The White House tried to bury the news of Van Joness resignation see my news report here by announcing it after midnight on Sunday on a Labour Day weekend. But that hasnt stopped the Right from trumpeting a major victory or the Left from gnashing its teeth over what it regards as a craven capitulation.
Although Jones was in some ways a relatively insignificant figure in the administration, the White Houses handling of the affair tells us a lot about Barack Obama and the weaknesses that could result in disaster for him this autumn if does not put his terrible summer firmly behind him. Here are 10 things to take away from the resignation:
1. Cynicism. When the going gets tough, Obama does not hesitate to dump someone who has become a liability. This has been a trait throughout his career. It could be seen as a strength but it can also be short-sighted. There will come a time when Obama will need unswerving loyalty from those Democrats who have not always been his supporters. Will the fate of Van Jones help him?
2. Judgement. Whichever way you slice it, it was not difficult to work out that Van Jones was way out of the mainstream of the Democratic party and held views that are objectionable to the vast majority of Americans. The White House must have been aware of this but went ahead anyway. None of those who are complaining that he was victimised can explain away the 9/11 truther petition he signed.
3. Vetting. There wasnt any, or very little. Apparently he wasnt required to fill out a vetting form because he was a czar. This is an indication of disorganisation.
4. Czars. There are some 30 of these in the Obama administration unelected, not

Insignificant> Jones was given authority over 80 billion dollars of stimulus spending. I'd hardly call that insignificant!
Birds of a feather flock together!

Here Obama endorses the man by placing him in another Obama cubbyhole!
No. But the Van Jones episode does shed more light on the Barryjoker administration and their agendas.

Notice the first reply repeats the NYT version of what was in the petition:
“he had signed a petition stating that the Bush administration may have allowed the September 11 attacks to happen as a pretext to go to war”
That needs to be corrected. I don’t have time to sign up to reply. Could someone please point that out?
I think that for any moderately intelligent person...no matter how 'fair minded' you may want to be...can only conclude that obama is a deciever and is now proven to be undeserving of the benefit of the doubt. If you believe the worst about Obama you'll still be surprised when the truth turns out to be worse.
Good point - it strains crdibility past the breaking point to believe that Obama just keeps stumbling into appointments of these leftist America-haters.
Imagine the shape Obama would be in politically if there were anything resembling a genuinely curious, unbiased mainstream media! He wouldn’t have been elected to start with.
So it was a MIHOP, as opposed to a LIHOP petition?
There are plenty more who believe what Jones does, including BO and his bride—you can take that to the bank.
If Jones went to Harlem or South Central LA for a rally tomorrow—he’d get a hero’s welcome—especially once they explained what went down to some of the dimmer bulbs who don’t keep up with the news.
“Vetting. There wasnt any, or very little. Apparently he wasnt required to fill out a vetting form because he was a czar. This is an indication of disorganisation.”
+++++++++++++
They didn’t vet bammy himself. And the Ministry of Propoganda is fine with all of it. They could care less if he’s disorganized, dishonest or name your ‘dis..’.
It’s the American People and Glenn Beck that got Van Jones ousted.
