"Hollywood, STFU." reviews "Avatar"
Hollywood, STFU ^ | 2009/12/20 | Hollywood, STFU

All I can say is, “WOW”.

“Avatar” is a 3-D feast for the eye which should propel James Cameron to the status of legend. In fact, after a decade or two of perspective, I fully expect that this groundbreaking work will be studied in the best film schools, right about the time they are covering Riefenstahl.

Seldom has a film been made which combines cutting edge technology, the highest standards of quality, and a deep, self-indulgent loathing of all things which The Left despises about America. I honestly don't remember the last time I found myself booing and hissing at a film as the end credits started rolling.

Most will go to see it for the 3-D effects. Reread Miloh’s comments about it. How do I know it promotes anti-Americanism in the movie if I don’t see it myself?

I no longer just ‘take someone elses words’ for the truth.
That’s what the “Hope and Change followers did”.

Hollywood is going to make a variety of movies. Some good, some bad. Some Leftist, some not. As you say: "You have to make your own decisions about things".

My own two cents: If I give the studios $10 in order to "find out" if these people are promoting an anti-American viewpoint, after I find out that they are (if they are), then it is too late and they've got my funds.

My personal attitude is that withholding my money from questionable movies is the way I want to go. Your mileage may vary.

If we only watched what ‘conservatives’ had to say, what would we learn from that?

You act as if there's an actual *Conservative* entity in Hollywood, in the same way that there's a *Liberal* entity in Hollywood. Almost ALL of what comes out of Hollywood is Liberal. So what's this "if we only watched what Conservatives had to say" nonsense? With rare exception, in Hollywood, it's ALL Liberal, ALL the time.

And if you don't go see some “questionable movies” because you relied on others opinions, you may miss out on some good things.

I read here all day, every day, and I know from experience that there are MANY erroneous statements posted, MANY! If I relied on all I read from others I could be misled.

You somehow missed the topic of conversation in the comment you are replying to.

THIS was the topic that was posted to me;
[Does it bother you when people complain about liberal bias in the news?]

Liberal bias in the news is not about Hollywood movies. I think in terms of news on TV or the newspapers.

Same amount of Liberal bias there, too - since all the media are controlled by Liberals.

Can anyone name ONE THING that is not controlled by the Liberals??

You've got movies, television, music, books, theater, newspapers, radio (apart from a few Conservative hosts), religious denominations, universities, etc etc, that are all Liberal. Name ONE THING that isn't controlled by the Liberals.

Me. I may have to pay taxes and obey laws, but they can’t control my mind. My mind is free.

Talking about one thing when my comments were about another isn’t moving the conversation forward.

So after seeing Moyers' liberal bias, you worked to have his show removed.

Isn't that a little like burning books (according to your logic)?

In other words, how is people objecting to Avatar different than your objecting to Moyers? In both cases it's people reacting, justifiably, to noxious liberal bias. And in the case of Avatar it's even worse because it will be influencing an international audience. They come for the special effects and end up getting a big dose of anti-Americanism.

It's hard to fathom why this doesn't bother you. My impression is that you just haven't thought it through very well.

Our minds may be free, but every choice we're given is controlled by the Liberals. Paper or plastic at the stores? No choice in SF anymore. (I bring my own plastic.) Our choice of what to watch on TV? One filth-laden program* after another - (hard to find anything good to watch) - or don't watch at all. Movies? One R-rated movie after another - (with rarely ever a decent one) - or don't watch at all. Church? One Liberal-infested church after another - or don't go at all. Schools and universities? One Liberal-infested school after another - or homeschool (and not everyone can do that). Books? You're reading what you think is a normal book, then WHAM, you get hit with obscenity. Etc etc.

You either select the Liberal option (with its Liberal spew, slant, vulgarity, obscenity), or you don't select anything at all.

*With movies and their rating system, at least you know what you're getting. With TV, once family-friendly shows (like Leno) have turned vulgar. You're suddenly hit with obscenities that you weren't expecting.

Bill Maher was a KNOWN evil Yardstick. It’s OK to fight known evils. Did you not fight the Health Care bill?

Read Miloh’s comment, he went to see the movie, you haven’t.

[There is religion, and its shown in a good way.]
[The natives were not all love and peace. They had violent tendencies.]
[I was afraid the story would piss me off. It didn’t.To me the story line made sense and I did not link it with current day events.]

You keep talking about “a big dose of anti Americanism”. Do you know that for certain? We all see things in different ways.

If it were free on TV I might watch it. I don't pay for movies anymore but wouldn't hold it against you if you went to see it. You know what they say, you can't judge it unless you've seen it.

I don’t necessarily agree with that. Reviews are done by people who put their own slant on things. I used to read reviews and disagree with many. I use my own mind, not theirs.

Gotta run or would write more. Christmas rush now.

I didn't say reviews. I said rating system - which I read very carefully. Some R-ratings I can deal with, some I cannot.

Cameron is a big liberal and the story has such obvious leftist themes that you can spot them a mile away. Greedy Americans invading peaceful space natives to steal their natural resources — you don’t need to actually see the movie to see what’s going on here. Likewise you didn’t need to see Fahrenheit 9/11 and Bowling for Columbine to know they were leftist agitprop. The idea that we can’t know a film’s political bias without actually seeing it is just not true.

BTW, why did you try to get Moyers’ show removed? Wouldn’t that have deprived other people from seeing it and judging for themselves?
