That is true...Carter, the “nukular” engineer, DOES pronounce it that way. It’s really a colloquialism, sort of like the way some people pronounce “wash” as “warsh”. But I could swear that I heard Palin pronounce “nuclear” correctly.

Of course Carter was padding his resume when he claimed to be a "nuclear engineer." But he had yet a
third pronunciation in the second Reagan debate, when he told the audience his daughter Amy was afraid of "nookie-er" weapons.
Maybe that was Freudian.

I pronounce the word drawer as “draw.” My cousins in the Philadelphia like to drink “werter.” Most normal people have something of a regional accent, even if they come from a cookie cutter generic hell like Irvine. ;-)
