“you don’t have to follow the same schedule that your local public schools do”
There are lots of reasons to homeschool and this one is one of them. Imagine having to be told by the state when you can and can’t go on vacation.
My wife and I honeymooned at Disney World in mid-December (of 20002) ... and I cannot recommend an off-season Disney vacation highly enough. It was 60 degrees, no crowds, no lines, parks closed early ... a nice, relaxing Disney vacation.
We’re hoping to take the kids on an offseason vacation before they start school.

Is there really more than one or two days worth of stuff at Colonial Williamsburg?
Disney is very expensive although there might be some deals....somebody here said they are reducing the workforce.
Other ideas I've heard are day trips, camping, hiking, exploring local places within a 2-hour drive. Saves gas $$ and supports the local businesses.
This ping list is for articles of interest to homeschoolers. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping List. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added or removed from either list, or both.
All the homeschool families I’ve met take full advantage of off-season prices and thinner crowds for their vacations. But, we haven’t taken even one vacation, yet. Our children have never been “on vacation”. For years, we’ve been hoping to take one, but either our budget won’t allow it or something else happens. This past fall, we were planning to drive to Florida, but then the gas prices shot through the roof. Now that they’ve dropped again, my husband is too worried about taking time off from work in this economy with all the layoffs.

homeschool while its still legal!
Yes a visit to the mouse is mandatory but Epcot has some actual educational stuff don’t forget to sign up for the backstage tour of the Land. They make special deals for us Florida residents. Other must see’s in Florida Edison’s winter home, any number of botanical gardens and the space center. We take off November and December to have more pleasant weather for doing stuff rather than the summer when being cooped up inside with the AC is preferable. They each get a week or two off to attend summer camps.
We rent a place right on the beach in TX for a month in Sept/Oct. The weather is amazing, the atmosphere is friendly and laid-back, and since you don’t pay the hotel tax with stays of 30 days or more, it costs us less to stay a whole month than one week during high season.
We’re doing Hershey on May 28th then on to Philly.
The PA kids are still in school.
We did Niagara Falls last year and Never waited in a line!
