Are Beck's Sponsors Really Backing Out? (VANITY)

I hate Vanities - but is this true? Did Beck really lose Geico, Men's Warehouse, etc?

I thought he had a popular show - it would surprise me if it were true...

Buffet does own Jordan’s Furniture in Boston, Star Furniture in Houston, Homemakers Furniture in DeMoines, and Nebraska Furniture Mart in Omaha and Kansas City. He also owns Shaw Rugs in Dalton, GA.

Buffett first bought shares in Geico in 1943. He bought more shares over the years and then in the nineties his Berkshire Hathaway bought out all remaining shareholders.

Thanks for the link. After September 11, all the Geico offices flew American flags and most still have one hanging on their buildings today.

Ah yes. That’s correct. Glenn Beck said Obama was a racist didn’t he, and that is what set whatever that black organization is off.

I’ve only had one claim in my 20+ years w/GEICO, probably in 1987-1988 or so and they handled it quite promptly and efficiently. A guy fishtailed on a wet road, hit me, and took off. I caught his lic number though. (remember, no internet or email then) After I called them, I had an appt at an estimate/body shop the next day and the whole thing proceded pretty painlessly. Just saying, I don’t know if they are easy or hard to deal with post-accident compared to other carriers. I DO like their customer service. The phone-in menu is pretty lengthy, but once you get someone, they believe in staying with you until all your issues are handled, and there are very few things (in my experience) where they need someone’s permission. Usually one rep can handle your entire situation. I acknowledge, I am with them out of laziness, not because I have shopped half a dozen other carriers.

I feel like calling Progressive and thanking them for removing their annoying ads with that annoying woman so I don’t have to change the channel when they come on. Now if they would just remove them altogether.

It seems a boycott of the companies that have pulled out is in order.

I'm with you. Unlike most, when I boycott, it's for life. Still no French brands or Heinz, etc. in this house for political reasons. I got mad at Post about 15 years ago and there hasn't been any Post products in this house since. There are plenty of other brands out there that it's no problem to eliminate a few undesirables.

I crunched my own van into a parking lot pole - I am a genius parker (/s), rubbed into it a few more times for good measure trying to get away - it was a hospital lot, my son had a broken ankle so I have a little excuse? anyway -

Geico handled my claim very nicely.

Here is the response I got from Geico after I sent a letter to them explaining why I won’t be renewing my policy....

GEICO Car Insurance to Pull Advertisements Away from Glenn Beck Program

Insurance Company Joins Lawyers.com, Procter & Gamble, Progressive Insurance and SC Johnson in Distancing Themselves from FNC Anchor

OAKLAND, Calif.—Adding to a growing list of advertisers distancing themselves from controversial Fox News personality Glenn Beck, GEICO has pledged to re-direct their advertisements away from Beck’s program on the Fox News Channel. The decision by GEICO comes on the heels of announcements made last week that LexisNexis-owned Lawyers.com, Procter & Gamble, Progressive Insurance and SC Johnson were distancing themselves from Beck after the news host called President Obama a “racist” who “has a deep-seated hatred for white people.”

“On Tuesday, August 4, GEICO instructed its ad buying service to redistribute its inventory of rotational spots on FOX-TV to their other network programs, exclusive of the Glenn Beck program,” said a spokesperson for GEICO Corporate Communications in an email to ColorOfChange.org. “As of August 4, GEICO no longer runs any paid advertising spots during Mr. Beck’s program.”

“We applaud GEICO and all of the other companies who have stepped forward to pull their ads from Glenn Beck,” said James Rucker, executive director of ColorOfChange.org. “Beck’s rhetoric is dangerous to the fabric of our democracy, and we are heartened that so many big companies feel the same way. We won’t stop here — we’re going to continue our fight to see that as many of Beck’s advertisers pull their support as possible.”

Two weeks ago, ColorOfChange.org called on its 600,000-plus members to sign a petition urging companies who advertise on Glenn Beck to cut off their advertising support of his work. More than 75,000 members responded to the call by signing a petition directed at advertisers.

Last week, ColorOfChange.org received confirmation from LexisNexis that they pulled their ads from Beck and have no plans to advertise on the program in the future. Procter & Gamble, Progressive Insurance and SC Johnson called the Beck advertising placements an error that they would correct.

The ColorOfChange.org email urged members to go visit http://www.colorofchange.org/beck/, where they could send letters to executives of target companies. With more than 600,000 members, ColorOfChange.org is the largest African-American online political organization in the country.

According to TV Newser, Fox reports that the companies who jumped ship were moved to other Fox programs but that was before the Geico news and ColorofChange is not finished with its work.
