GOP Chairman Michael Steele Calls Limbaugh Comments "Incendiary and Ugly" - Video 2/28/09

Here is video of Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele talking with CNN's D.L. Hughley last night, and calling comments made by Rush Limbaugh during his speech to CPAC "incendiary and ugly." Steele said Limbaugh is not the de facto leader of the Republican Party, and that he is an "entertainter."

This is exactly the point Rush Limbaugh was trying to make in his speech. Republicans need to stop worrying about what the D.L. Hughley's think! They will never like conservatives or Republicans, because they are liberals! Steele should not have disavowed, in effect, what Rush said. He should have hammered home the core principles set forth by Limbaugh in his speech. . . . . (Watch Video)

That said, Steele doesn’t seem to have been objecting to the style, but to the content, which is the thing that really puzzles me.

It shouldn't puzzle you. This is the type of capitulating attitude that has existed in the Republican party for years and is the reason the socialists have gained power.

I thought for sure it would be the commies who would first jump on Rush. No...It was a RINO.

Steele is too stupid and too much of a lefty to have understood Rush’s speech.

I guess it's just me. I didn't have that big a problem with it. What Rush says is ugly and incendiary to the left. It is the plain truth to conservatives. The way he says it offends the right. There is nothing wrong with acknowledging that. It's just the truth.

I am not going to judge the man over a 2 second sound bite. I will wait for more to come.

To me it seemed like ego. Steele took the bait of the host and ran with it.

Either this is who Steele is (the newly defined Conservative) or Steele is too much of a novice to hold this position.

They just want to go along to get along, gutless, nutless, unprincipled cowards. The only reason they pretend to be republican is so they can get into the country club clique. As long as they’re making money everything else can go to Hell.

What did Rush say that was “incendiary and ugly”? I guess the truth is “incendiary and ugly.”

Sometimes it is, and some people just can't handle it.

I watched Rush’s speech yesterday, and he left tons of ammo for the opposition.

And what would those be?

I can easily see how he made people on our side of the isle nervous.

Please elaborate. I for one was not nervous, but giddy with (dare I say it?) hope.

The speech was ‘disjointed’ mishmash at best.

I must have viewed a different speech. Nothing "disjointed" in what I heard, just facts being related in an engaging manner.

“He was absolutely on point when he described conservatism and the spirit that will revive the party.”

Rush also took on Obama directly. He blasted opened the door and what Steele and the rest of the party should do....is walk through the door. We need to be fearless in going after Obama. If we are timid in any way..the dems will only ratchet up their false charges of ‘racism’ anytime we refute Obama.

Rush doesn’t mind taking the arrows. What the politicos in our party need to do is go after Obama and the democrats while Rush is providing cover! But..alas..they are too boneheaded to see or understand the golden opportunity just provided them by the master of the Golden microphone.

SIGH!!

I think that was one of the reasons they fired the treasurer. I get the impression that SarahPAC may be getting more donations than the entire GOP.

I can't believe the apologists for Steele on this thread.

WHAT HE SAID WAS INEXCUSABLE!

In his high position, he should be trained enough to control his words.....especially when he trashes someone ON OUR OWN SIDE!

Steele has revealed himself.....and the only thing we can do now is vote with our wallets when it comes to donations to the RNC.

He'll probably give the usual portion of OUR money to Snowe, Collins, Spectre and McCain, anyhow.

I'm livid! Was the man drunk?

"What Rush says is ugly and incendiary to the left. It is the plain truth to conservatives"

So that's why Steele should go on CNN & agree with them??

Discouraging, yet not surprising. This is the tact that the left will use in the coming weeks. Every time a Republican politician or strategist goes on the air, the anchor will ask them to denounce Rush’s comments at CPAC. And the unfortunate part is that every one of them will. SPINELESS!!!!

Let them keep calling Rush an “entertainer”. Then any Fairness Doctrine will not apply to him. ;o)

“Conservatives are the RINO’s”?

How do you figure this?

Steele made a mistake by trying to marginalize Rush.

It wasn't a mistake. This has been the general attitude of Republicans for a long time.

No, no, no. Steele did not use the words “incendiary” and “ugly” in a manner that would justify Rush’s remarks. He used those adj’s to demean and malign Rush. Watch the interview again. Steele was impugning Limbaugh’s speech.

What, that America is a great place full of opportunity and hope.
Why is praising the USA ugly.
I am very disappointed, I liked MS. Now it appears he is just like the rest of the Republican cowards.

I love Rush. He is about 6 weeks older than me, and we both have had the same values since childhood. I watched both conventions in the summer of 1964 and became a conserative at that time.
Rush is a joy, I adore him. I would love to have adult beverages with him. He is a conservative not a republican. He was right on in his CPAC speech.
Rush does not have to be perfect (but he is always right). Steele doesn’t have to be perfect either. It will all come out in the wash. Rush is THE MAN. Steele is a politician.
