The Governor of New York thinks Classic Coke, and all other non-diet soda, for that matter, makes you fat. So, the Classic Nanny-State is going to impose a Classic "Obesity Tax" on Coke drinkers.
And he's just getting warmed up.

And here I thought Gov. Patterson had a fondness for coke.
Oh wait, he’s not raising taxes on that kind...
Corzine brought up the idea way back when. It was met with nothing but scorn. NYers come over the bridges in droves to shop in NJ. Those sales account for a huge part of our revenue.
But then, Corzine is a fiscal moron, despite his so called reputation so anything is possible.
Is that you, Cletus? Still bitterly clinging to your last tooth?
Ahmen- left there 20 years ago— can’t get much further away and still be in the States— 30 miles from the Bering Sea.
>Report on FoxNews this morning saying that sugar is just as addicitive as heroin.
Ok then, maybe you’d like to have a blood-sugar level of 0... but I wouldn’t. Sugar is addictive like water is addictive.
{The caveat is that processed sugars (bleached, refined, high-fructose corn syrup, etc) ARE bad for you; there is enough documentation supporting that.}
This is just another means of taxing citizens saying is for their own good...typical liberalism the vast majority of people are top dumb to make the “right” decisions about their lives.
his is about to reap the whirlwind by taking on the combined lobbying power of Coke and Pepsi
I’m thinking McDonald’s has got some pretty good lobbyists in Albany to dodge this bullet. Maybe Coke ought to look at some new talent.
That's discrimination.
WHY do I, who am UNDERWEIGHT have to pay MORE now? I need all the calories and fattening agents I can get my hands on. Why do I have to suffer?
Patterson ^%^#W$%@$%U^$%&
Of course it is!
My house was robbed just last week...they left all the jewelry but made off with 2 lbs of pure cut Imperial.
Whatever.
That may or not be true. I do know that sugar is almost as addictive as DHMO.
I believe it. It's just that sugar is so easily accessible, if suddenly sugar were as hard to obtain as heroin, a lot of normally reasonable people would resort to crime to "get their fix."
I am having a Jones pure cain sugar cola ... yummmm!
Shoot, a blind man could see this is a gimmick.
Smokers tried to warn people of this slippery slope years ago.
Wonder how much Pepsi is paying Bloomy?
I hadn't read your comment when I posted my #32.
The body sees it pretty much as water. Does water trick your body into feeling starved?
Some of the newer diet soda formulas are very good. Restaurants could switch over to sucrolose based sodas and most people wouldn't notice. It would be great if restaurants carried more choices than just Diet Coke.
Soda companies would see their sales increase if diet sodas became the fashion since people can drink more of them without feeling sick. Unfortunately most people remember the nasty chemical tasting formulas.
And now we laugh and guffaw in schadenfreude.
In the future, everyone will be treated the way smokers are today.
Couldn’t happen to a more deserving bunch.
