It's all just a little bit of history repeating

So, yeah. I'm a Mormon. :) My rant below is my personal opinion and not to be taken as the official position of the LDS Church.

As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I believe the Book of Mormon is a volume of scripture and a companion to the Bible in talking about God's dealings with His other children on the earth...the ones who migrated to the Americas.

More about that here.

What I want to bring to your attention is that what we've been going through with this left vs. right infighting is nothing new. Especially on this continent, which is actually set apart by God as a place of refuge and freedom from tyranny. The Book of Mormon tells the story, which occurs in the year 62 B.C., which I'll summarize thusly:

Moroni, the commander of the Nephite army fighting insurgents called Lamanites who are attacking from another land, complains to Pahoran, who is the Nephite chief judge (similar to a president) of the government’s neglect of the armies—The Lord suffers the righteous to be slain—The Nephites must use all of their power and means to deliver themselves from their enemies—Moroni threatens to fight against the government unless help is supplied to his armies.

Pahoran tells Moroni of the insurrection and rebellion against the government by a band of traitors calling themselves "king-men"—The king-men take Zarahemla and are in league with the Lamanites—Pahoran asks for military aid against the rebels.

Moroni marches to the aid of Pahoran in the land of Gideon—The king-men who refuse to defend their country are put to death—Pahoran and Moroni retake Nephihah—Many Lamanites join the people of Ammon (Nephites)—Teancum slays Ammoron (a Nephite defector who started the war) and is in turn slain—The Lamanites are driven from the land, and peace is established.

Here is where the real difference was made. (<--Read it. It matters in understanding the rest of this post.) Note, if you are squeamish at the thought of inflicting the death penalty on traitors, you will probably disagree with the method Moroni is forced to use to restore peace...yet the results of bold, swift, and decisive action are clear and undeniable. The reason and justification, unassailable. If you don't remove the root of the cancer, it will quickly spread until it destroys the whole body.

Now before anyone, including the federal authorities reading this, gets uptight and starts marking me as a national security threat, I am NOT advocating violence between right and left factions or against government officials.

Let me repeat.

I am NOT advocating violence between right and left factions or against government officials.

What I am advocating is simply that we, as voters, collectively act as Captain Moroni and that we "execute" corrupt senators and representatives and presidents by voting them out of office at the next possible opportunity. In a constitutional republic, that is the only power we have over those in power...the power of the vote. For FAR TOO LONG we have abdicated our authority.

WE THE PEOPLE are the government, not some group of chuckleheaded fat cats in Washington D.C.

WE THE PEOPLE are responsible for our own misery due to our apathy and lack of character as a nation.

WE THE PEOPLE need to stand up to these unaccountable bullies and put them in their places--sitting at home in their comfy leather chairs wondering what the heck happened to their comfy positions in Washington D.C.

But WE THE PEOPLE can't stop there, folks.

WE THE PEOPLE have to be very vigilant (for the very price of freedom IS vigilance) in making sure they don't return from their graves as zombie lobbyists or "advisors". They need to be shut out completely from public service even in the guise of working for "non-profits" or "non-governmental organizations".

WE THE PEOPLE need to maintain an enemy watchlist, partly through the power of social media, with which we can constantly keep track of these global robber-barons and their marauding ways. (The Book of Mormon also has a strategy for defeating hidden conspiracies, btw.) Then, wherever we find them creating new machiavellian machinations, we must wield the power of popular opinion over which we now have control and crush their self-serving hopes and dreams into oblivion.

Make no mistake about it, the Book of Mormon is a warning voice for our time. Mormon, the person who compiled it from an archive of his fallen nation's history, did so out of love and concern for those of us who would come in the future. It's a "how to" manual of what to do to ensure safety and peace and freedom. It is also a "how NOT to" manual on what to AVOID doing to avert disasters like the one his nation suffered.

Mormon and his son, also named Moroni, were the very last surviving members of their people. They knew whereof they spoke.

Since I don't live in NEVADA, how do I 'execute' Harry Reid?

Since scripture says you will know they by their fruits.

BEFORE that, bible SCRIPTUERE said you'd know a prophet by if what he said came true.

So many of Joseph Smith's did not; therefore, according to the Bible, he was a FALSE prophet; just as the NEW TESTEMENT warned about.

"proud - ok...I get it...you are mormon and you are upset because others aren’t."

I'm not sure where you're getting the idea that I'm "upset because others aren't." I said no such thing.

"...so what is it you want? You want FR to bow before Moroni?"

