Has anyone tried this game SimCity4 Deluxe Edition?? I know its old and has a lot of devoted fans at certain cult-like websites. I have always wanted to try this game but I never got around to it.
There seem to be a few "free download" sites but these cannot be legal, IMO. I want to buy it so I can feel a bit like a liberal and I am put into total control of their teeny virtual world!
*evil laugh*
Seriously though, has anyone tried it?
You’re asking for nothing but heartache and frustration by trying to run any game (other than Zork) on any old or underpowered box. Max memory, fast HD, high end video card, plus any other tweaks is the only way to run most any game. Gaming software is known to totally push the limits of any machine— and O/S.
I’d recommend a dedicated box just for games— for a number of reasons. But trying to make any game work on a slow, RAM poor box will never work. You have to realize that the Windoze O/S will take a majority of any RAM and CPU cycles, leaving precious little for any software running on it. You can ge a cheap box today with 2+ Gigs of Ram and a hot CPU and video card that will run games pretty good.
But don’t even think about putting a game on an old, slow box. You’ll hate it. Hate the game. Hate the frustration.
I could just download some really small game files for it like Pac-Man and DSig Dug and let the kids have the old compy. The one I am going to buy is for courses I am taking, 25% off through the college site for what I am looking at. Its a basic Toshiba laptop but I am going to make sure it has at least 2GB.
I should think an older game like SimCity4 shouldn’t be too taxing. I am also looking at MS Flight Simulator
Thanks I will keep those in mind. I think I will go with SC4 for now.
Buy a 3-4 year old machine (Look for first generation dual core processor) should run SC4 quite well.
A first generation dualcore processor, motherboard, 2GB RAM, 7900gtx or radeon x1600 video card, shouldn’t be more than about $300-400. Would run it great. Make sure you hunt down windows xp, don’t put vista on it. If you must have a new OS, use Windows 7.
SC4 can tax a computer handily on large, robust cities. The computer I recommend will handle it.
I saw a Toshiba at Wal-Mart for a good price that comes with 3 GB of RAM. That should be good I think.

Its Vista but the 3 GB of RAM should make up for that right?
I was also thinkng about Flight Simulatr
anybody else have an opinion?
I am worthless as I don’t have games on my
‘puter and just don’t play them, ya know?
But Mr. Fiddlstix is quite knowledgeable
on tech stuff on ‘puters and maybe can give
you a few idears ????
OK, thanks
Same here. The only games I have are the ones which are "built in" the OS.
I never use those either.
I just never got into the gaming thing.
My 'puter is used for business except for the time here at FR
That is fine. This game has no violence as far as I know or a lot of things. Still sounds fun to me.
simtropolis seems to be down
Looks like its down right now. Just when I am getting started
oh NOW it bworks geesh.
I wonder if Laz plays games?
The guys at Simtropolis are working on and have a Beta out for a SimCity 4 expansion called Sim Mars!

looks cool.
Never mind. It looks like it was abandoned in 2005
They were tired of waiting for EA, especially after the bad SimCity Societies
Another new version of a city-builder is due in Sept. - Tropico 3.
