Sean Hannity Calls His Fans “Tim McVeigh Wannabes”
Mediaite ^

Posted on 04/01/2010 12:57:54 PM PDT by AlanD

Earlier this week, Fox News host Sean Hannity broadcast his eponymous show Hannity from the Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley. Towards the end of the show, Hannity made a rather startling claim that conservatives won the debate regarding health care. Perhaps more startling, or more to the point, unsettling, was his facetious labeling of his fans as “Tim McVeigh wannabes.”

Hannity’s full quote can be viewed in the video below, but he says “I think we won the debate… When you think of the vast majorities that they have in Congress and they had to bribe, backroom deals, corruption. That’s all because the Tea Party movement, the people, all these Tim McVeigh wannabes here.”

Clearly this is in reference to criticism on the left that the pitched rhetoric from conservatives might lead to violence. To be fair, right of center pundits have made similar claims.

And while Hannity uses the term “Tim McVeigh Wannabes” to deride criticisms with which he disagrees, to casually invoke the name of Timothy McVeigh, a domestic terrorist found guilty for killing 168 innocent citizens (some of which were babies) is rather reprehensible. Or put another way, if Hannity doesn’t like the McVeigh reference, he shouldn’t use it himself.

Oh geez.

The “how dare you use that name” argument.

I wasn’t aware comparing people to McVeigh was off the table.

Especially when it’s a purely facetious remark (AS NOTED IN THE ARTICLE!), meant as a jab at liberals who like to invoke that very name.

Naw, not really it’s just lies, like Obama who lies about everything ...

SEAN SAID THAT LIBERALS THINK OF ALL CONSERVATIVES AS Tim McVey wanna bees. Just a little missing context will help a lot.

You need to see yourself as others see you ... Unlike our two-bit tin pot dear reader in the white house who sees himself as dictator for life, Sean is honest.

Ah, our resident moderate speaks up again....

It’s simple: if the left wants to try to slur us by painting us as mass-murderers in waiting, then we have the right to object to that slander, using sarcasm if need be.

To cave in to the left on this is to cave in on all fronts. Don’t let them throw out insults without response.

Jeez....I watched it and the reference to Timothy McVeigh was CLEARLY a joke. Sean was looking out at his soccer mom, working folk audience when he said it. ugh.
The left spin is beyond retarded. (yes I said the R word!)

This is a real head-scratcher.

Sean's not bright, but I suspect you are even less so.

I agree. He is a bit better on his TV show but I feel as if I am in a verbal Irish bar fight when I listen to him on the radio.

I swear some of you FReepers are so dense. You’ll swallow anything withoug looking.

A quick check and I found this:

“We’ve got veterans, we’ve got stay-at-home moms, people who really don’t like the direction of the country. They’re speaking out and they’ve been compared to terrorists, Tim McVeigh-wannabes. They’ve been called un-American. They’ve been called every name in the book. Now, the latest attack is that these people are violent,” he said.

Hannity was mocking MSM in this clip. MSM has labeled T Party members and conservatives as “Tim McVeigh Wannabees” Anyone who listens to Hannity knows exactly what he was saying.

I believe he wasn’t being flippant at all,
but pointing out the absurdity of the left (Juan Williams)
saying that the Tea Party is full of T McVeighs.

“Gadsden flag is McVeigh symbolism”

Okay. Here goes:

“Sean Hannity, I hereby call you out, because some people are too dense to recognize when you are being sarcastic!”

How was that?

Which should be obvious by the article using “facetious” - and yet, the irony of that is lost on the author, who gets bent out of shape over Hannity using “that name”.

I agree with that take. On television, he’s bearable, but his radio show is sloppy.

Precisely.

Sean overuses both sarcasm and talking points.

“I suspect that he
Was mocking the media
That trades in such slurs.”

I heard it, that’s exactly what he was doing. Now, Hannity, be like Levin and start nailing McCain!
