We had a lady come to our door waayyyy out here in the boonies.

I dont get non appt. visitors other than the UPS man so I was taken back by her.

I automatically asked her if she worked for ACORN.

She looked puzzled and asked what ACORN was...I responded a group known to work for Obama.

Oh no she says I am official, United States census dept and so I asked to get a closer look at her ID.

Yep US Census with her name too.
I apologized for being so tart and she said no worry she already had our address in he lil hand held electronic deal and we would be getting mail to fill out the census.
She also remarked about what a job it was to find every house in the rain forrest up here.

#1 - the Temp employees working this phase of the Census know even less than you do about what they are doing. They are only told to mark the house.
#2 - they (the temps) do NOT know your name or anything else about you. They will only ask if the house is occupied and if there are any other living quarters on the property.
#3 - they are NOT counting your doors, they will only look to see if there are doors to additional living quarters IF no one is home to ask.
#4 - The Temps are sworn to uphold the Constitution, the same oath military, police, etc.. take. They are sworn to never release personal information of any kind. They are not even allowed to report illegal activities if they see them.
#5 - There were maps made years ago with homes marked on them. Most of the houses are already in the GPS, the workers are just confirming the data.
#6 - Most of you seem to think only ACORN is working the Census. That is patently false. Many out of work normal Americans are working this year. I ask you to treat them with a minimum of courtesy. Would you rather they be taking food stamps and welfare?
#7 - You will either be mailed a "pre-census" this year or a real census next year. If you complete even the minimum amount of information and mail it back, no one will come to your house again after this GPS mapping portion.

I'm not particularly fond of thinking the government has these maps either, but attacking the temp workers who will never see or use any of your information is just silly. The law states that no personal information can be released from census data for 72 years. Check, the newest census data with names you can get for research is 1930. Only the most general information will be released in statistical formats. You can bet those who are ACORN will make sure everyone in inner city neighborhoods get counted to affect redistricting, thus you need to make sure you are counted to offset that. I was only today looking at the 1870 census and found my family. Someday your family may be looking for you too. Sorry this is so long, but there is too much misinformation and hysteria on this thread to not speak up.

I decided to work the census this time. It is a temp job, for $11.50hr/ $.55 mile.I also work the polls.

In WV, I see no ACORN. It is housewives, and others wanting a quick buck. I doubt they are involved in anywhere but urban.

The GPS/handheldcomputer stuff is GW Bush's fault! Zero is probably going to use it in the end, but it was planned long before he came into the scene.

The GPS/handheldcomputer equipment is crap, and will not be used in the general census. I know from personal experience. They will use paper, again!!!

They will not allow us to even show the information on the HHC to anybody not in the USCensus program. PRIVACY? They are using Windoze Mobile...!

And I am well aware of how it works. I've used the technology a time or two.

I now live in the middle of a 50 acre fenced "compound".

Unless they break through a locked 4-bar gate and/or climb a 6 strand barbed-wire fence and somehow manage to get past my motion detectors and driveway alerts, they ain't getting within 40 feet of my house.

And if they do all that, then they have to contend with Jack and Jill, two of the ugliest Great Pyrenees/Rottweiler cross brother and sister nasty dogs alive, both of which are totally devoted to me and will literally eat you if I give them permission to do so.

Nobody, and I do mean nobody, comes to see me unless I want them to come see me.

And yes, every thing is well marked and warnings are posted all over.

They can stand on the damn road and map all they want to.

But they don't get in to Hacienda OldSmaj unless I want them to or unless they have a valid warrant.

Which ain't gonna happen 'cause I ain't broke no laws, lately.

This is how I feel. They have no right to come onto private property period and if they do, they need to bring the proper paperwork, wait politely while I call my lawyer, law enforcement, my pastor, God and anybody else I might be needing. I keep in mind now, the vision of a real American, standing in the road with his musket and a few buddies while a British regiment or any army, as red as the eye can see comes at them.
