Sarah Palin finally came out and made her stance on illegal immigration clear. She is pro amnesty for illegal aliens. In an interview to Univision she stated unequivocally that she is for a pathway to citizenship. In the same interview she says she is against amnesty for illegal aliens. Have your cake and eat it to, I think that is called.
Back on the same day that John McCain chose Sarah Palin as his vice-presidential candidate I started investigating Palin's past on illegal immigration. I invited others to send in anything they found. There was nothing on the record. Many did write in and said that Laura Ingraham said that one time she was talking to Palin and she said she was against amnesty. That was the only statement anywhere that could be found.
Now we know that she is against amnesty, all the while she is for it with a "pathway to citizenship".
You see this is what is wrong with these people. They think they can be on both sides of the issue at once and that simply isn't possible. You are either against amnesty or you are not. If you are for a pathway to citizenship for those who have illegally entered our country then you are pro-amnesty as you have virtually absolved them of all of their illegality.
People have bashed me for questioning "the Palin". They wrote in to say that obviously she is against illegal immigration. This was all wishful thinking and like so many other issues that the politicians have avoided, until they take a clear stance don't assume anything (and even then, if they're only saying it look at their record).
Sarah Palin is in lock-step with John McCain when it comes to amnesty for illegal aliens. Her answers are almost indistinguishable from McCain's, Obama's or even the most pro-illegal alien congressman in the house, Luis Gutierrez, for that matter.
Read it and weep.
Univision
Univision: Governor, let me ask you about immigration. How many undocumented immigrants are there in Alaska? Sarah Palin: I don't know, I don't know. That's a good question.
Univision: As governor, how do you deal with them? Do you think they all should be deported? Sarah Palin: There is no way that in the US we would roundup every illegal immigrant - there are about 12 million of the illegal immigrants - not only economically is that just an impossibility but that's not a humane way anyway to deal with the issue that we face with illegal immigration.
Univision: Do you then favor an amnesty for the 12 or 13 million undocumented immigrants? Sarah Palin: No, I do not. I do not. Not total amnesty. You know, people have got to follow the rules. They've got to follow the bar, and we have got to make sure that there is equal opportunity and those who are here legally should be first in line for services being provided and those opportunities that this great country provides.
Univision: To clarify, so you support a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants? Sarah Palin: I do because I understand why people would want to be in America. To seek the safety and prosperity, the opportunities, the health that is here. It is so important that yes, people follow the rules so that people can be treated equally and fairly in this country.
...
Univision: What is your strategy? How are you planning to win the latino vote? Sarah Palin: I will tell you, I wish that there were more hours in the day so that we can get out there and to more of the communities with such the strong Latino vote that is out there and really tell them that we desire to work for them. We are asking them to hire us and let us work for them.
Sickening we can't find a real leader in this country who cares about Americans first.
Not prison. Internment camp. Followed by a one-way trip back to wherever they came from.
Look, either we have borders or we don't. If we do, we have the duty to protect them, and to detain and deport anyone who crosses them without our permission. If we're going to let people violate our borders and continue to live here, then we might as well just quit pretending we're a sovereign nation and start stamping out the Ameros.
“but what do you do with a guy who has lived here twenty five years?”
He ought to be thanking this country for dishonestly taking 25 years of what we built without punishment and then he ought to be sent back where he came from.
It doesn’t appear that we need the Dims to falsely demonize Sarah does it?
You sound like the people covering for BHO's birth certificate.
Just show us some other statement and this all begins to fade away.
“Heres what could happen, the border fence could be constructed, petty criminals could be immediately deported, id requirements could be enforced.”
That happened last fall - between the laco of construction jobs for illegals and Bush’s ICE raids. There were lots of articles in our paper about it. Of course the articles were from the point of view of how terrible it was that this family had to move to Mexico, and the American-born daughter that was straight A in high school had to leave and sleep with her 12 cousins in a shack in Mexico City.....
Your Pat Buchanan, L Ron Paul talking points are right out of the Code Pinko play book.
Your type who support the IslamOfascists side step the issue by using the strawman routine or bogus statements
to trash Conservatives such as Sarah Palin because she
understands the fact that the IslamOfascists declared war on America and her son in fighting in Iraq which idea you
hate.
You don’t have the balls to come out and state your real reasons for trying to smear Palin.
We are not rounding up millions of people into internment camps. The cost alone should indicate that not to mention the horrible parallels in history.
A middle ground can be struck to deal wit hthe current issue.
Politicians let this issue slide for too long. Crack down on future illegals but there needs to be accomodation for a lot of the people that are here, have successful businesses, have families (even extended families, etc.).
Hell, I support strong immigration laws but you cannot intern 10s of millions of people then deport them? How would you do it? Planes, buses, boats, FedEx boxes?
Do you toss Chinese that escaped communism on a boat back to China for execution? How about Syrians or North Koreans? On and on. This isn’t just Mexicans but a whole host of people from worldwide. And yes, people from England, Canada, Norway, Sweden, etc.
People that are productive not just loafers.
The issue is too complex for simple “toss them into jail” responses. I do NOT support providing welfare for them but reality is what politicians have crafted for us over decades.
I’m not getting It guess. I guess some folks here wanted her to say” No one else can come to this country. There is no such thing as legal immigration. No more workers permits, no more green cards. Wanna come to America like the rest of our forefathers did, SOL.” and this political message has been approved by Barack Obama!
Uh.....um...ur.....I'll stick with supporting Sarah Palin.
Mittens is getting his rear end kicked on a politico poll. So you plant a story from nearly a year ago when Sarah Palin was under the McCain campaign control. What was she supposed to do, make him look bad?
Sarah Palin has already let us know that she does not support illegals getting anything. She is squarely in the corner of legal American citizens.
Take your anti-Palin garbage somewhere else and tell your RAT friend Willard we’re on to his tricks.
What can I say? They had no problem helping Zero get elected this time.
Many of these same posters were warned in 2006 what they were doing to the conservative cause.
You see how well that worked out, but they still don’t care.
They will allow the far left to control our nation over immigration.
Yep. Go back to the country of origin and get in line behind people obeying the law.
I'm going have to second this.
The middle ground is to enforce the law, particularly at the employer level, and then illegals would begin to self deport. That's already been demonstrated in Oklahoma and Georgia who toughened state laws, and just as a result of the economic downturn.
This blather about rounding up twelve million illegals is just a cheap scare tactic used by the pro-illegal crowd. That's not necessary. Self-deportation and law enforcement over a few years could accomplish what is needed.
Incredible, isn’t it?
Willard M. Romney has plenty of trolls out there working to smear Sarah Palin.
The one trick pony the pro amnesty crowd always trots out. Nailed IT!!
Don’t call me pro-illegal, I am not. I am practical and realistic.
Employer sanctions have been needed forever, that’s fine. Once you scare away the low cost labor and are left with the ones that are deeply into the system and productive citizens, do we then toss up a few internment camps and deport them? How do you want to handle the children? Let’s say we have a Lebanese mother and a Kenyan father and neither country will take the other? Do you want to split them up and ship the kids off with mom? How do you transport them? What about the bills they owe, the mortgages, the jobs that are left vacant, etc.?
This issue is far more complex than simply saying ‘off with their heads’. The more the conservatives stick their head in the sand about it the worse we look.
