Pat Buchanan--->Hitler's Protector
Human Events/The Lid ^ | 5/5/09 | The Lid

Posted on 05/05/2009 8:46:27 AM PDT by Shellybenoit

It is not surprising that MSNBC's resident bigot, Pat Buchanan, is a supporter of accused Nazi, John Demjanjuk. Buchanan has made a career of being a Holocaust denying Israel hater. Buchanan has challenged the historical record that thousands of Jews were gassed to death by diesel exhaust at Treblinka: "Diesel engines do not emit enough carbon monoxide to kill anybody." -New Republic, 10/22/90

* Pat Buchanan's website espouses views that most Americans would find distasteful, he blames AIPAC (his code word for Jews) for pushing America into the Iraq war and has fabricated an Israeli spy ring that caused 9/11: So here it is again for those of you unaware, that on 9-11, the largest foreign spy ring ever uncovered in the US was in the process of being rounded up, and that evidence linking these arrested Israeli spies to 9-11 has been classified by the US Government! * It was William F Buckley Jr who confirmed that Buchanan hated Jews. In Search of Anti-Semitism" December 31, 1991, subsequently made the cornerstone of a book, William F. Buckley, Jr. concluded, that Buchanan was indeed an anti-Semite "I find it impossible to defend Pat Buchanan against the charge that what he did and said during the period under examination amounted to anti-Semitism, whatever it was that drove him to say and do it: most probably, an iconoclastic temperament.

Buchanan has been a long time defender of John Demjanjuk, the former SS Guard accused of being Ivan the Terrible. As Demjanjuk deportation from the US neared its climax, he wrote an essay comparing Demjanjuk to Alfred Dreyfus, one of history's most egregious examples of Anti-Semitism.

In today's Human Events, former writer for the National Review, Joseph A. Rehyansky, takes on Buchanan as only someone who has walked in the same circles can:

Then every aging low level camp guard who served the Axis Powers could be considered a war criminal and must be hunted down.

Arrange for the indictments and I'm sure they'll be tried.

Why not a concerted effort to bring their camp commandants and camp guards to justice?

Ask China and the Soviet Union.

Why doesn’t our federal government go after and deport the thousands of illegal aliens here in this country who are currently committing crimes in this country?

Good question, though completely irrelevant in this case.

Obviously the Germans have already tried all the other guards, right?

I think Demjanjuk already had his day in court. Israel had him in custody, convicted him, then overturned his conviction and let him go. It was decided that he was not Ivan the Terrible after all. Now just who do they claim he is now? Dr. Mengele? To the best of my knowledge there were no high ranking Ukranians in the SS. At worst Demjanjuk was a low level camp guard. I can think of a lot worse people we should have gone after including former UN leader Kurt Waldheim. Didn’t former French president Francois Mitterand also corroborate with Nazis and Vichy? No one went after them and they were a lot more high ranking than Demjanjuk.

I think Demjanjuk already had his day in court.

On some charges, sure.

Israel had him in custody, convicted him, then overturned his conviction and let him go.

Because he was not guilty of those charges.

It was decided that he was not Ivan the Terrible after all.

Apparently we can be quite certain now that he was not.

Now just who do they claim he is now?

A guard at Sobibor and various other camps.

To the best of my knowledge there were no high ranking Ukranians in the SS.

Perhaps a conviction would serve to update your knowledge.

At worst Demjanjuk was a low level camp guard.

So you say.

I can think of a lot worse people we should have gone after including former UN leader Kurt Waldheim.

Who is we? Are you German?

Didn’t former French president Francois Mitterand also corroborate with Nazis and Vichy?

Perhaps you should contact the French if you have information.

No one went after them and they were a lot more high ranking than Demjanjuk.

Perhaps they should.

Perhaps they should give it a rest and go after CURRENT criminals here illegally who are CURRENTLY committing violent crimes. That is where the prority should be.

I suggest you wire the German government and tell them.

No, they haven't. This pursuit of Demjanjuk is all about politics--the Germans want to atone for their sins by sacrificing a Ukrainian POW they forced into service (if he was indeed at Sobibor), and the Office of Special Investigation at the Justice Department wants to save face over the Ivan the Terrible debacle, where not only did the Israeli Supreme Court overturn Demjanjuk's conviction (and specifically refuse to try him for what the Germans want to try him for), but the Sixth Circuit found that the Justice Department prosecutors had engaged in prosecutorial misconduct and had committed fraud on the court.

It seems as though your point of view has won the debate as it seems likely that Demjanjuk will be deported to stand trial AGAIN this time in Germany.

What will be interesting to watch is whether or not any NEW evidence is introduced which wasn’t presented earlier in the previous trials.

“The conviction overturned in Israel was that Demjanjuk was Ivan the Terrible.”

In another thread on Demjanjuk you make a bid deal of never having passed judgement on this innocent American.

Now I see that you not only pass judgement but you lie about the facts of the case.

In fact, this is a case of double jeopardy as the Israeli Supreme Court did have the Sobibor charge in the original indictment. They considered the evidence that he was at Sobibor and found NOTHING but forgery from the KGB. NONE of the Sobibor survivors placed him there.

The Court also said that another prosecution would entail “DOUBLE JEOPARDY”.

You know this so cut the BS - we know what you are.

“it did not absolve him of all crimes.”

Thats a lie - they did consider charges that he was at Sobibor and they found no substantiation - none of the survivors could say he was there and the only thing that implicated him was the ID card supplied by the commie Armand Hammer and the KGB.

This card was found to be a forgery by the leading Nazi document forensics lab.

“The Israeli Supreme Court did not look at all possible charges against him. “

Thats a lie and you know it. We have discussed this on other threads and you ignored the documentation and now I see you are flaming another post.

You’re claiming that Demjanjuk was charged by Israeli prosecutors of being a guard at Sobibor?

Prove it.

No problemo - I have shown this to you 4 times now and you will still ignore it based on you past pattern of behavior.
............................
On August 18, 1993 the Supreme Court of Israel sitting as the High Court of Justice gave its decision on 10 petitions brought by survivors of the Holocaust and others demanding that John (Ivan) Demjanjuk should be brought to trial on charges of war-crimes at Sobibor and other concentration camps. These petitions follow the decision of the Supreme Court to acquit Demjanjuk, by reason of doubt, of the brutal offenses attributed to Ivan the Terrible of Treblinka.

The court of three judges dismissed the petitions.

JUSTICE SHLOMO LEVIN considered in detail the reasons set out in the opinion of the Attorney-General which argued against bringing Demjanjuk to trial. This opinion was based on four arguments:
