Representative Peter King will chair a hearing Thursday on radicalization within the American Muslim community. Doing so has stirred a nest of leftist hornets. The ACLU, along with several other "civil rights organizations," have "warned" King to refrain from examining religious beliefs. A number of threats against King have necessitated additional security. And critics are tripping over themselves to craft the most hyperbolic comparisons to Joseph McCarthy.
However, such comparisons have the potential to backfire, at least among those with an accurate perception of history. The Washington Post's Ruth Marcus took a reasoned stance Wednesday.
Certainly, the best evidence against King is King. His manner is blustering verging on crude. His language has been loose, crossing the border to offensive(...)Marcus rightly draws a distinction between the man and his argument. The same must be done with McCarthy who, despite his methods, was correct regarding the infiltration of communists throughout American institutions. At the same time, it is a parody of political correctness to argue that a hearing on domestic terrorism cannot focus solely on the Muslim community to be acceptable.
McCarthyism has morphed from a term that once described a specific pathology, into a verbal club that is used to invoke cloture on politically correct subjects. In fact, the rightful criticism of McCarthy is that his theatrics and personal foibles ultimately thwarted a wholly necessary campaign against domestic enemies of the Constitution. Those enemies survived him...

Venona papers. Look ‘em up. Joe was right.
I only hope King is as successful as McCarthy in exposing anti-American vermin.

Meet Dr. Zuhdi Jasser, Star Witness in Peter King’s Anti-Muslim Show Trial
http://news.yahoo.com/s/thenation/20110308/cm_thenation/159088
Although Representative Peter King (R-NY) hasnt officially announced the witness list for Thursdays hearing on The Extent of Radicalization in the American Muslim Community and that Communitys Response, a leaked list confirms that his star witness will be Dr. Zuhdi Jasser. An Arizona physician and founder of the nonprofit American Islamic Forum for Democracy, Jasser is a favorite in the cottage industry created to hype the threat of creeping Sharia law. Hes frequently presented as a representative ofand advocate fortrue moderate Islam.
Unlike more wild-eyed anti-Muslim agitators like Frank Gaffney (with whom Jasser has collaborated) and Pamela Geller, Jasser comes across as calm, sober and professional. He gained notoriety in 2008, with the release of the Clarion Fund film The Third Jihad, which claimed that a fifth column of Muslim extremists have infiltrated America with the intent of establishing a theocratic state. The star of the film, Jasser helped promote the claim that has ricocheted all over the rightthat a single document written by a lone Muslim Brotherhood member in the early 1990s proves that American Muslim charities and advocacy groups are part of a plot to subvert the Constitution and America and install an Islamic theocracy.
More recently, Jasser made an appearance in Newt Gingrichs 2010 documentary, America At Risk: The War With No Name, produced by Citizens United, the conservative group whose efforts to air its antiHillary Clinton documentary led to the Supreme Court decision allowing unlimited corporate money in campaigns. The release of the film roughly coincided with the Geller-created hysteria over Park51, as well as with Gingrichs own calls to ban Sharia, warning of a comprehensive political, economic and religious movement that seeks to impose shariaIslamic lawupon all aspects of global society. The film is notably anti-Obama. (Just last week, Gingrich launched a presidential campaign exploratory committee.)
Joe was Right— and the “progressives “ hate him to this day-and prefer to raise up images of communist dupes as their icons. I pray that America will not allow the Left do to Mr.King what it was allowed do to Joe McCarthy.
