Flowers for Willow Palin
vanity ^ | 6/12/2009 | self

I'm posting this as a suggestion for everyone.

After writing to CBS, Major League Baseball and the sponsors listed elsewhere (without much satisfaction), I decided to not just type, but to take action - I sent flowers to Governor Palin at the Alaska State Capitol with the following note:

Please give these flowers to Willow. My family all thinks David Letterman's comments are despicable and my wife and daughters all want to give Willow a big hug.

My sons want to give Mr. Letterman something else, but I reasoned with them that that would be counter-productive as you and Todd are handling this situation extremely well.

Governor Sarah Palin
Alaska State Capitol
120 4th St.
Juneau, Alaska 99801

I think the kids ought to be off-limits, either way. Just let them lead as normal a life as possible.

Yes. As I read the law, it is clearly not a problem.

I’ll contact the PING for info and input.

As was suggested we could send the flowers to Sarah for her whole family. Not the children directly.

There are multiple reasons. Not the least of which is that she’s 14. Sending them directly to the Governor is a little better.

But, IMHO, the child has received enough attention. This only amplifies the horror of the initial statement.

And yes, I realized I could likely get shouted down here.

But I still think my best response is, “leave the child alone.”

At the very bottom of the Late Show with a-hole Letterman website, there is a "Feedback" link for commenting on any given program.

The screen that you'll see will look like this below. You apparently don't need to be a registered member of the site to send comments:

From NewsBusters.org, June 9, 2009...

Seven months after Election Day, and the attacks on Sarah Palin keep coming.

On Monday, CBS's David Letterman on the "Late Show" shamelessly went after the Alaska governor and her family during his opening monologue, as well as in his "Top Ten" list.

Top Ten Highlights Of Sarah Palin's Trip To New York

10. Visited New York landmarks she normally only sees from Alaska

9. Laughed at all the crazy-looking foreigners entering the U.N.

8. Made moose jerky on Rachael Ray

7. Keyed Tina Fey's car

6. After a wink and a nod, ended up with a kilo of crack

5. Made coat out of New York City rat pelts

4. Sat in for Kelly Ripa. Regis couldn't tell the difference.

3. Finally met one of those Jewish people Mel Gibson's always talking about

2. Bought makeup from Bloomingdale's to update her "slutty flight attendant" look

1. Especially enjoyed not appearing on Letterman

"One awkward moment for Sarah Palin at the Yankee game, during the seventh inning, her daughter was knocked-up by Alex Rodriguez."

Thank you for expressing your concern. I have a 14 year old daughter. I based my actions on knowing she would appreciate the show of support, but I agree that some would rather try to ignore and forget the whole sordid incident. Perhaps, as others have suggested, a donation in her name is a better course of action. Since I don’t know the Palins I sent this to Sarah at her office.

The Palin family is welcome at my family’s table anytime.

Heh, someone posted a video link to a YouTube video, the link was titled something like “Todd Palin meets David Letterman” and was the famous scene from the Godfather where Sonny beats the tar out of his brother-in-law who was abusing Sonny’s siter.

Well. Can’t be advocating violence on here, but I would pay money to see this meeting...

I'd have sent them not to her office but to:

Sarah Palin
Wasilla, AK 99654

I’d like to lock Letterman in the same room with Todd Palin for five minutes alone.

Be messy to clean up the room afterwards though.

I agree. Besides...I’m not into spending hard earned dollars to make up for what the pig letterman had to say.

Your intentions seem to be really good, but I think this sort of thing would tend to prolong the media spotlight on Willow.

"There are two florist shops in Juneau, as well as all the on-line floral services"

Just a suggestion in the name of fairness:

Get the name and phone number of a local shop in AK and place the order with them. The reason is that the internet vendors are killing the real florists by scooping up most of the profit, and leaving the local shop to do all the work. That's why so many local florists are going out of business.

As a mother myself I think it is a sweet gesture. Kids this age can more easily have their self-esteem wounded by such hurtful comments. As a mother I would welcome the support & I think it would be nice for Willow and her family know by whatever means you use to reach out to them that they are supported.

I would also like to add that ignoring an attack made against a 14 year old girl does not make it go away or help a 14 year old girl feel better.

I think it would be OK to send flowers to Gov. Palin and mention her family but not Willow by name.

The one thing is send them to her Anchorage office and not the Juneau office. Gov. Palin spends most of her time now at her Anchorage office now since the AK. Legislative Session is over.

I think it’s a great gesture. The Governor can decide if she wants to give them to Willow or not, or even to tell Willow about them. She has the option and whatever she decides I’m sure she herself will appreciate the support they represent.
