If Reagan were alive and in his right mind today, he’d be in favor of the Arizona law. He tried the whole amnesty thing and found it didn’t work. I very much doubt he would have ever done it again.
Anyone who claims to not know what Reagan would thing is either being obtuse or is genuinely stupid.
For one thing, Reagan would have secured the border.
Having done that, Arizona would not have to be dealing with it.
As with most things, the cause and solution to a problem do not always appear directly related.
What’s the best way to end illegal immigration? A fence? Possibly. Ending the welfare state? Most definitely!
I wrecked a car in Germany and had to produce my papers. I guess the Germans profile blond hair, blue eyed people now...
undocumented immigrants....and drug dealers are unlicensed pharmacists...
Being in this country without documentation is illegal, this was so long before this law.
Reagan wouldn’t have let it get this far and considering what happened to his limited amnesty, I suspect he would start with building a fence and making life harder for the illegals.
The only alternative is to appeal to Americans as AMERICANS, regardless of color, who have the same basic interests. That is what Reagan did so successfully.
Widespread illegal immigration and cheapened citizenship are NOT in the typical American's interests. Heaven above, its not that hard to figure out.
I like my amnesty plan!
Please call them INVADERS and dont compare them to people who are legal aliens!
IF you aid and abet CRIMINALS, you are a criminal!
It should be made a felony for Criminals who overstay their visas or just Invade.
I believe we should give amnesty to these poor CRIMINALS or INVADERS.
This should be a 2 week amnesty to get the heck out of our Country.
The ones who ignore this amnesty should be buried in a tent city jail and fined $10,000 or buried elsewhere.
All aiders and abettors of these CRIMINALS or INVADERS should get 1 year in a tent city jail and a $10,000 fine for each CRIMINAL aided.
Those in government should be the first ones charged.
This is a fake controversy.
Foreign visitors in any country in the world are required to carry their passport and ID. And produce it on demand. And you will be asked to show it frequently.
And in latin american countries even citizens must carry their national ID card, and you don’t leave home without it. They know that. American press monkeys may not know that, but anyone who has traveled knows that and Mexicans know that.
Wow this author managed to pack two big lies into one little sentence:
Lie #1: "law that criminalizes undocumented immigrants"...
The truth is that undocumented immigrants are already criminals in that they committed a crime by crossing the border illegally and they continue to commit a crime by violating a 1940's federal immigration law. This law simply made it also a violation of state law to violate the federal law in the state of Arizona.
Lie #2: "and allows for the profiling of Latinos ..."
The truth is that the law specifically forbids any profiling of Latinos or any other race. Latinos may not be stopped or pulled over for being Latino. And if a Latino is pulled over or stopped for reasonable cause on a traffic violation or in suspicion of some crime, the officer may not inquire as to legal resident status on the basis of the suspect being Latino, but must have reasonable suspicion based on a combination of one or more of several specific conditions that are defined in the law as a basis for such reasonable suspicion.
It would seem that the author of the article is just a liar.
Well let’s see....the Arizona law actually is not a great deal different from federal law. Unfortunately that federal law is not ENFORCED!! So what would Reagan think about enforcing a federal law which would save the money, property and LIVES of taxpayers? Gee, now THAT’S a tough one!!
Ping!
Reagan might say we should have enforced the tough immigration laws that were passed along with amnesty. The laws were to keep this situation from happening- amnesty was supposed to be a one-time fix. Border security and strict immigration laws were supposed to keep illegals from being able to simply hike across the border and get a job and social services.
What happened to enforcing the tough immigration laws? Liberals thought the laws were just too harsh so they were ignored or very selectively applied.
