Here is a brief statement made by Pittsburgh Steelers Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger on a civil suit filed against him by a woman who claims he raped her. He said he did no such thing, and promised to fight the allegation, but to stay focused on football. . . . . (Watch Video)

I hope he does fight it. Paying off extortionists is just what they want. If he’s guilty, let the chips fall where they may.
Good for you, Ben. I don’t know of anyone who thinks there’s legs to this story.
it should be illegal to file a civil suit charging rape if you have never pursued criminal charges.
The mere fact that she never went to the police and has never gone to the police to this day — yet comes out publicly seeing loads of $$$ is too suspicious.
“Good for you, Ben. I dont know of anyone who thinks theres legs to this story.”
Hi there. Now you know somebody.
To be clear, I’m INCLINED to believe the woman, because Mr. Roethlisberger is such an a******. But that doesn’t matter. What matters are facts, and on those grounds alone, should the case be decided. We should avoid premature cheering of ‘Ben’ in the meantime.
I dont want to pass judgment on Ben nor the waitress. Those 2 people are the only ones who know what happened. I am not sold on the “sport star” celebs whom we think are good guys. For all I care they could be serial rapists.
Glad to see him fight this.
Hate the Steelers, Ravens fan. He seems like a good guy though.

No, it isn’t. Rapists—and enablers or rapists, for whatever reason—successfully intimidate women quite often.
Maybe you are right, and, as previously said, “she’s looking for a payday.” But maybe she was raped as she describes. The fact remains we don’t know the facts.
Note to Freepers: what are know, Ben Roethlisberger’s sycopanths? WE DON’T KNOW PEOPLE. Do I need to remind you how many idols have feet of clay?
Nor do I, either way.
While the charges are different, I'm reminded of the Michael Jackson trial where his fans were outside the courthouse waving signs saying, "Michael is Innocent". How could they have possibly known that?
No one knows for sure but the principles.
>>Im INCLINED to believe the woman, because Mr. Roethlisberger is such an a******.
Can you elaborate on that?
Well, I don’t ‘know’ you so my statement stands. Plus, you forget that Ben plays for Pittsburgh. We like Ben here. If you’re not from this area you won’t understand that fancy-ass, stuck-up football players don’t pass the smell test in this area. Ben has been a good guy and the fans like him. THAT says a lot in Pittsburgh and the surrounding area. You don’t automatically get idol worship here.
Hi evets;
Okay, that made me smile.
No, I don’t like the man. I’m not sure why—something in his demeanor just doesn’t seem right. But my main feeling for him is indifference. He’s just not that important.
Let’s hope justice will be done here; if he’s innocent, I sincerely hope he doesn’t pay. But if he isn’t, may his dollars migrate to the accuser and her lawyers....
Ha ha. May justice and truth prevail!

Hi MarineBrat:
The statement needs no elaboration.
You don’t like the man. You’re not sure why. Yet you’re calling him names because ‘there’s something about his demeanor’? And based on your not liking something about his demeanor he’s guilty? Oh, geez.
Errrrr... OK. Unwillingness to present your case makes it look as though you aren’t confident of the propriety of your reasons. Did he beat you in the Super Bowl or something?
