Once again we see Islam being brought into the workplace. Today we learn that Minnesota Vikings safety Husain Abdullah, has decided that fasting and playing at a lower level, is more important than giving it his all for the team.
Even while sprinting in the heat and humidity during drills, sometimes in full pads, Abdullah is adamant about his faith. He will not allow himself so much as a cup of water until the sun sets and before it rises.
“I’m putting nothing before God, nothing before my religion,” Abdullah said. “This is something I choose to do, not something I have to do. So I’m always going to fast.

kind of - but like that other guy said, since Sandy wasn’t an everyday player and the holidays are jsut single days, it was easy to work around them. I wonder if he even bothered to show up to the park on Yom Kippur?

It being a desert religion there’s always exceptions. Then of course technology, little bit of water retention pills along with a lot of water before sunrise and he’s good to go. I think it’s a sign of how boring this off season is that this is even a story, Brett’s being fairly quiet, nobody is getting out of jail, nobody seems to be on their way to jail, but there still needs to be NFL stories for ESPN.

I thought of Olajuwon when I read this. I have always respected Hakeem and admired his commitment to his faith. If all Muslims were like Hakeem, we wouldn’t be having these problems.

Ohhhhh, never thought of that.
September 9th is the last day of Ramadan, the Vikes open the season that night so there might be a couple of minutes of overlap but basically it’ll be done. If the Vikes weren’t opening the season he’d have a couple of days but they’re in the Thursday night opener.