Not at all. Just trying to make a point about the state of our government from my own point of view and experiences. You don't have to accept (or attack) my religious beliefs to see that we're in trouble unless we all get unified and do something about it.

It was a gesture of common ground, of good will, to note that even though we may disagree theologically, we can agree to help each other fight a common battle against evil. But I guess all that's been accomplished here is to show that pretty much every time one tries to build a bridge, there will be trolls waiting to get under it so they can throw stones.

Freep members should abide by their own accepted rules of civility. Right here in the comments form it says "Please: NO profanity, NO personal attacks, NO racism or violence in posts."

I'm on your side, regardless of your hate for my beliefs. When the bad guys come knocking on your door, I'll be a loyal friend to stand up for your rights.

I’m not a campaign finance law expert, but it seems to me that there is nothing standing in the way of donating to Reid’s opponents.

For what purpose is the rep elected? To vote on legislation is it not? What is the purpose of legislation but to lay down rules (laws) for the populace to adhere to. So yes, when you vote you are electing your rulers. Perhaps the ruler/ruled concept sounds too much like medieval Europe. We can use the word “governed” instead of “ruled” (same thing though).

Please don't do it on my account, I don't care how much money they have or the total amount of money the Catholic church has, thats between the members of these churches and their leaders. Ain't none of my business.

I'm 70 and have better things to do than worry about some one else's financial business, trying to keep track of the congress is bad enough, thats my money so I am concerned.. Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year..

Hi Elsie; You may or may not be accurate. The only thing about the Mormons that I care about is that Romney is one and I don't like RINO's. His father was not a great governor either. I live in Michigan...We have people right here on Free Republic that think one of their members is a prophet. Its none of my business who follows who unless they mean me harm. Like some Muslims, them, I don't like and its good to keep an eye on what they say and do...

Their faith is life or death to others... Hope you have a Merry Christmas and Happy New year.....GG

You have goats, you lucky person...My goats would only go under lights when they were in labor and for 2 days after birth to help keep the baby warm....

We were warned to only clean out the barn once a year in the spring. That allowed lots of hay and poo to build up and help keep the barn warm in the winter. Michigan has bad winters and as you know goat poo is just little pellets break up easily as the goats walk around...

It made the best fertilizer for the garden in the spring when the barn was cleaned out...Our barn was ancient and the old post and beam construction. It wasn't as high as modern barns. The beams for the ceiling was old trees than still had the bark on. It had a hay loft over the barn so that also contributed to warmth...

We still had to water once a day and knock out the ice from the large buckets, they would really suck up the water when we refilled the buckets before it froze again.. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year........

I disagree. Preaching of the gospel is rare, but not non-existent.

Here is a link to some sermons that I would say demonstrate the fact:

The Lordship of Christ: Introduction

The Nature of Saving Faith

The Call to Repentance

The Cost of Discipleship

Link is to transcripts; there is another link at the top of each page to an audio download.

If you meant that nobody is limiting their preaching to the words Christ said about the gospel during His earthly ministry, then I would say that is probably true and is a good thing.

“What do the Mormons of today do that is so bad.

I wrote nothing about individual mormons.
I wrote about the cultic heresy of mormonism.

Nothing you wrote has anything to do with the
falsehoods of mormonism - falsehoods that can
send its followers to hell. I hope to warn away
anyone who would unknowingly buy into it.

Other than this clarification, post all you want, but I won’t be responding to your ad-hominem, unsubstantiated attacks.

Or to the FACTS that ARE substantiated that PROVE how out of whack MORMONism is.

Does ascribing 'hate' to an individual constitute a PERSONAL attack?

You have goats, you lucky person...

Not lucky; but BLESSED!

My spoiled little darlings get HOT water in a bucket from the house, to refill and top off their HEATED tub and bucket.

And I vacuum their quarters weekly to get rid of the pellets.

Our first flock was 18 goats, in 5 years we were up to 80. Lots of poo but it didn't have a smell. Since they are sloppy hay eaters, most of the floor was hay but, just lots of hoofs to trim, delouse and give injections to. Now the males during breeding season, WOW you could smell them from 20 feet away...but after they had their was with all the doe's, we put them in another barn and pasture and they lost their romantic mood and quit peeing on themselves..I guess its irresistible to female goats, but not female humans...Merry Christmas..

Our last kidding season before my hubby passed away we had 20 kids born...Several sets of twins over the years...Triplets are not unusual with goats, but we never had triplets...A happy and fertile new year to you and yours....:O)

Every goat person I ever knew were the greatest people....:O)
