and she stays neatly in it. She does a lot of good attacking the other side so I try to ignore her attitude toward the BC.

Ann doesn’t even know the basics:
1. A Certificate of Live Birth is NOT equivalent to a BC.
2. The newspaper listings (as far as I’ve found they are only on microfilm at the National Archive and Hawaiian state library) could have been placed by a family member. Was typical of many natives to be born at home and then listed.
3. The state of Hawaii allows for BCs to be issued to those “born without the state or territory.”
4. The media stated a COLB wouldn’t do for Trump and demanded the long form BC, which Trump provided.
5. Obama may very well not be a NBC because his father was a British subject, which those on the left don’t dispute.
6. Obama has a long list of records we’ve never seen — school records, medical, passport, etc.
Ann hasn’t done her homework. Very disappointing.
She doesn’t say they are kooks, she just says that she believes they are wrong. And even if she said they were kooks, so freaking what? Does that mean everything she’s ever done, said or written is null and void?

Anyone tracked down the newspapers in Chicago from the mid-90s? MSM never vetted Obama. Might be some surprises out there to be found. State championship in basketball might have led to a profile of the team in Hawaii.
The Eligibility issue is the political equivalent of MAD - Mutually Assured Destruction.
When it blows Ann takes a serious hit, just like every politician, judge, party official and every media/news person.
There are no winners within the establishment with this issue at this point. The conservative talking heads, the Republicans all had their chance in 2008. They blew it. Now they are trying to hold on until 2012. Obama knows it. So he and Holder just hunker down in their bunker hoping this will ‘blow over’.
The establishment wants nothing to do with this. Just like in 1973 no one wanted anything to do with Watergate - even the Democrats.

The conundrum with the birther issue is that there are (1) the merits of the actual question of natural born citizenship and (2) the problem that there apparently is no procedure for verifying eligibility, and then being able to challenge findings and remedy a procedural violation.
Also, the birther issue is a proxy for all the skepticism people have about how non-American, culturally, this President is.
All this is to say that, as a POLITICAL ANALYST (which is what Anne holds herself out as), it’s simply rather misses the point to address the birther issue as if all it is about (politically speaking) is a birth certificate.
I think one of the pragmatic problems with the birther issue is that it seems likely to lead to a substantial third-party wave, which would not be enough to elect that candidate, but which would be enough to re-elect Obama. Seems to me that’s the reason it has many reacting strongly.
There’s a fear that, regardless, it may cause Obama’s re-election by splitting the non-Liberal vote.

I never did care for her. I’ve always thought she was overly bombastic.
However, this thread demonstrates post after post the exact behavior that comes back to bite conservatives in the ass time and time again. Someone like Coulter can’t be wrong, or mistaken. Never anything so benign. At the slightest disagreement, she falls from idol to absolute scum.
If I thought I had a chance at ever being POTUS, I sure as Hell’s Bells wouldn’t want to run this year either. It is going to be a political zoo and head-case beyond all belief. Just running against Obama guarantees that the race will be held in the political Twilight Zone.

Exactly, at one time Ann was the only one with stones enough to speak out. Now we have candidates more conservative than she is, so what is she protecting and why isn’t she helping get our people elected? I like Christie but he really isn’t any more qualified or conservative than Rudy.

From what I’ve been learning, pretty much anyone who’s moved to Hawaii from somewhere else can get a Hawaiian COLB on request. Not so with a bonafide birth certificate. Also, it doesn’t have as much specific information on it as a “long form” BC.
Maybe some of the other, more knowledgeable folks on here can help with this.

In the end, none of that is actually relevant to the "birther" issue -- in terms of what it *means* politically (and any political analyst should pick up on this fact) --- because the "birther" issue is about so much more than a birth certificate. It's even more than about whether Obama is a natural-born citizen.
The "birther" issue is the tagline for a huge, and deep and pervasive, skepticism about this President IN GENERAL. If Obama didn't have one million other things about him that were so non-American --- including the fact that he doesn't THINK like an American AT ALL --- the "birther" issue would have never gone on and on as it has.
For a political analyst, such as Ann Coulter, to sit there and jawbone about a birth certificate --- and never understand that the POLITICAL SIGNIFICANCE of the "birther" issue is so much more than whether a birth certificate is the same thing as a certificate of live birth --- is just malpractice and inexcusable.
What these people need to be looking at is WHY such a supposedly wacky issue has taken root and won't die? Only then can they offer an opinion as to whether the "birther" issue (again, which is simply a proxy for distrusting this president all the way around) is a political loser or not.
Why can't Ann simply say the "birther" issue, for one thing (i.e., regardless of the merits) is a powerful expression of a powerful distrust of this man and the process that elected him?
