Americas new First Lady Michelle Obama wowed the crowd election night with her red-and-black Narciso Rodriguez dress from the designers spring 2009 collection. She accessorized with a black cardigan, kitten heels, diamond bangles and earrings.

No. She looks like a wildabeast.
Next question.
Mrs. Messiah needs a SERIOUS Tim Gunn intervention.
She’s making the classic mistake of trying to dress too young and hip for her age and has at best a mediocre figure.
She’s one BIG WOMAN with junk in the trunk and that dress makes her look like a pro-wrestler. Honestly, she looks like a hulking WNBA moose standing next to her skinny husband.
Hey, even Hillary! learned to cover up those oversized traffic cone legs and started wearing pantsuits that camouflage her flaws. LOLOLOL
No...Sarah is the new Jackie O.
I’m so upset we don’t get to see her for the enxt 4 years and instead we have to look at that slouch and her tribal wear.
*sighs*
Frankly, I don’t even think the MODEL looks good in that HIDEOUS dress. It really is a black widow costume.
Maybe this was a symbol to the American people that if Barack doesn’t do as she wishes in office, Michelle will eat him alive?
Michelle is a large pear-shaped woman with a flat chest and big hips/thighs. There are many other flattering styles/colors she could have worn.
Again, Michelle needs a “What Not to Wear” AND a Tim Gunn intervention. :0)
I don’t think so. I think she wanted communist red, along with a slimming black. That middle section was supposed to give her a waste and slim her bottom. The gussett was supposed to slim her as well.
It didn’t work. I can’t help but wonder if she even looked in the mirror before she clomped out onto the stage in that getup.
LOL
Fixed....
96% not. Good work.
No, we don’t. We’ve seen enough.
Ungh....
Maybe their dad?
Or perhaps it's recessive genes.
Michelle Obama, who I think is a very pretty woman, looked horrible in that dress.
Just trying to point out the sexism, metmom....it applies to all women - even those we don’t agree with.
I know......
I really do understand.
garish, loud, and inappropriate ... so is the dress ...
She walked out and the dress was so shockingly bad looking, I said immediately, “That’s how she wants to be remembered for all time?” Her choice. She liked it and that’s all that matters I suppose.
They name the designer and show the display model. It’s been heavily altered. Side panels were added to the skirt to make it fit and still hang correctly. The neckline was raised, the entire bodice was reworked and we can’t tell about the straps because of the little jacket she is wearing. If the designer did similar back treatments as seen in the back of the white number from the catwalk shot, that could be the reason for the clumsy little jacket addition. Probably when they raised the neckline, the red above the waist fell below her bust, so that was modified to the large red area on the chest.
No way this was off the rack. It is a custom rendition of the runway model. This is common when the wealthy, but un-model-like consumer demands a certain dress be altered for her.
I saw the video from election night and the cameraman panned across her very quickly. I though it looked ugly and odd then. This is the first real look I have had at it and it is even worse than my first impression. I don’t even like the original on the model.
I was raised in ready-to-wear, my mother designed and sold her own ready-to-wear line and I had my own line of handmade woven clothing back in the 80s. Had I ever designed something as awkward as that dress, I would not allow it to be altered to fit someone Michelle’s size. The proportions are gone in the alterations. I would have told the customer the piece was only available in sizes 0-2.
She looks best in the cool side of the spectrum, IMO, and long, flowy skirts or long full pants for evening. Too often, her straight skirts cup under her butt and she looks like she doesn’t wear slips. She has very toned biceps and adding layers over the shoulders makes her look like a wrestler. Her stockings are the wrong shade and the lights caught them and made her bow legs and pigeon toes stand out.
Someone has to have caught this faux pas. I expect they will get her a total makeover quickly.
OMG! Separated at birth?!
Michelle in that dress? Not hot.
Since she’s tall, she probably could look really nice if someone helped her pick out clothes that worked for her. Perhaps she needs some dance lessons to learn how to move and stand.
Probably an extreme make-over in her future. How much will it cost? Who will pay the bill? Just wondering ...
