What went wrong with the Whitman campaign?
Examiner.com ^ | 11/3/2010 | Joe Alfieri

In the springtime, strategists for Meg Whitman in her campaign for governor of California probably felt they’d died and gone to heaven in. In a state roiled in political in-fighting, effectively bankrupt, and a political atmosphere in which the electorate was sharpening pitchforks and boiling tar, you had a non-political woman, an internet legend, immensely successful, running as a moderate Republican, which all the pundits agree is the only way for Republicans to get elected in California. Meg Whitman, the first female billionaire in fact, with all the private money available one could ever hope to spend. And the opponent? Laughable, really. A former two-term governor who earned the moniker “Governor Moonbeam” for outlandish ideas, who turned the state’s large surplus into large deficit, raised taxes, and left it with a (then) record unemployment rate and a shrinking economy.

Be careful what you ask for, Californian’s leaving the state have been responsible for turning a lot of former red states purple.

Some pigs just love to wallow in garbage. CA, NY, MA to name a few state filled with wallowing pigs.

Stand back and be amused.

LOL!!! So true, and the younger generation doesn’t know any better. At one time.. when my hair was longer, I thought Brown was cool, simply because he dated Linda Rondstat. But his “coolness” is now like an old hippie’s : nonexistant.

Oops - it seems they allowed it to immigrate and establish its self already

She should have put out the housekeeper story a year ago - allowing that to drop so close to the election was a momentum shifter...

Meg wasn’t the perfect candidate, but she at least had the business skills, and is reported to be tough as nails in negotiating. She’d have to be better than Brown. Hell, my cat would be better than Brown.

“I wonder how Whitmans husband and daugters are feeling about the $165 million that mom flushed down the toilet with her stupid campaign. She needs to find a hobby.”

If that was her money, they have no claim on it. Not to mention the fact that her family is not going to miss it, anyway.

Whitman is a democrat. She’s a mole, a stalking horse. They both are on the same team, fellow travelers. If the moron leftist Brown didn’t win, it goes to plan B, Whitman. Same heading, all ahead half.

Good god, she proclaimed herself “a huge fan” of Van Jones, communist...What so called conservative likes communists? WTH?

I sure hope you’re wrong. But at the same time, I’m looking into the rates on moving vans.

The problem wasn’t Meg. It was Kalifornia. It’s a lost cause and its good that she won’t be around to blame when it collapses under an avalanche of debt.

And some want Mitt....as the '12 POTUS candidate????

If the GOP machine wants him.....they will lose.

And I will continue to believe there are bigger and larger issues..forming and guiding American politics.

I wondered about that myself today. They must have thought “there’s goes my inheritance”. And for what? Kalifornia does not deserve Whitman.

At least Mitt still has his 12 million dollar house in La Jolla (San Diego), unfortunately, it is now only worth about half that.

The problem wasn’t Meg.

Meg Whitman campaigned on a pro-abortion, anti-gun platform.

She should have tried to have helped that Hispanic girl get her papers, instead of firing her.

I don't think an illegal that has falsified papers to indicate legal residency would have any success getting real papers.

You can't win at the top if there is no base. We have a small base and it is unable to reach into the LA/SF area. It takes years to build, The public must see them as lame and dishonest.

I disagree. arnie acted like Christie/Rudy but in real life proved to be a wimpy girlie man who couldn’t take on the unions and rqhe deem legislators.
Meg has real world experience and likely wouldn’t have blinked so quickly.
