I am an atheist but I find this kind of public trumpeting of what in this case should be a private offering of prayer nauseating.

My Catholic mom was really displeased with how easily Ted got such a big sendoff from the church. I was even more critical, and frankly if the local clergy had made a big stink about this baby killer getting the royal treatment (as opposed to any number of alternative mass options that wouldn't have put the church's imprimature on this disgraceful person), I might have some respect for them.

If Kennedy was the same in all ways except for his abortion position, the coverage of his death would have been very, very different, as would the DUmmie reaction.

I don't know anything about Eunice Kennedy Shriver's politics, but she was very strongly pro-life, and as the founder of Special Olympics (and her husband the first head of the Peace Corps), her passing didn't receive nearly the public honor she earned in life.

Most churches upon being informed that Ted Kennedy was going to be in their town Sunday and attending mass at their church would be shining the place up weeks in advance.

Mind you, as someone educated by the Jesuits for 8 years, I’m not too happy with how the chancellor of Boston College heaped tons of praise on Teddy.
