Similar technology. You need a deep recess in the rock to make marbles.
You arrange the rock with the deep recess so that water falls into it constantly. Then you put in your candidate marble stone.
The constant tumbling inside the cavity wears the marble stone to a spherical shape, and you take it out when it’s the right size.
Takes a while. But hey, marbles!

Some agates will fluoresce due to the presence of uranium salts.
I have one.
Fluoresces green.

I found one, as well.
The agates were found in Northern California...Eureka, to be sorta correct...
The float was found in Oregon.

More like Yabba Dabba Don't time here. Grumble. Not only do I have an offsite meeting all day tomorrow (that's to get us away from the distractions of the office) and a good part of Thursday, if memory serve me correctly, but we start with a really early teleconference/meeting from a couple management levels further up than this morning's teleconference/meeting.
This means getting up earlier, driving farther. to find an unfamiliar place in a facility I actually have been to once -- years ago, and be awake, mentally sharp and rarin' to go when I arrive. Usually not a problem but I've been dragging lately.
But to look on the happy side -- It's Raining!!!!!!!

There were Japanese floats still to be found last time I was on a beach in Washington During Saturday's community road cleanup I picked up a can of Budweiser. An old can of Budweiser. An old steel can of Budweiser. An old steel can of Budweiser that had been punctured on the top. An old steel can of Budweiser that had been punctured on the top twice. An old steel can of Budweiser that had been punctured on the top twice with a churchkey.
I wonder how old it was. 1970s at the latest.

We’re going camping near there again this summer, a several-day church camp-out. One of the beaches is full of agates I’m told. (My foot was hurting last year so I didn’t go far.)

I don’t recall the name of the beach, but I was living in Eureka at the time. I recall searching the “sands” on my belly in January, looking for agates.
I don’t know where they went off to, but I do recall how beautiful I thought they were, and how sad I was when I couldn’t find them. I could have made a bracelet, at least, and maybe even a necklace....

Er...
With small drills?
Kinda like the bigger ones they used to make fires with?
If a soft one can make fire, what can a hard one do?

Was it rusty? It was rusty FAR beyond any expectation of finding any Budweiser in it.
Would have gone flat anyway.
My only surprise is that it wasn't ALL rust. The soil out here in the cedar woods is pretty acid. Maybe not as much as the Michigan oak forests, but quite acidic. And this can had to be OLD -- I think by the end of the 70s cans were all alumin(i)um and outfitted with various unsuccessful pop-tops, some of which would slice open a finger.
