When über liberal Hollywood director James Cameron had a global box office hit back in 1997 with his epic depiction of the 1912 sea disaster, I doubt he thought the name Titanic would later become synonymous with the most left-wing presidency in American history. Thirteen years on, instead of Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet clinging for dear life, its now Obamas desperate White House team struggling for survival, but without the CGI effects.
Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel is well ahead of the curve by jumping ship today before the November mid-terms, and who can blame him. The Obama presidency is likely heading for a massive humiliation at the polls in less than five weeks time and Emanuel wont be the last to jump. He will now run for mayor of Chicago, arguably the third most powerful position in American city government after mayor of New York and mayor of Los Angeles, and will be replaced, for the interim at least, by low-key Obama aide and former Tom Daschle staffer Pete Rouse. For an insight into Rouses background, see The Washington Posts profile here.
There is no doubt that political ambition is a major factor in Emanuels decision to exit Washington, but the stunning decline of the Obama presidency must also have played a key role in his thinking. With Barack Obama increasingly seen as a liability within his own party, and just 37 percent of Americans saying they are more likely to vote for a candidate if backed by the president, nerves are clearly fraying inside the White House with the prospects for re-election in 2012 looking increasingly bleak.
We are likely to see an exodus of key White House staff after November, with many seeking the safer confines of K Street lobbying firms or liberal think tanks. Rahm

Great post.

I hate to tell these clymers this, but Congressional subpeonas can be delivered anywhere. Oh yeah, one more thingy, lying under oath is still a felony unless your name is Clinton. So bail at will, but realize the paper trail will find you. Two glorious years of cutting spending and investigation coming at you. Should be fun watching the intelligent elite avoid jail.
Once again, you have to read the foreign press to know what’s going on in Washington.
This will be interesting since he has NOT held residence there for over a year and state law requires that anyone running for mayor be a resident for no less then 1 year.
You gotta chase yer dreams....
Why do I feel all slimey whenever a picture of Rahm appears in front of me? My skin crawls just thinking about this thug.
O has a tendency to throw people under the bus when the heat gets too hot.
Glad to know Major League Adam Clymer is still immortalized here. Thank you G.W.
About that hole that’s sinking the boat, Ballet-boy brought the blow torch.
SO LET IT BE WRITTEN, SO LET IT BE DONE!!!
It reminds me of the movie, “The Firm.” Tom Cruise, whose politics I abhor, but whose acting isn’t too bad, such as “The Firm” and “A Few Good Men,” could NOT get out of The Firm except by running off and escaping from the firm. Rahm made his escape by pretending to have a good reason; i.e., running for Mayor of Chicago. Rumor has it that he is not a legal resident of Illinois, and unless he is given a pass, cannot be on the ballot. FWIW.
You know as well as I do that laws don't apply to democrats.
In his parting speech to 0bama, Rahm should have just physically shown 0bama that HE was the MASTER at BENDING OVER (by inserting his head all the way UP) rather than verbally demonstrating so eloquently to the masses his verbal mouth lathering and mouth watering lip service to his MASTER!
RIGHT!!! and wonder what judges he owns in Chicago.
