I have done my own research into the Battle of Athens, Tennessee, 1946, and even traveled to Athens, Tennessee, for that research. The following are the pristine examples of a fight for freedom that I uncovered from my research:

Does anyone doubt that Obama, Pelosi, Reid, Axlerod, Emanuel no longer recognize the natural rights of Americans.
The Battle of Athens needs to be taught in school as much or more than the Battle of Bunker Hill. When coruption in government met its match and the will of a free people once again over threw tyranny!

It gets very little attention in the history books, if any. I’d also love to see a major motion picture and documentaries and such about the black members of Congress just after the Civil War. Even though they failed to stop the Jim Crow and segregation policies they should still be counted as heroes.
And the black writer George S Schuyler. heh.
I wonder why Hollywood and the media don’t spend any time on them?? /s
I live here in Athens, TN.
Just thought I would let you know that we have a very active TEA Party group here. We have 100-150 that come every week to our meetings.
A lot of us have gone to DC several times and we even have a group that can leave with 2 hours notice.
Farmers are now blogging, housewives are now reading Pravda and Der Spiegel every day. Grandmothers are now calling their Senators and taking Constitution classes.
We belong to the party of KNOW.
A great place to live in an exciting time in history.
The Scouring of the Shire.
The difference is with today’s close partnership of local and federal law enforcement the Feds would have sided with the local “authorities”, rounded up the GI’s, charged them under Rico act. The Feds would have supported the institutions they refused earlier to investigate. What is not different is that the LEO’s primary job is to protect the institutions that pay them, not the public that hired them. so again I say that if push comes to shove LEO will not be on your side when they come to get your guns.
God bless you, brother. With God's help we will overcome the fasciast tyrany of our government + the propagandizing main stream media.

Yeah, and where the hell is the great patriot Glenn Beck when Athens Tennessee`s history needs to be publicized so badly?????
Now there's a bumper sticker/t-shirt/rallying cry slogan!!!
"We in the U.S.A., who have long boasted that, in our political life, freedom in the use of the secret ballot made it possible for us to register the will of the people without the use of force, have had a rude awakening as we read of conditions in McMinn County, Tennessee, which brought about the use of force in the recent primary. If a political machine does not allow the people free expression, then freedom-loving people lose their faith in the machinery under which their government functions.
Can anyone say "CARD CHECK!" ?
Glenn does a lot .... a very lot ... but just like you ...... he cant be everywhere and do everything .............. Call him and inform him.
Thanks for posting this story.
There was a similar situation in Phenix City, AL although the corruption was on a larger and more entrenched scale, at least that is my impression.
The crooks were eventually thrown out again by a returning WWII vet. His Father was murdered by them and fortunately the Governor eventually joined with the good guys and declared martial law.
The troops literally went in and were burning gambling machines etc. in the streets.
My grandfather, a WW1 veteran, was born in McMinn County. His grandfather was born on a farm near Knoxville and joined the Confederate 3rd Tennessee Cavalry to protect his parents and sisters from the Washington government illegal aggression.
There’s a movie about it, THE PHENIX CITY STORY. Hard-hitting docudrama from the 50’s, still worth seeing.
There should be a movie about the Athens uprising. Very WALKING TALL, but for real.
I live in Athens also. Is the Tea Party planning to get involved in the local elections later this year ?
That would be a good place to start cleaning up the local political scene.
When and where does the Tea Party meet ?
That one was a helluva story, it involved one of the state’s highest officeholders. Albert Patterson was running for Attorney General, opposed to the corruption and vice in Phenix City. When Patterson won the Dem nomination over the corrupt ring, he was promptly assassinated. Supposedly the sitting Attorney General, Si Garrett, was behind the hit (if not gave the order). Garrett left office before his term expired and had himself put in a nervous hospital, and was apparently never charged. Patterson’s son, John, was the WW2 and Korean Vet, and he stepped into his father’s shoes and was given the AG nomination slot and won the job. Four years later, he beat George Wallace for Governor in 1958. Patterson is still alive today at 88.
this also happened in Texas too...I remember reading About it...
It is my understanding that the original “Walking Tall” was based on real events tho I am sure they took some dramatic license tho I don’t know for sure.
I have not seen the more recent one but have been told it is basically nonsense.
I used to know some IRS agents who worked Phenix City in the old days. They had some good war stories to tell.
I also had some brief dealings with Gov. John Patterson who was the good guy in the Phenix City Story. A very personable lawyer who was something of a hero.
