Knock It Off, Free Republic!
XenoHistoran ^ | 12/1/09 | XenoHistorian

Posted on 12/02/2009 9:21:09 AM PST by pissant

I have been a minor participant at Free Republic, the Internet’s leading conservative forum, since September 2004. An online friend referred me to a discussion where members of Free Republic were talking about the 1952 and 1956 presidential elections, and using my maps from this page to make a point. I had to join FR to introduce myself to that group, and thank them for visiting. Because that was right after the “Rathergate” scandal, I thus became one of the “Pajamahadeen” that had just brought down the Sauronic eye of CBS.

Being a “Freeper” has been an interesting and fun experience, but I am disturbed by a current trend on those boards. For the past few weeks, at least since the latest fundraising drive ended, I have noticed that every new thread begins with a picture or video reminding us that Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor and presidential candidate, supports abortion. It doesn’t matter what the topic is, the anti-Mitt material pops up.

Personally, I think our current priorities ought to be making sure President Obama and his leftist pals don’t force their health care plan down our throats, and defeating as many moonbats as possible in next year’s congressional and gubernatorial elections, especially Harry Reid, Barbara Boxer, Chris Dodd and Slobbering Barney Frank. Then in 2011 or 2012 we can fight over who we want for the presidency. Consequently, yesterday I posted the following on the Kentucky board:

Is anyone else getting sick and tired of the Mitt Romney bashing that goes on at the beginning of each new thread? Granted, he may not be conservative enough for most of us (my first choice for 2012 would probably be Sarah Palin or Duncan Hunter), but he just HAS to be better than the Chicago mob that rules Washington now. Somebody ought to tell Jim Robinson that BHO and his cabal are the real enemy, not Mitt. Sheesh, an outside observer looking at us now is probably getting the impression that Republicans eat their own. And as for Mitt Romney being a Mormon, well, I’m more concerned about Harry Reid’s Mormon faith. Does he HAVE any?

Four replies have appeared since then, and only one agrees with me. The others just said we ought to do whatever we can to make Mitt Romney unelectable. I guess I’m going to take a timeout from Free Republic. Hopefully the Freepers will be acting more sensibly when I return. ’Bye, see you guys next year.

What you're inferring is that FR bans people for not being in lock-step with JR and that's just plain wrong....

Are you for real?

Over 18,000 replies. Dozens were zotted for not being in lock-step:

Will FR embrace socialism to make way for Rudy Giuliani as a Republican presidential candidate?

Romney was hated here long before Palin was on the stage.

Romney is wealthy, Mormon, opportunistic, extremely smart, telegenetic. All the things that open him up for ridicule. He also made a career out of being a liberal on a host of social and other issues, giving opponents reams of information to use against him.

Most people work backwards from the result — if you view it that way, it all makes sense. Reagan is a good conservative, so if he signed some law once, or if he granted amnesty, or traded arms for hostages, it was for good reason, and it doesn’t discount his ocnservative credentials.

However, if there’s a candidate you dislike, the same actions can be used for ridicule and dismissal. Current example: probably every conservative governor has pardoned or commuted SOMEONE who later in life did or will go on to commit some terrible crime.

But we only trot it out if it’s helpful to attack a candidate we dislike anyway. If a candidate we like is found to have done the same thing, we will explain why it’s different.

You are correct...look at the great purge of the Rudy supporters...

The Rudy supporters who got banned were resorting to trashing Reagan and conservative values. And Rudy had almost no conservative convictions - pro-abort, anti-gun, pro-AGW, the list goes on and on.

FR isn't a conservative site. Hasn't been for a long time. It's a JimRob fan site.

Then what the hell are YOU doing here?

JimRob is a gracious host and puts up with lots of ideas he doesn't agree with, incuding ones penned by me. YOU have all the good manners and civility of a spoiled nine-year-old.

I think it's time for you to make like a tree and leave.

What a shame that being underhanded and deceptive is now openly accepted on FR. The LEFT does that ALL THE TIME. WISE UP!

Yes, I read your posts and they are deceptive. Take your own advice.

Interesting, Charles. I didn’t put that together as I tend to just skip over thread videos...I actually think it would be nice to insert some videos with Palin making some good policy speeches and maybe some other young conservatives as well...go “pro”, not “anti”...magritte

Your posts are always thoughtful, even if I do not always agree.

But you are right here. Romney has pretty well killed any chances he has by failure to distance himself from the Fuster Cluck created by the People's Republic of Massachusetts. Whether or not the plan was implemented with the best of intentions, including participation from the private sector, is an irrelevant point now. The Libtards got ahold of it and turned it into a giant Fuster Cluck just as they will with any moderated version of ObaMao care.

That said, the vast majority of the Romney supporters are decent economic conservatives who we will need for any victory in 2012. The continued and senseless bashing at a Pinata which has already neutered himself serves little purpose other than making some people feel good, including the moonbat demographic whose main reason for hating Romney is his religion and not his politics.

Ironically, it is the moonbat demographic who stands most likely to resurrect Romney's nearly dead political prospects by turning him into a martyr with their bigoted invective.

I, for one, would prefer to spend my energies supporting Sarah Palin, than dancing on the political grave of the Bush Family's placeholder.

I was not a Rudy supporter, I am not a Romney supporter, but I saw a lot of long time Freepers get banned in that Rudy thread...I believe the link was just posted.

As I posted earlier in this thread at post #84...."I have to agree our energy is better spent, attacking the Libs in power now, defeating healthcare reform and Cap & Trade, and also taking back Congress in 2010."

"It is too early to worry about trashing Mitt for 2012."

Romney was never “pro-abort.” He was a libertarian on the issue.

but the debate is pretty fierce

What's there to debate about Truth? Go where you need a fight - not a site that promotes conservatism.

lol. I'm here because I've been gone for 6 months and haven't been around to disagree with Jim's fanclub.

I've been here to read 2 entire articles and got rubbed the wrong way with the Jim Fanclub.

This look familiar?

If you want to leave FreeRepublic, go. No one will stop you.

It's from number 12 upthread.

How about this one?

Jim’s house. Jim’s rules.

It's from #13 above.

JimBots I tell ya's.

So I suppose it's time for me to disappear for another 6 months. Cyas

I truly did not like any of the candidates but I would have voted for Thompson and when he was out of the running, I was going to write in Gen. Ben Raines who is the hero in the OUT OF THE ASHES series of books by William W. Johnstone. Check the books out if you have not read any of them.

Sorry...but....most of the time, in fact, all of the times that I’ve seen someone magically disappear, it’s been for a good reason. They were trolls, if not paid operatives. Perhaps the tolerance lately has grown thin due to the massive influx of such trolls and POs. Ya think?

You don't get elected Governor of one of the most liberal states in America by promoting Conservatism.

And yes, Da Boss is adamant about FR being a Conservative Site. ...which I support 100%
